beak parts in a quiet response, head lowered forward much the same as the other bird had done. his own means of further communicating an apology, even if he was told not to worry, in a sense. the instinct to help wouldn't falter, but without magics to lend a helping claw, bibidi was at a bit of a loss.
dar'khol's tone, and that apology he'd come to understand, causing the avian to slowly shut its eyes in solemn acceptance.
a curious chirp, eventually, breaks the avian's silence. attention springing up towards the chocobo with a passing glance behind him, towards his traveling companion. almost immediately does bibidi flutter; wings spread defensively.
' kweh!! kweh kweeh!! ' ( no! he's friend, he's good! )
dar was left to watch with a widened stare, a cautious step backward taken with his partner's recent stance. the manner in which those squawks were given, he had an idea what they were on about. he was being seen as a problem, wasn't he?
' wark wark! ' ( raised me! my family! be nice. )
Friend? Family? Meteor stops to peer closer at miqo'te, doing the equivalent of a chocobo snort when he sees Dar backing away instead.
"Squawk! Warkwark wark!" (That guy? He's so small and soft!)
He also flaps his own wings, though more to show off his own prowess as he raises his chest in pride.
"Kwehhhh! Kweh!" (How can he protect you?) "Squawk squawk!" (He can't even hide you behind his body!)
Digging his talons into the ground, he kicks up a clawful of pebbles and asphalt at the air behind him. (Meteor was a bird with some manners. Mama told him not to throw stones in chocobos' faces when talking to them.)
Oh wait, Bibidi had told him to be nice.
"...kweh kweh," he says with solemn dignity. (His tail is very chewy, though.)
"Nice and easy now.... That's a good bird." Fiala kept her tone even and her movements steady and slow. The last thing she needed was to potentially lose a rat and her fingers. But it seemed even beings with highly destructive tendencies could be persuaded with a little treat of peanut butter and chocolate granola.
In any case, her beloved rat was at least smart enough to know when to pack up and run without needing any sort of command. With the chocobo's grip no longer as tight as before, Snickerdoodle was able to easily wriggle free from his captor and scurry back to his rightful spot on Fiala's shoulder.
"See? That ain't so hard, right? If ya like the granola, there's more where that came from! If ya behave like a good little chocobo." And don't put a crater in the middle of the island
Thankfully, Meteor hardly notices the missing prey beneath his claws as he digs into the foreign new snack with gusto. Anyways, catching the rat had been more fun than the idea of trying to eat him!
He shakes his feathers down to his tail as he pauses mid-bite to peer at the miqo'te, giving her a barely approving squawk. Her words are nonsense to his ears, but seeing someone so obviously talon-less and fluffy submit to his wiles was already proof enough that he was the superior in this relationship!
"Kweh!"
The proud chocobo preens, before resuming stuffing his beak.
"Yeah that's right. Might not be all that fruit all the birds at home enjoy but its got just enough crunch in it to make any of you go wild. Though you don't need to take my word for it. It's right here for the taking..."
Normally she'd have some kind of plan or bait ready for this all to not go down the drain. But realistically the lalafell doubted any of that would change with something as gung ho as a red chocobo. But on the bright side it might improve relations at least somewhat.
"Or I can eat it myself. Might not be the best tasting thing out there but I am feeling pretty hungry right now."
The crinkling doesn't stop, forming background noise against the confident prattling of the Lalafell before him. Meteor only opens his mouth and tries to swallow the snack that way, although there's a problem when it's still attached to a certain Warrior of Light's hand.
"Wark!"

"Oh-heey--," Judging by the curiosity and somewhat friendly (it hasn't bit his nose yet), Oliver safely assumes THIS is not the one he was looking for. Maybe the one behind? Oliver moves his head away, steps back to create at least some distance and he tries to look over the taller bird. His hands are by his side, careful as to NOT alert the BEAST.
"your friend...Uh," Teal eyes meets those black beady ones and hesitant--SLOW, he points at the Chocobo not too far away from the two of them.
The not-Meteor chocobo only blinks at him before dipping its head to bump Oliver's arm. Obviously it missed the memo, but it doesn't seem too bothered by it.
Meanwhile, another strikingly red chocobo steps casually up and zeroes in on Oliver's hair before poking it experimentally with its beak. It was fluffy like grass—could it have something to eat hidden inside?
Meteor opens his mouth in a slow, lazy yawn before closing his eyes to go to sleep. What a good dream....

Chocobo kick!
"Easy there! I don't want no trouble..." She does back up and give the chocobo some space, at least.
"Whadda ya say to a trade instead, huh? I got somethin' much tastier than that rat there..." Taking care to move slowly as to not startle the chocobo, Fiala began to dig around in her pockets. After a moment, she produced a humble little granola bar.
It was supposed to be a little treat for her and her tiny little friend to share, but if it meant getting to keep said friend it was worth the loss of it.
The wrapper was peeled and discarded and the granola bar held out cautiously to the red chocobo.
"C'mon. My delicious snack for that nasty tastin' rat. A fair trade I'd say. Look, this even has little peanut butter and chocolate bits in it. Way better, if ya ask me."
What was it with these upright-walking creatures and offering him snacks? He liked food, but he was no glutton!
Meteor almost turns his nose up at the gift, but the interesting mix of sounds and scents from the girl unwrapping the bundle has him peering back in curiosity.
It didn't smell all that bad...
The miqo'te seemed to be coaxing him, even holding the strange stick food out for him to try. There was no reason for him to ignore a gift horse granola in the mouth...
Subconsciously or not, Meteor leaned forward, loosening his grip on the rat beneath his claw in the process...
there's a happy chirp at the response, the chocobo fanning its feathers in a welcoming display. he's not oblivious to the hesitation and defensive fluff of feathers but, like master like chocobo, the bird held little fear as it returned a hearty,
'kweh! kwee-eeh!' ( bibidi! named by friend! )
beak parts to offer something more, but the avian's squawks fall short as rounded eyes pick up on the elevated foot. carefully stepping forth bibidi's neck cranes over, head lowering with a tilt. it was healing, yes, but he wished to aid it further. he's done so many times before, master always needed plenty when worked up!
'kweh!' ( help! )
straightening up, the bird ruffles its feathers in a practiced motion; a means to raise a helping of aether up through its wings and -- ... nothing conjures beneath his feathers. discouragement evident in a low, drawn out caw.
"tryin'a heal, ain't ya?" dar'khol questions through a sigh, eyes directed from his own chocobo to the other. "sorry, boy. ya won't be able to go helpin' like that for a while, and i've nothin' to lend of my own."
' 'weh...' ( sorry... )
The kind intentions aren't lost on Meteor, for what it's worth. He still has doubts about the two-legged creature behind Bibidi, but bends his head to make a sort of nudging motion, barely grazing the feathers of the other's side as he does so.
"Wark. Waaark wark!" (Don't mind. I'm strong!)
He hobbles to the side next, putting the new chocobo squarely between himself and the miqo'te, and gives a few more suspicious kwehs.
(Did he catch you?) (Should I bite him?)
"Kweeh kweeeeeeeeh!" (Two legs. Bad! Very bad!)
Some memories didn't fade. He would hate those greedy creatures forever!

"Oh you are really gonna get it at some point."
There had to be some unspoken rule she wasn't aware of. Red chocobos and not getting along with anyone under the sun, unless someone managed to dye theirs that color. Then it was just up in the air...
"Look how about this?" Milla said before pulling out a small little treat from her bag, neatly packed and wrapped like this was her plan all along. "The other birds back home always clamored towards these little snacks. Are you gonna be the same?"
The crinkle noises get his attention, even if he can't smell too much from the snack all packaged up. Meteor pauses to cock his head, staring at the offering with a mix of confusion and doubt.
Nothing in the wild had ever looked so...square or neat.
"Squawk?"
He doesn't go through with his headbutt, but changes to opening his mouth to nip for the food instead. What is it? What was it for?

"Wait, you're not the bird that I bit." The wild red chocobo Oliver spotted doesn't have the little mark from when Oliver had sunk his little sharp canines into it.
"Hm..." Of course, he's learned his lesson! He's keeping his distance, but he does want to make sure that the little injury is healing fine.
"Oh!" And THERE he is!
Meteor is preening in the sun, contentedly soaking up the rays as another chocobo grooms him. It'd be harrowing these days running around the city, but today he'd finally found a group of other 'bos just lazing in a clearing.
It was the most natural thing in the world to join them.
He doesn't notice Oliver, but the other chocobo in front of him does, and he leans in to bump his head against the boy's head in curiosity.
"Kwark?"

'kweeh!!'
the excited chirp drew in the miqo'te's attention, fingers loosening around the birds reigns as bibidi excitedly shot up. he'd know that flutter of wings and starry-eyed stare anywhere; his partner had found something of interest.
"oh? aren't you all excited."
where dar'khol would usually play the leading role, he allowed bibidi to lead him along towards whatever had caught the avian's eye. he could only speculate what it might be. something appearing edible? his chocobo had a large appreciation for varying foods and the like, or perhaps one of many shiny trinkets the bird would come to collect?
"where are ya takin' me, boy? what's got ya so--"
"... shite." yeah, that would do it, alright. whatever he may have believed it to be went right out that mental window as familiar red plumage came into view. dar can still feel a lingering ache in his tail that has the limb instinctively curling around his thigh.
"bibidi, c'mon. leave the lad alone until i can stock up on some more-- woah, hey!" a defiant tug slips the reigns from dar'khol's hold, excited chocobo taking its chance to trot forward with much the same excitement its master had given the meteor summoning bird before.
'wark wark!' ( another one! hello! )
To be honest, Meteor doesn't remember Dar as well as his juicy tail. Fortunately, the miqo'te has it curled out of sight—and there's biggest birds to fry.
He sees Bibidi at the same time the chocobo sees him, feathers fluffing up in alarm as the other runs towards him. But there's nothing so quite so reassuring as the scent, sight, and sound of the same species filling his sense, so Meteor stays put, only giving a loud squawk in return before the bird comes too close.
"Wark! Kweh kweh!" (Who! Are you?!)
He paws the ground before hopping on one foot again—there's a freshly-healed cut near his ankle, still pinkish-red from the tissue mending together.
"KWEH!"
While she wasn't completely to her usual self Milla still did slide herself out of the way of the beak, knowing full well that those things at full force will definitely leave a mark.
"Think about it. If you don't get antsy with me like this I'm more then willing to share what I got on me! Or you can just keep pecking around like a bird looking for scraps. I think there's a pretty good answer right there but are you willing to take it?"
"Blahblah blah blah blah blah...blahblahblah blah blah. Blah blah blah blahhhblahblahhblahh?"
Meteor cocked his head to listen, but there was hardly enough warks in the words to help him distinguish anything. Instead he flapped his wings and tried a headbutt next, angry at not understanding.
"Wark wark!!"

There is a half-crushed burger in his beak and a spring in his step as Meteor finishes raiding the nearest trash can in the city for something he can actually eat.
...life in the city was a mixed bag.
He's gotten scruffier too, having spent the last week or so dodging curious passerby, attacking those who try to touch him, and most famously outpacing an animal control van as it attempted to chase him around the streets simply by flying into the air.
Civilization has never groomed a bird so feral.
But! Hunger was hunger, and a chocobo needed to be fed! He half ran, half hobbled his way back to the abandoned building that was now his home before going very, very still at the entrance.
".......?"
Something smelled...familiar.

"NO!" Absoltuely NOT! He won't have his favorite jacket be ripped to shreds! It was a gift from someone dear, after all! Without even hesitating, the teenager rushes up to the Chocobo and..
CHOMPS right on the red bird's leg!

Oliver doesn't plan on letting go now! Even HE can bite! He's latched on!
"KWEEEEHHHH!"
Meteor squawks in pain, immediately abandoning the jacket on the new source of pain from his ankle. He hops in place and flaps his wings, trying to shake the boy off—and when that doesn't work, tries pecking but can't quite reach.
"Wark wark!!"
In a burst of panic, the red chocobo takes to the skies!
