LOVE ON YOUR SKIN,CHOOSE ORGANIC.
When we use organic skin care products, we are using products that work in sync with our bodies natural healing ability. Choosing this route means less exposure to chemicals. Many of the skin care products we pick up off a store shelf contain endocrine-disrupting chemicals and to put it plainly, we need our endocrine system.
Endocrine systems, also referred to as hormone systems, are found in all mammals, birds, fish, and many other types of living organisms.
Let's discuss some of the most common yet dangerous chemicals you'll find on the ingredients list of many commercial brands. They could be recking havoc on your body.
1. Phthalates
Phthalates can cause developmental, reproductive and neurological damage. They are often hidden under the word "fragrance" and companies don't have to disclose what's in their products because this is considered "trade secrets".
2. Parabens, Octinoxate, & Siloxanes
Many of us have heard of Parabens, but do we truly know what they are and how often we come in contact with them?
Parabens are a group of chemicals widely used as artificial preservatives in cosmetic and body care products since the 1920s. Scientific studies suggest that parabens can disrupt hormones in the body and harm fertility and reproductive organs, affect birth outcomes, and increase the risk of cancer.

Octinoxate, also called Octyl methoxycinnamate or OMC. This chemical can be absorbed by our skin quickly. It's often found in human urine, blood and breast milk, which indicates that we are exposed to it often. Octinoxate is an endocrine disruptor that mimics estrogen and can disrupt thyroid function among other things. It's often found in hair color products, shampoos, lipstick, nail polish and skin creams.
Siloxanes can cause reproductive issues, liver problems, benign uterine tumors, uterine cancers, adverse reproductive affects, adverse neurological effects, immunity issues and endocrine disruption.
3. Formaldehyde
Formaldehyde is a respiratory irritant most commonly found in lotions, shampoos and many cosmetics. It is linked to cancer and asthma in children.
4. p-Phenylenediamine
This ingredient is a respiratory toxicant. Its normally disguised by the letters CL, followed by a five-digit number. It's found in permanent hair dyes. This chemical is associated with asthma, gastritis, renal failure, vertigo, tremors, convulsions, and coma in humans.
5. BHT & BHA
These compounds are endocrine disruptors. They can cause skin allergies, reproductive harm, organ and developmental toxicity. They are commonly found in almost all cosmetics, including diaper creams as a preservative.
In summary, many of the products we use regularly aren't good for our bodies. We gravitate toward many of them because of how often they're advertised by people who look like us or because of who's advertising it. But is it really good for you? Take a closer look at the ingredient list.
