always been a go-getter

she was on her way out of a classroom across the hall when she noticed him. and even though she can’t clearly see his face, he looked lost. it’s not an unfamiliar look, and of course she starts her way towards him without a thought. “everything okay?” she asked, catching his eye as she made her way toward him. “looking for something? or someone?”

         She stops in her tracks when she hears the voice. Both because she’s unsure if she’s the one being spoken to and because the information is just so out there. Once she realizes that she is being spoken to she looks down, blinks a few times before answering. “I think i heard something like that before. It’s... unsettling.” To say the least. “Unsettling, but it makes sense, I guess?” And somehow it’s even more unsettling to think of it that way. She tries to shake it off, reaching for a snack from the box being held out to her. “Thanks.”

She gives him a sheepish smile, holding out the plug end of the cord as shefreed herself from behind the furniture. As much as being tiny can have advantages, it does really get in her way sometimes. “Lizard sweaters.” As if that’s a perfectly normal activity. “I just want to reinforce the seams. I don’t trust my sewing skills enough to leave them as is.”

“that’s exactly what i’m hoping for” at the end of the day it’s the thought that counts, right? if nothing else, she just wants them to feel appreciated. “you’d probably get used to it enough after a while to tune it out, but until then? i feel bad for them.” she knows she’s learned to tune it out, but she has to hear it pretty often. “you know now that i think about it, bugs probably aren’t the weirdest thing they’ve ever had to deal with.” at least not while working at gallagher.

      “can you help me for two seconds?” she’s armed with a glue gun, if that makes her any more persuasive. it’s stone cold and she’s half wedged behind a common room couch, but still. “you can probably reach the outlet that’s back here, right? i’ve come at it three different ways and i still can’t reach it.”   ╱   @parkerbrandt​

      “i hope the person who works in the mail room likes the valentines chocolate i left for them when i went by to pick up my dragon food delivery earlier.” even though valentines day was a week ago, and it’s not like it’s a new thing for students to have reptiles who need bugs on campus. still. she likes to be nice. “i always feel like i should do something nice for them for putting up with the chirping packages they always have to deal with.”   ╱   @oofsophie​

“Oh, she would rock the pet influencer scene.” Maybe it sounds like she’s playing along, but she means it genuinely. “You should! I’d follow it. Maybe even make Hiccup an account to follow it twice.”

she reaches for the scarf in his hand —not because it’s hers, but purely out of curiosity. “no, it’s not mine,” she shakes her head, frowning a bit of the texture of the scarf between her fingers. realistically, it’s not that bad. liveable, but she’s not a fan. “i can see why someone might’ve ditched it, though.”

“She looks fantastic,” Juliet agreed, stifling a laugh. She didn’t want to make her feel self-concious! “Very stylish. I didn’t know she was such a trendsetter.”

         “that’s not quite what i meant, but thank you.” she giggled. “i was more thinking that they look kind of...” a pause while she tried to find a nice way to put creepy and unsanitary. “unauthorized?” close enough. “it is tempting to not spend forty bucks on t-shirts my sisters will outgrow in a year anyway.”

“They’re kind of similar. They’re both venomous lizards, but different species from different places.” But equally cool in her opinion. “It’s pretty cool from what I remember. But I was eight and just excited to see pandas, so maybe I’m not the most objective judge.” She laughed. Honestly, she probably wouldn’t make a great judge now. Her criteria for what makes a good zoo probably hasn’t changed too much since then. “Our little secret. Like a sexret mission on top of a seret mission.”

          she hums, considering the answer for a moment before replying, ‘ so cheesy, but slightly less insufferably predictable. ’ she agrees about the gardens, though. for such a small space there sure are a lot of them, and they all sound like they’re beautiful. ‘ too bad it’s not quite spring yet. they must be really nice to visit then. ’

      “kass, you gotta see this.” juliet excitedly waves her over to where she’s crouched next to the capitol reflecting pool. “they have little ramps for the ducks to get in and out of the water with.”   ╱   @kassamigos​

      “these souvenir carts look great and... sketchy and all, but i think i’m gonna find something to send home for my siblings somewhere else.” she feels like she’s about to get mugged just standing near one waiting to cross the street. yeah, she can fend for herself, but she’s still sticking close to drew. “like a nice, generic dinosaur from the nice, overpriced history museum.”   ╱   @drewsleung​
