the retrocession or worsening of social conditions is never a straight line and it would be reductive to position any one particular group or issue to be the "first one to fall". the attacks on entire social groups are never single strikes either, quantitative into qualitative etc. you need to look at trends, conditions, internal movements, not a kind of lighthouse that can cut through the idealist fog of taking the whole to be the mere sum of its parts
"Dogwhistles" are called that based on real "dog whistles", many of which are pitched too high to be audible to most humans, but are still perfectly audible to dogs.
Rhetorical dogwhistles are things that most people would not be able to identify as bigoted because they're INTENDED to have plausible deniability.
The wording changes are meant to be subtle enough that people really can mix them up accidentally when they don't have much information!
So when the gender critical movement calls trans women "transwomen", they're hoping for 2 things.
this usage will spread enough among people who don't know any better, to give transphobes the plausible deniability of not LOOKING like a frothing bigot constantly.
the usage grammatically places trans women in a different category than other women; it's changing "trans" from an adjective to part of a noun to make this distinction.
The more we can avoid this usage, the less deniability have transmisogynists have when using it, and the less rhetorical ground we cede to the degendering and misgendering of trans women.
I don't actually think ceding this ground is LESS divisive than pointing it out politely.

it's so maddening that helpful services for my disabilities "exist" yet anytime i try to access one i don't qualify, it's not in my area, it's not accessible, insurance doesn't cover it, there's rules i can't meet, etc. who is this even for
sometimes being a hater will make you feel like you're an intellectual and probably a secret genius because of how much other people around you are visibly not being a hater about the exact same things. maybe even later your haterism becomes justified and the tide of culture and conception shifts and you think see? see? I continuously outscale my peers in the brains department. but you have to understand that being a hater is often a deliriant. it makes you feel smart on occasion in the same way huffing glue may make you think you're god. there's a fine balance here we must all take into account
there's a trope i see a lot, usually in our soap dramas but i wouldn't be surprised if it were international too, where there's always a beautiful and intelligent but evil woman and a simple, pure-hearted man falls in love with her and she gets with him but only to further her Evil Schemes and breaks his heart and the audience is supposed to really sympathize with the guy but it always makes me laugh because. his pure-hearted "love" for her is always just admiring her beauty from afar and building a fantasy in his head where she is his angel who would never hurt a fly instead of talking with her and actually getting to know a single thing about her and i'm just like... my guy... you did this to yourself. wow i can't believe the woman you never bothered to know turned out to be not who you thought she was. i can't believe she's after your money/connections/ingredients for her Evil Concoctions/whatever the misogynist writing room thinks women are after and not because she loves you as a person, all while you, the poor fool, loved her for who she was. and by who she was i mean her huge boobs. how could you be betrayed like this.
people like the idea that there is an identity they can claim that will absolve them of the responsibility to examine their beliefs and actions and adjust them accordingly to better align with their values and desired outcomes but there isn't, we all have to practice humility and do the work regardless

something i find fascinating is the imagery of looking in the mirror and seeing the true self because like. i have personally found that mirrors serve the exact opposite purpose? the mirror shows the crushing reality of the physical body. the mirror shows what is visually there. the true self exists in the nebulous idea of the body, in how it looks when it is not seen. the mirror serves as a sober reminder that the way i am perceived by the outside is not how i perceive myself.

I feel like advertising is probably the funniest place anyone can choose to predicate their moral arguments against AI on the basis of environmental impact because like. The advertising industry is already probably the most wasteful i dustry in terms of environmental costs vs. actual value it provides, to the point that adding AI to it amounts to a very small drop in the world's biggest bucket. Like.
"Using AI to design flyers looks cheap and tacky" đ I completely agree.
"Using AI to design flyers is bad for the environment" I can tell you with 100% absolute certainty that the environmental impact of printing hundreds of paper flyers which will be looked at exactly once and then thrown in the garbage is like. Several orders of magnitude bigger than the environmental impact of generating the picture that will go on said flyers.
Like I find it hard to think of a position that more succinctly communicates "I never think about where anything comes from or how it's produced or how it's disposed of or the environmental costs of any steps in that process unless there's some sort of moral panic telling me to be concerned about it" than thinking that the "AI" part of "ads made with AI" is the part that's bad for the environment.
If you apply aloe vera gel to sunburns, they may go away more quickly.
Which is rather remarkable, if you think about it, because normally nothing in this world has any consequence.
