soobin almost turned around twice. once while sitting at a red light that seemed to last longer than it actually did, fingers drumming absentmindedly against the steering wheel. the second time happened after he'd already parked outside the building, staring up at windows that all blurred together beneath the streetlights. it would've been easier to drive back to the dorm. easier in theory, anyway.
instead, he found himself climbing the stairs with his hands shoved deep into the pockets of his hoodie, shoulders drawn in against the evening air. the dorm had become unbearable. it wasn't loud. if anything, it was the opposite. every hallway seemed quieter than before, every familiar corner carrying memories he hadn't asked to revisit. little things had started getting to him. the empty side of conversations he'd grown used to having, catching himself reaching for his phone before remembering there wasn't anyone waiting for his messages anymore. staying there tonight had felt impossible. his knuckles lifted against the studio door in three quiet knocks. when it finally opened, soobin offered a smile that never quite reached his eyes.
"hey." his voice came out softer than intended. "hope i'm not bothering you." he lingered in the doorway for another second before letting out a small breath through his nose, one hand rubbing the back of his neck.
"i just..." he searched for words, only to give up halfway through the sentence with a tired laugh. "didn't really want to be at the dorm tonight." he looked past heeseung for only a moment, taking in the familiar sight of the modest studio beyond him. somehow it already felt quieter than the place he'd just escaped.
"thought maybe i could hide here for a bit. mind if i come in?" he tried to joke about it, but the smile faded almost as quickly as it'd appeared, replaced by an exhaustion that had settled into him over the past few weeks. he wasn't crying, wasn't falling apart, but there was something undeniably heavier about him now. he waited patiently at the doorway, letting heeseung decide whether to let him in rather than assuming the invitation.

summary: soobin sits alone in the quiet dorm after his breakup with felix, finally allowing himself to process everything they've lost. as he reflects on the future he'd quietly imagined with him, marriage, children, and a life together, he can't help but wonder where things went wrong. with no betrayal or single moment to blame, he's left questioning whether they simply drifted apart, or if his quiet, patient way of loving wasn't enough. in the end, soobin realizes he's mourning not only the relationship, but the future he'd already started calling home.
there wasn't a specific moment that made it feel real. not the conversation. not the silence that followed it. not even the way his phone had stopped lighting up with little messages throughout the day. it was the little things. the instinct to reach for his phone whenever something reminded him of those blonde locks, only for his hand to stop halfway there. opening a grocery app and realizing he was still mentally adding snacks he knew felix liked despite never actually living together. catching himself wondering if felix had eaten yet before remembering that it wasn't something he got to ask anymore. those moments hurt more than the breakup itself because those were habits.
those were pieces of a future he'd already started building without realizing it. he sat on the edge of his bed, elbows resting against his knees as his dorm remained impossibly quiet around him. he'd always liked quiet. rare occurrence in his dorm when he lived with such loud personalities. yeonjun was out promoting his newest release. who knew where beomgyu was, and kai had convinced taehyun to go out. forcing soobin to get consumed by the emptiness in his dorm. left alone with nothing but his memories.
he'd spent almost two years learning someone. learning what made felix laugh, what songs he'd quietly hum without noticing, the foods he'd reach for first whenever they ordered too much takeout. he remembered conversations that stretched well past midnight, careless ones about nothing at all before somehow turning into discussions about apartments they might like one day.
little comments thrown into the air without either of them realizing they were planting roots. there had been vacations they wanted to take. birthdays they'd casually planned months ahead. children that soobin often mentioned. the talk of marriage. soobin pauses, eyes lost on the floor with the realization of; they never moved in together.
but soobin had. just not physically. he'd moved him into his future so quietly that he couldn't pinpoint when it happened. the first few nights they spent together. how easily soobin lost himself in that comfort. how fast they moved without reading too much into it. now every version of tomorrow he'd imagined had disappeared all at once. he wished he knew when things started changing.
he replayed every conversation because that's what his mind insisted on doing. should he have texted more? should he have called first instead of waiting? should he have noticed sooner?
he'd always believed that people deserved to speak when they were ready. he'd never wanted to force words out of someone who wasn't prepared to give them. whenever felix seemed quieter, soobin had simply stayed nearby. available. patient. he thought patience was love, and maybe it was. or maybe patience looked too much like absence from the other side.
maybe felix had needed questions. needed someone to insist. needed someone to notice that "i'm okay" wasn't really okay. soobin didn't know how to ask. and that uncertainty burrowed beneath his ribs worse than any answer could have because if he'd done something wrong, then perhaps he could have learned from it.
how much easier the breakup could have gone if someone had cheated, if someone had lied, if there'd been one catastrophic mistake. at least heartbreak would've had a shape. instead it was just fog. impossible to fight. he kept wondering whether relationships simply expired sometimes. whether love could exist while two people slowly grew in directions neither of them intended.
how could something be so good for so long only to become something neither person could save? or maybe felix had tried. maybe he'd been trying long before soobin realized there was anything to fix. that thought settled heavily in his chest. because if that was true, then he'd missed it. he wasn't someone who demanded attention. he wasn't loud when he loved. he showed up. he remembered little things. he waited. he listened. he gave people space because he'd always believed space was kindness. now he couldn't stop wondering if he'd left too much of it between them.
his eyes drifted toward the empty chair near his desk. he imagined felix sitting there, legs tucked up beneath himself while talking about his day. the image came so naturally that for half a second he almost smiled. then reality caught up. the chair stayed empty. the dorm remained quiet. there was a strange kind of grief in realizing someone was still alive somewhere in the same city. still existing just without you.
soobin leaned back until his back hit the bed and closed his eyes. for the first time tonight, he allowed himself to mourn not just the person he'd lost, but the future he'd already started calling home.
Ni-ki offered a small, reassuring nod when Soobin snapped about not posting the photo. Truthfully, he was never going to actually expose his name or face, the plan was always to keep it completely anonymous, but the nod was enough to let the older boy think he’d won that battle. Instead, he mentally decided he’d just find a random, grainy snack picture online later to use for the bit on his spam account. "Honestly, I don't even think three cans would even cut it. It’s crazy," he added, replying to the comment about needing two energy drinks.
The younger reached out for the banana milk, a quiet giggle escaping him as Soobin’s dramatic offense finally crumbled. "I am a growing boy, hyung," he replied. "You're just doing your civic duty." He took a long, satisfied sip of the sweet milk, the contrast of the dairy right after a bitter energy drink probably being an objective crime against his stomach, but he was too tired to care. "And twenty-four is ancient," Ni-ki doubled down, leaning his head back against the sofa cushions with a lazy, provocative smirk. He didn't even flinch at the pregnant idol callback, his eyes tracking the crunch of Soobin's turtle chips. "By the time I'm twenty-four, my knees are going to belong in a museum. You're basically a historical artifact at this point, Soobin-hyung. You should be sitting in a rocking chair, not dancing to Deja Vu."
soobin stared at him longer than necessary. a choco turtle chip hovered halfway to his mouth as he processed every word that had just come out of niki's mouth. "historical artifact?" the chip lowered when he repeated the next word, in complete disbelief. "museum?"
his voice rose another octave. for someone who'd spent the last several minutes acting exhausted, niki seemed remarkably energetic when it came to personally attacking him. the realization made soobin point the chip directly at him.
"i need you to understand something," his expression remained completely serious though his tone had a hint of playfulness. "twenty-four is not old. it's barely an adult."
the chip disappeared into his mouth with a crunch. "this kid." his eyes followed the banana milk in niki's hand. "also, that's my banana milk," the accusation came much too late. "you took one sip and suddenly forgot who paid for it. show some respect."
there wasn't any real irritation behind the words. if anything, the sight of niki looking marginally more alive than he had ten minutes ago made the sacrifice feel worth it. even if he'd never admit that out loud. he ate another handful of chips, then his gaze drifted back toward the younger idol.
"seriously, though," his tone softened slightly. "have you guys been preparing for something? cause four hours on three seconds sounds like somebody's planning to make your lives miserable for a comeback."

Lix: did I leave my switch at your place? I can’t find it anywhere
@choissoovins
bin: i'll have to ask gyu cause i don't see it anywhere. bin: where did you last leave it?
The sound of her nickname is enough to make Eunchae look up almost immediately, her expression brightening the second she recognizes him.
"Papa-nim!"
She quickens her pace the last couple of steps, stopping in front of him with an exaggerated pout. "I've not been hiding." The denial comes far too quickly to sound convincing. "You've just been... busy." A tiny shrug follows, one shoulder lifting as if that alone explains why she'd kept her distance instead of interrupting him between schedules.
Her eyes drift to the iced americano in his hand before returning to his face. "...You look tired. Like... really tired." The concern slips out naturally, replacing the teasing tone for a moment. She studies him for another second before her expression softens into a grin again, clearly deciding not to dwell on it. At the mention of tteokbokki, her eyes light up almost instantly. "...Really?" she asks, trying, and failing to sound casual. "You're buying?"
A quiet laugh escapes her as she clasps her hands behind her back, rocking lightly on her heels. "I can definitely make time for free food." She tilts her head, smiling up at him.
the nickname earned an immediate groan. "please don't call me that in public," despite the complaint, the corner of his mouth twitched upward as he shook his head. "people are going to start asking questions."
which, admittedly, wasn't entirely true. most people around the building had probably heard worse. still, he felt obligated to protest every single time. her accusation earned a look.
"me?" he echoed, pointing at himself with the hand holding his coffee. "that's interesting, because i'm pretty sure phones work both ways." his eyebrows lifted slightly. "last time i checked, anyway." the argument immediately lost momentum when she pointed out how tired he looked. soobin's shoulders slumped a fraction.
"wow," he sounded almost offended. "did the dark circles give it away?"
between the faint shadows beneath his eyes and the way he was practically carrying himself through the day on caffeine alone, it was probably obvious to anyone who knew him. thankfully, the mention of food seemed to distract both of them.
"aish, of course i'm buying." he stared at her for a second as they walked towards the front of the building. "why do you sound surprised?"
just you and me ✨
Ni-ki reached into the pocket of his oversized hoodie and fished out his phone before he held it up over the table, angling it just right to capture the chaotic spread of the unopened banana milk, the honey butter chips, and the packet of Pepero in a single, unedited frame. The lighting in the vending machine lounge was terrible, which made it absolutely perfect for what he had in mind. He snapped the picture with a quick tap of his thumb, already plotting the caption for his Instagram spam account later, something along the lines of exposing a male idol's intense pregnancy cravings on the fourth floor. Satisfied with the grainy masterpiece, he tossed the locked phone onto the cushion beside him. As the silence settled, the lingering tease in his expression faded into a quiet, honest exhaustion. He took another long drag of his energy drink, letting the icy artificial sweetness shock his brain before lowering the can. "You have no idea, hyung," he spoke. "We've been drilling the same three seconds of choreo for four hours."
He looked down at the bright label of the can when Soobin gave his senior advice about switching to coffee, warning him about the toll the artificial caffeine took on the body. He scoffed softly, a playful glint returning to his eyes as he looked back up at the leader. "Coffee tastes like burnt dirt," he said flatly, giving a completely serious, deadpan look before shrugging. "Besides, I'm twenty, hyung. My body is basically indestructible right now. I'll worry about my health when I'm ancient... like, twenty-four." He leaned forward slightly, resting his elbows on his knees, and nodded toward the unopened banana milk on Soobin's side of the table. "But seriously," Ni-ki joked, his voice dropping into a low, amused undertone. "Hand over the banana milk and no one has to find out hybe's hiring a pregnant idol."
the sound of a camera shutter immediately made soobin suspicious. his eyes narrowed. "what did you just do?" the question came out at the exact same time ni-ki tossed his phone onto the cushion beside him. which answered absolutely nothing. if anything, it made him more suspicious. "don't post that."
their mandatory diet held fresh in his head. managers and higher ups would chew his ear off as soobin was supposed to maintain a certain goal. none of these items were on the approval list. thankfully, ni-ki's attention drifted elsewhere, and so did soobin's. the diet was quickly forgotten, replaced by what the younger idol had actually said.
the demanding three seconds of choreography. immediately, he understood. a sympathetic grimace crossed his features. "ah," that explained everything. "i would've needed two of those." he nodded toward the energy drink.
the comment was light, but there was an understanding behind it. every idol knew that kind of practice. the kind where the same movement stopped feeling like a dance and started feeling like psychological warfare.
then came the comment about age. "twenty-four?" his voice rose slightly. "do you know how old i am?" the answer was obvious, which somehow made it worse. he shook his head, looking personally offended.
"pregnant idol my ass." his posture straightened, looking personally offended by the entire conversation. unfortunately, the offense lasted all of three seconds. with a dramatic sigh, he gathered the banana milk and held it out across the table. "here you go, big baby." his teasing voice lands as sarcasm then opens a bag of choco turtle chips for himself.
HELLOO?!?!?!?!

soobin wasn't entirely sure what schedule number he was currently on. somewhere between rehearsals, meetings, filming, and the handful of conversations he'd already forgotten, the hours had blended together into one long stretch of fluorescent lighting and cold coffee.
which was exactly how he found himself wandering through the quieter floors of the hybe building with an iced americano in hand that had long since stopped doing its job. he rounded a corner before spotting a familiar figure further down the hallway.
"chae-yah!" a small smile tugged at his lips as he approached, slowing to a stop nearby.
"hiding from me lately?" the joke came easily despite the exhaustion sitting behind it. he took another sip of his drink before glancing down the hall. "are you busy right now?"
he tilted his head slightly. "want to check if that tteokbokki stand is still here? my treat."
@lemanchae
Ni-ki walked into the lounge, looking completely drained from practice, the kind of deep, bone-weary exhaustion that came from drilling the same choreo for four hours straight. His hair was slightly damp, clinging to his forehead, as he loosely held an empty energy drink can, tracing the metal tab with his thumb. He’d originally just come down to find a recycling bin and maybe stare blankly at a selection of sodas for five minutes to delay the inevitable next encounter with his vocal coach. He was completely out of it, operating on pure autopilot as he drifted toward the bin, tossing the empty can inside with a dull clink. Without really looking around the room, his eyes glazed over as he focused on the vending machine, punching in the buttons for yet another energy drink. The machine groaned, dropping the cold can into the slot.
Niki
The sudden sound of Soobin’s voice cut through the dead quiet. Ni-ki flinched, his shoulders jerking violently as his brain was forcibly dragged back to reality. He hadn't noticed a single thing around him. Blinking rapidly, his sharp eyes finally focused, registering the older idol standing just a few feet away by the table. "Soobin-hyung," he said, his polished idol manners kicking in just fast enough for him to offer a quick, respectful bow. He shook his head slightly, a small smile tugging at his lips. "No, I'm not busy. I've got a little time before my next lesson."
Walking over to the seating area, he hooked the toe of his sneaker under the edge of a small sofa, dragging it back with a loud, metallic scrape against the linoleum. He slid onto the cushions directly opposite the TXT leader, immediately sinking into the fabric. Taking a slow sip of his fresh drink, he let his brain slowly boot up. His gaze drifted from Soobin down to the erratic spread of snacks cluttering the tabletop, the honey butter chips, the banana milk, and the packet of Pepero. The tired haze in his eyes vanished, replaced by a sudden, cheeky glint. He lifted his energy drink, pointing the top of the can directly at the pile of junk food. "What's with the feast, hyung?" he asked, raising an eyebrow with a deadpan, teasing smirk. "Are you having pregnancy cravings or something?"
his eyes widened at the pregnancy accusation. "what?" a cough escaped him.
his gaze dropped toward the table. only then did he realize how ridiculous the collection looked. banana milk, chips, pepero. all purchased within the span of roughly thirty seconds.
"okay. point taken" his dimples quickly showing as his smile spreads. "but in my defense, i skipped breakfast."
a bad habit whenever he had a packed schedule for the day. he found it easier to eat at the company rather than make an attempt to cook anything. that kitchen went untouched since no one in his group could manage to cook anything without burning the dorm down.
across from him, ni-ki looked exactly as exhausted as he'd first appeared. now that he wasn't debating whether he should have left him alone instead of approaching the younger idol. the damp hair and the energy drink alone were a clear indicator of how his day went.
soobin's expression softened. "long day?" his eyes drifted toward the can in ni-ki's hand before lifting back to his face. soobin had been in this idol game for far too long, and he wished he could offer some comforting words of 'it'll get easier' but that would be a lie. "i'd switch to coffee if i were you. those things wear your body faster the older you get."
breaks were dangerous. not because they were rare, but because once soobin sat down, there was a very real possibility he wouldn't want to get back up.
the vending machine lounge on his floor wasn't particularly exciting. a handful of tables. a coffee machine that sounded like it was fighting for its life every time someone used it. vending machines lined against the wall stocked with the usual assortment of drinks, chips, gummies, and instant snacks.
it was quiet.
which was exactly why he'd come here. a bag of honey butter chips rested on the table beside him. an unopened banana milk sat in front of him. he'd also somehow ended up buying a packet of pepero despite not remembering putting it into the machine.
his schedule didn't start again for another hour. an hour. a beautiful amount of time. enough time to sit. enough time to do absolutely nothing. soobin leaned back in his chair and let out a small sigh. perfect, peaceful, exactly what he needed.
the lounge door opened. he didn't pay attention at first. people came and went all day. his gaze remained fixed on the vending machine across from him until movement in his peripheral vision caught his attention. a familiar figure. soobin looked ni-ki. immediately, a problem presented itself. he could stay exactly where he was, or, he could say hello.
which should not have required this much thought. yet somehow it did. his eyes drifted briefly toward the ceiling. because lately, every time he saw ni-ki, another person inevitably came to mind. eunchae. and maybe that was why he suddenly found himself curious.
he already knew ni-ki. knew he was hardworking. talented. they'd crossed paths enough over the years that speaking to him wasn't unusual. still, there was a difference between knowing someone and actually knowing them, and if certain observations over the past few months happened to be true. well. soobin figured it wouldn't hurt to get to know him a little better.
the problem was that doing so required standing up. which meant abandoning his very important plans of sitting here and accomplishing nothing. a difficult sacrifice. his gaze dropped to the banana milk. then toward ni-ki. back to the banana milk. then ni-ki again. another sigh escaped him. tragically, curiosity won. soobin grabbed his drink and rose from his chair before he could change his mind.
"niki" a small smile appeared as he approached. "want to come and sit with me?" his awkward side winning this short battle. "or are you busy?" @nikiminaj7
summary: soobin can’t stop overthinking his relationship with felix, stuck between giving him space and fearing that silence might push them apart. when yeonjun notices something is off, soobin opens up about how hard it’s been navigating felix avoiding serious conversations. it also brings up old wounds from the year soobin and yeonjun didn’t speak, shaping how soobin handles distance now. yeonjun grounds him, reminding him that trying this time already makes things different.
the dorm was too quiet. not uncomfortable quiet. just unfamiliar enough that it kept catching soobin off guard every few minutes. taehyun and kai had gone out earlier in the afternoon, beomgyu disappearing not long after with no real explanation beyond a vague “don’t wait up,” leaving the apartment strangely still.
the television played softly in the background, some random movie yeonjun had thrown on hours ago more for noise than actual interest. soobin hadn’t followed the plot once. he sat curled into the corner of the couch, fingers loosely wrapped around the remote while his attention drifted somewhere far beyond the screen. every few seconds, his thumb mindlessly pressed the volume button up and down without realizing it. yeonjun noticed after the fourth time.
“you planning on blowing the speakers out or what?”
soobin blinked, glancing down at the remote before quickly fixing the volume again. “sorry.”
yeonjun’s eyes narrowed slightly. he shifted where he sat, turning sideways against the couch cushions so he could look at him properly. “you okay?”
“mhm.”
“liar.”
soobin let out the faintest huff through his nose, though there wasn’t much humor behind it. “i’m fine.”
“you’ve looked stressed since dinner.”
“i always look stressed.”
“not like this.”
that made soobin glance over briefly before looking away again. yeonjun stayed quiet for a second, studying him carefully. they’d spent too many years around each other for things like this to go unnoticed anymore. soobin had tells whether he realized it or not. the restless fingers. the distant look in his eyes.
“did something happen?” yeonjun asked.
“no.”
“with the company?”
“no.”
“family?”
“no.”
yeonjun paused briefly before asking, quieter this time, “felix?”
soobin hesitated.
yeonjun sighed softly through his nose, leaning back against the couch. “you guys fighting?”
“no,” soobin answered quickly. too quickly. “we don’t really fight.”
“that’s not what i asked.”
the movie continued playing in the background, completely ignored now.
soobin rubbed tiredly at his face before speaking. “i just…” he trailed off, struggling to organize thoughts that had been running in circles for weeks now. “i don’t know how to talk to him lately.”
yeonjun’s expression softened slightly.
“what do you mean?”
“every time i try to bring something serious up, it feels like he slips out of the conversation before we actually get anywhere.” soobin’s voice stayed calm, but the exhaustion underneath it was obvious. “and i know he doesn’t mean to. i know it’s not intentional.”
“but?”
soobin stared down at his hands.
“but i don’t know if i’m supposed to keep trying or leave it alone.”
yeonjun frowned faintly.
“what kind of serious conversations?”
soobin shrugged one shoulder weakly. “relationship stuff.” his mouth pressed into a thin line afterward. “just things he says catch me off guard and i'll try and question him about it but-.”
yeonjun nodded slowly, listening. “he avoids it?”
“kind of.”
“have you told him that bothers you?”
“not directly.”
“why not?”
soobin went quiet again.
“bin.” yeonjun presses.
“because i don’t want him to feel cornered,” soobin admitted finally, voice quieter now. “and i know he already overthinks enough.”
he swallowed once before continuing.
“but at the same time…” his fingers tightened faintly around the remote. “i keep thinking about how easy it is for people to drift when nobody says anything.”
yeonjun stilled slightly.
soobin didn’t seem to notice at first, eyes fixed somewhere on the dark television screen instead.
“sometimes giving people space is good,” he murmured carefully. “and sometimes you blink and suddenly a year passed without fixing anything.”
the words landed softly. yeonjun’s jaw tightened almost imperceptibly. soobin realized it a second too late.
his expression shifted immediately, guilt flickering across his face. “hyung, i didn’t mean-”
“i know.”
yeonjun answered too fast for him to finish. quiet settled between them afterward.
soobin exhaled slowly, leaning back into the couch cushions. “i’m not trying to compare you two,” he said after a moment, softer this time. “it’s just…” he shook his head faintly. “when things got bad between us, i kept telling myself i was doing the right thing by waiting. by not pushing you.”
yeonjun looked down at his hands.
“and i still would’ve waited,” soobin admitted honestly. “even longer if i had to. but i think part of me is scared of making the same mistake again.”
that hurt more than if soobin had outright blamed him. because yeonjun knew exactly what that year had done to him. he remembered every ignored text. every quiet car ride. every moment soobin looked at him like he wanted to ask if he was okay but swallowed the question instead because yeonjun kept shutting every door before anyone could walk through it. yeonjun rubbed slowly at the back of his neck before finally speaking.
“felix isn’t you,” soobin said quickly, almost defensive on his behalf.
“i know.” yeonjun’s voice stayed calm. “and you’re not me either.”
soobin looked over then.
yeonjun sighed quietly before leaning forward, elbows resting on his knees.
“you know what the difference is?”
“what?”
“you’re actually trying.”
soobin frowned slightly.
yeonjun glanced at him properly now. “you’re thinking about him in every decision you make right now. whether to push, whether to back off, whether to wait.” his expression softened despite himself. “that’s not someone who’s failing their relationship, soobin.”
soobin looked away again, shoulders still tense.
“i just don’t want him thinking i’ll leave if he can’t figure himself out fast enough.”
“then tell him that.”
“it’s not that easy.”
“i didn’t say it was.”
another stretch of silence passed.
then, quieter now, yeonjun added, “for what it’s worth… i don’t think the problem back then was that you didn’t push me enough.”
soobin’s eyes flickered toward him again.
yeonjun gave a small humorless laugh through his nose. “i think i just got really good at making people feel like there was no point trying.”
the honesty in it made something in soobin’s expression soften immediately.
“hyung…”
“i mean it.” yeonjun shrugged lightly, though his gaze stayed fixed ahead. “you didn’t fail me just because i shut you out.”
soobin stared at him for a long moment before finally looking back down at his hands. the knot in his chest loosened slightly. tears formed but soobin didn't know if it was from the stress, his current dilemma, his past hurt with yeonjun. it all felt like too much in this moment that he allowed the first tear to drop, then the second, then another. until soobin was a sobbing mess. and beside him, yeonjun stayed there in the silence with him. his hand stretched and placed it over soobin's back, his hand going in small circles to remind soobin he wasn't alone.

“yeah,” he echoes softly, his hand resting firm and warm at soobin’s side. felix lets out a quiet breath as soobin settles into him, the slow, absent movement of his hand along his back grounding in a way that feels familiar again. when soobin mentions the milk bread, felix huffs a small, almost shy breath of a laugh against his hair, something lighter finally slipping through. “of course i did,” he murmurs. his fingers trace a slow line along soobin’s side, a quiet reassurance in the motion.
“i wanted to,” he adds, softer. it’s simple. uncomplicated. something he can give without overthinking it. he lets the moment sit there for a second, warm and settled, before soobin’s next question pulls his attention back. felix lifts his head slightly, glancing around the room as if the answer might just be sitting out in the open.
“your sleeping shirt?” his hand slides from soobin’s side as he leans back just enough to look properly, gaze flicking toward the dresser. “i did the wash last night,” he says after a second, voice thoughtful. “it’s in the top drawer. i put some sweats you left here in there too, but it’s cleared out for you to put whatever you want in there.”
felix’s gaze drops back to soobin, softer again, taking in the slight tension in his expression. his hand lingers for a second longer at soobin’s side, thumb brushing once more in that same slow, grounding way before he lets him go, giving him the space to move. “c’mon,” felix adds gently, nudging him just a little. “go get comfortable. i’ll get started on dinner.”
soobin nods lightly, taking that in. "top drawer, okay," he murmurs, voice soft as he steps away. his hand lingers for just a second at felix’s side before slipping away, fingers brushing once like it’s second nature. he moves toward the dresser, slower, quieter, but not heavy anymore. the drawer slides open, and he pauses for a second when he sees everything inside. his clothes, folded neatly, space made for him like it belongs there.
he reaches in, pulling out a shirt and the sweats, setting them on the bed before glancing back over his shoulder. the thought already circling his head when he meets felix's eyes. "we should probably talk about that at some point," he says, tone gentle. "like, actually getting a place together." he shrugs a little after, like he’s not trying to make it into something overwhelming. "not right now or anything," he adds quickly, softer. "just something we can figure out together?"
he turns back before it can become too big, tugging his shirt off and the sweats off after. "what were you making again?” he asks after a second, glancing back again as he grabs his sweats.
he slips one the sweats one leg at a time, his mind trying to remember what food felix mentioned earlier, running a hand briefly through his hair before looking back toward felix.
"do you need help?" soobin adjusts the waistline of his sweats "i mean, i don’t know how helpful i’ll actually be," he admits, a slight pull at his mouth. "but i can try. or just stand there and keep you company."
for a moment, he just looks at soobin. the tension from before is still there, faint around the edges, but it isn’t breaking anything. it isn’t pulling them apart. soobin is still close, still touching him like this, still searching his face instead of turning away. that’s the part that matters.
something in felix’s chest eases—not all the way, not enough to feel light, but enough to steady him. enough to remind him that they’re still here. that whatever this was, it didn’t take soobin from him. “i’m okay.” not because everything is settled, but because he knows what he needs to do now. where to guide this. how to bring them back to something that feels like them again.
he doesn’t leave the space open after that. doesn’t let the moment linger too long in that fragile place where it could tip back into something heavier. instead, he leans in just enough to press a light kiss to soobin’s temple, slow and deliberate, letting it sit there for a second before pulling back.
“i'm just glad we’re okay,” felix murmurs, quieter now. his hand slides a little higher along soobin’s side, settling there, keeping him close without holding too tight. like he’s anchoring them both in this version of things—the one where nothing is slipping, nothing is breaking, where they can just exist without overthinking it.
“come here,” he adds gently, though soobin already is. still, he draws him in a little closer, arms wrapping around him properly this time, more sure, more present. his chin dips to rest lightly against the top of soobin’s head, holding him there in a way that feels familiar, easy. and maybe that’s the point. "now, can i please make you dinner? i went to cheongdam and got that milk bread you like for dessert."
soobin's hand starts to move without much thought, slow and absent as it traces along felix’s back, up, then down again, fingers brushing lightly like he’s grounding himself in the feel of him. "yeah," he repeats "we’re okay."
felix’s words about dinner settle in a second later, and something in soobin softens even more. "you got milk bread?" there’s a small shift in his tone. something fond slipping through as he tilts his head just slightly, like that detail landed deeper than anything else. his fingers slow where they rest against felix’s side, brushing once more before settling there. "you didn’t have to do all that," he adds quietly, though it doesn’t sound like he minds at all. if anything, the opposite.
he exhales softly, leaning into him just a little more before lifting his head enough to look up again. "i’m not saying no to that," he admits, a faint, tired smile pulling at his lips. then, after a small pause like he’s catching up to his original train of thought, his brows knit slightly.
"wait," he glances toward the room for a second before looking back at felix. "do you know where i left my sleeping shirt?" his hand resumes its slow, absent path along felix’s back as he speaks, tone quieter now. "i was trying to find it earlier... before i got distracted. these clothes are starting to bug me and i want to get comfortable."
