Gertrude killed off her assistants to stop rituals that wouldn't have worked to begin with. Jon saved his assistants in a world that was going to be doomed anyway. both of their efforts were well-meaning but ultimately futile. rip to everyone who died via Archivist, you could have lived and the world would have continued turning
