The project Applause - (42 minutes) was presented in the main corridor of the World Trade Center in Montreal during the Art Souterrain 2011 event. The videography was presented on a screen placed in front of a mirror. Placed on opposite sides of a corridor, the mirror was mirrored with the visual content of the screen facing it. The videography featured 42 guests of the Old Mission Brewery clapping for a minute right in front of the camera. Each of them was paid $5 to clap, which is roughly the equivalent of my fee in its entirety. In the editing process, this 42-minute silent videography was divided into 2-second intervals, which were then placed in chronological order. To accompany this modulatory rhythm, to compare the sensory experiences of the image to its reading, I placed subtitles, like quotations, of carefully chosen extracts from Marx.

Marginalization is a delicate issue. The circumstances leading to periods of exclusion are numerous. They are difficult to access and complex to represent. And sometimes remain confusing for the people concerned. These events remain painful to remember. For the participants, recounting the circumstances of an unforeseen situation requires admirable moral strength. The concepts of the practice of "care" appear as concrete tools. They serve to develop complementary skills for the realization of such a project.
