Yesterday’s walk. 5 miles It was snowing and hailing most of the way there and a huge hail ball hit the brim of my hat. It was fun (not sarcastic)! (at Council Crest Park) https://www.instagram.com/p/CqQh7eLrpAR/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Spring is here. This is from Monday’s walk. Also, it’s snowing right now so there’s that. (at Portland, Oregon) https://www.instagram.com/p/CqLi-a2vJ9p/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
365 practices in 365 days for both guitar and piano. I’m still not very good at either instrument but this is the most consistency I’ve ever mustered. And it feels freaking good. (at Portland, Oregon) https://www.instagram.com/p/CNoe6S9BM5e/?igshid=1uwdusz2qcc5v
And with the blink of an eye, it’s time to go. Orcas Island goes back to being this mystical place I once lived a long time ago, perhaps only in my imagination. At least until next time. (at Orcas Island Ferry Landing) https://www.instagram.com/p/CNfSz94hua4/?igshid=1b5ndvvdi4ean

Today’s walk: Into Eastsound Out past Island Market and all along Crescent Beach Road Then up Terrill Beach Road and around to Mount Baker Road A long trek on Enchanted Forest Road, past the entrance to Camp Orkila (Darvill Farm Road) onto Cedar Hill Road All the way to where the road ends and then turned around and headed back to Kangaroo House. Help settle a bet. Which one was real and which one was a dream? -that I lived on Orcas for 6 years OR -the 12 years I’ve lived in Portland after. I really think it could go either way. (at Kangaroo House Bed and Breakfast) https://www.instagram.com/p/CNWAwxAhD61/?igshid=bya0y0vo36al

Well hello there Orcas Island, my old friend. It’s only been 8 years. PD: picture taken from the car deck of the ferry as it approaches the landing on Orcas. (at Orcas Island) https://www.instagram.com/p/CNTf7VLBqfU/?igshid=1rkkc9fku73vk

Went to the gym for the first time in over a year. It felt great...until I got home and realized I had my workout tank top on inside out the whole time. Oooops. I have forgotten how to be a person out and about. (at OHSU march wellness & fitness center) https://www.instagram.com/p/CL5aLvTBUAk/?igshid=1tckgpt7h92sk
Just finished this book, my fifth this year (others were Just Mercy, Furious Hours, The Removed, and Anxious People). I couldn’t put this book down. Great mix of scrappy teen detective, murder mystery, family story all interwoven with race and the criminal justice system in a way that makes you feel it in a visceral way through the eyes of the main character, Tracy Beaumont. Highly recommend! Also, I was wrong about whodunnit and that doesn’t happen so often (I’ve prob read too many mysteries in my life) so was pleasantly surprised to be wrong. Finished my first book of the year, Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson. Just Mercy looks at criminal justice by focusing on death row cases, specifically the wrongful conviction of Walter McMillian, and on children sentenced to life in prison without parole. There’s a lot of discussion of race, poverty, mistreatment, and miscarriages of justice. It’s all told through the author’s experiences as a lawyer for the Equal Justice Initiative. I loved this book. It hit my sweet spot of true crime which is explorations of justice and injustice, and the writing, the tone, was so compassionate and impassioned and also humble in a way that didn’t feel put on. Highly recommend! . . . #justmercy #bryanstevenson #equaljusticeinitiative #innocenceproject #wrongfulconviction #criminaljustice #memoir #memoirs #reading #2021readinggoals #readersofinstagram #read21in21 (at Portland, Oregon) https://www.instagram.com/p/CJ46XhjBZOT/?igshid=5fweer5o459j

Crappy picture but first covid vax dose done! Getting my vaccine gave me all the feels about the awesomeness that is science. And very grateful to be included (especially as a student on leave of absence). (at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU)) https://www.instagram.com/p/CJjfutqhF6b/?igshid=iig7t44q1zgb
First book of the year is underway! This is Furious Hours by Casey Cep, a nonfiction book about a murder trial in Alabama that Harper Lee attended and tried to write a book about. I heard of this book through the @crimewriterson book club on their Patreon, Toby Ball’s Deep Dive Book Club. In the episode where Toby and his guests discuss #badblood - the #johncarreyrou book about the #elizabethholmes and #theranos fraud (one of my favorite episodes of the deep dive book club) - someone recommended this book and I was intrigued. Two hours into the audiobook and enjoying it so far! . . . #audiobooks #reading #2021readinggoals #truecrime #truecrimebooks #harperlee #caseycep (at Portland, Oregon) https://www.instagram.com/p/CJg563LBGld/?igshid=e1ghv8md13l6
