          He’d liked to have said that this wasn’t like him. It really wasn’t like him.

          Not these days, anyway.

          Ren would have liked to have said a lot about himself-- particularly things that weren’t true, and that he wish were. It wasn’t that he was delusional-- no. That was terribly off course. He knew exactly what he was doing, always with a smirk about his face and a glare about his presence that made him look satisfactorily genuine, even when it should have been obvious that he wasn’t. The poise he always carried was pristine, and that of something that could calmly be compared to a king. He was clean, cropped, and perfectly in place. His clothes were, his mind was, his life seemed to be.

          From the outside, of course.

          On the inside, a subtle underlay of mutiny sometimes bubbled to the surface. On the inside, he knew. He knew his faults-- his constitutions and his dirty, dark thoughts that led him where he was now; the dark alley adjacent to the subway station at least 6 blocks from the better part of town, where he’d lived. Littered from what seemed to be top to bottom with mostly needles and stray other paraphernalia that he’d come to know so well.

Literally any theme will do.
