WTF are those obelisks on the right?âŚ
Tasty obelisk fries..
âItâs digestibleâ has got to be the laziest goal Iâve ever seen achieved by a food product.
âItâs digestibleâ
âItâs digestibleâ is pertinent!! Okay, for those of you who havenât researched Crisco for writing fic about gay sex in the mid-late 60s:
The first-edition of The Joy of Gay Sex, published in 1977, declared, âVegetable shortening may be the best lubricant, since it is not only greasy but also digestibleâ[4] Such a statement perhaps gives new meaning to the companies boastful declarations that âIts digestibleâ and âCrisco has been making life in the kitchen more delicious for years.â Similarly, in the 1978 sex manual The Advocate Guide to Gay Health, Crisco even earned an entry in the bookâs index. Discussions of the shorteningâs use as an anal lubricant indicate its popularity, with statements such as: âThe lubricant, typically the cultic Crisco, must be copious.â[5] In fact, Crisco was so synonomus with gay sex that discos and bars around the world took on the name, such as Crisco Disco in New York City, which was one of the premiere clubs during the 1970s and early 1980s. Other clubs or bathhouses, such as Club Z in Seattle, even featured murals with Crisco. Thus, Crisco was conversely also one of many things that led to the formation of gay identities during the 20th century.

The more you know! :D
I have learned a new thing today.
Love this post for so many reasons but most especially because this is from all the way back in 2012 and and yet not a single blog in this thread is deactivated
I enjoy that not only does this have a link to an actual source, but the link still fucking works.
but @rhea314 you didnt include a picture of the crisco disco! AND MY GOD THE DJ BOOTH WAS A GIANT CRISCO CAN!
Go dance and get fisted. Fucking iconic.
Love the gay history, but i just wanna correct that the âitâs digestibleâ in the gay stuff was a reference to criscoâs tagline it had been using since 1911, the actual meaning of its digestible is because itâs main competition came from âenhancedâ lards which were rendered pig fat mixed with non food thickeners that literally did not digest and caused people to basically just shit out pig cream, since crisco was veggie based the body digested it along with the food
And in case you were still wondering, @mudwerks.. Tuna Croquettes
This post is the opposite of net zero information. Not only did I learn several new facts about gay history but also we rounded our way back to the original question of the tag line and the mini obelisks.
Itâs a net profit of information. 12/10 post

wait you're nonbinary?? are you afab or amab- sorry, transmasc or transfem?? ....oh you're neither?? okay, are you tma (harmless and innocent and 'one of the good ones') or tme (annoying and therefore evil)?? these ones arent gender-based, so they're better- oh you dont like the new boxes we came up with because they still slot you into a gender binary? okay youre an icky evil tme then, because you dont like them. die.
what is this genre of photos called
[image description: 11 photos of various cats trying their hardest to steal a bite of human foods, while their humans hold them back by grabbing their heads, causing them to have funny stretched faces and bug eyes.]
all movies are for children because the moving image is inherently juvenile. to be entertained by it even moreso
Random tumblr blog roleplays as a philosopher. Shocks the masses by using big words just to say they think theyre better than you because you watch movies. WHHAAAAT?
thats right
the biggest word in this post is âentertainedâ
RYAN GOSLING "I'm Just Ken" wins Best Original Song at the 29th Annual Critics' Choice Awards (January 14, 2024)
ideas for discourse i came up with
having OCs is bourgeois
people who write erotica should be considered sex workers
only americans believe in aliens
it's misogynist to draw touhou characters with big boobs
the "godzilla" franchise is harmful because it teaches children that they should be afraid of lizards and other animals
feel free to argue about any of these, credit not needed but appreciated

Reblog and put in the tags your longest Duolingo streak.
Reblog and put in the tags your longest Duolingo streak.
I found it!
Reblog and put in the tags your longest Duolingo streak.
A great way to find vocab that's relevant to you is to read the wikipedia page for things you're already familiar with (your home city, a hobby, etc) in your target language â I'm on the Russian pages for my own home state and several neighbouring countries rn, and it's a lot more encouraging than a vocab list lemme tell you that much
LET DUOLINGO DIE (BRING BACK TEXTBOOKS)
I know Duolingo is fun, and I'm not saying it can't be useful for casual study. But it should come as a surprise to no one that Duolingo is far from perfect, and definitely not best way to learn a language.
If you're one of the many who are looking to ditch the app, I'd love to recommend a tried-and-true alternative: THE TEXTBOOK.
Switching out Duolingo for a textbook instantly solves pretty much every complaint I've seen people share about the app.
"I hate all of the advertisements on Duolingo!" Textbook.
"I hate Duolingo's stance on AI and their rampant use of it!" Textbook.
"I hate how Duolingo barely explains any grammar concepts to me!" Textbook.
"I hate that I can't control my own learning pace because Duolingo makes reviewing previous concepts a pain in the ass and pushes me forward even though I might not be ready to move on!" Textbook.
"I hate how I'm more invested in my streak than I am in actually learning a language!" Textbook.
I know it's not the most flashy or even fun option, but imho the owl app will never be as useful as a textbook.
With a textbook, there are no advertisements. There is no AI (yet). You control your own learning paceâyou can breeze through easy concepts and slow down on difficult topics. You don't have to shuffle around vaguely-worded lesson titles to find that one grammar concept you're trying to review. YOU HAVE IN-DEPTH GRAMMAR EXPLANATIONS THAT ACTUALLY MAKE SENSE.
With a textbook, you can actually learn a language.
The best part is that many language textbooks can be found for free online. For example, here's the Japanese GENKI Textbook available in its entirety on Internet Archive: https://archive.org/details/Genki/Genki%20-%20Elementary%20Japanese%20I/
I hope this post didn't come off as condescending. I'm just so sick and tired of watching my friends with 1,000+ day streaks stumble their way through basic sentences. I'm tired of seeing them waste so much time on a glorified vocab list while simultaneously complaining about every single aspect of the app.
please for the love of god can we just bring back textbooks

I think a language milestone that doesn't get talked about enough is being able to be funny in another language. Like you know you're making progress when you can start being sarcastic
I very much agree with these suggestions. Forcing myself to write was the way I could finally start to become an active rather than a passive user of the target language.
