Christopher Rodriguez Barake is a multidisciplinary artist and independent curator based in Miami, FL. He explores urban spaces and the effects of globalization in relation to culture, places, architecture, history, and identity. His creative process involves interaction with different cultures through travel and transnational collaborations; with resulting works in painting, sculpture, digital fabrication, and digital media. He has an extensive career of curating, and coordinating participatory art projects. For nearly a decade, he has worked in partnership with artists from all across Brazil, and in 2014 launched Projeto Suzano: Arte Faz a Diferença, a project he co-created with Suzano artist Policarpo Ribeiro. Projeto Suzano: Arte Faz a Diferença, connected cultural ambassadors from Suzano with over two-thousand South Florida residents through exhibitions, performances, and intergenerational participatory arts workshops. Rodriguez Barake works for the College of Architecture + The Arts at Florida International University (FIU), where he is tasked with cultivating strategic partnerships and developing distance learning initiatives. His previous duties at FIU, where to oversee the artist-in-residency program, coordinate community-based collaboratory art projects, and the administration of Graham Center Art Gallery. He is in the process of completing his Master of Fine Arts in Curatorial Practice at FIU; his research investigates Metamodernism; highlighting the rise of New Romanticism and the Sublime.
