Peace Love and Hampsters

Originally this animation was going to be part of a set of three, with this one being the last. However, I decided to just animate this one since I spent a lot of time fussing over the first part and wasn’t sure how to get it to work, the second part had very minimal movement and I didn’t feel the motivation to animate it, and in the end I just wanted to animate something, and I quite like the mood of part 3. I also used clip studios 3d assets to help me with the background and perspective, since its something i still have trouble with and want to get it done to the best of my abilities

(first shot was cut shorter in this gif since its still) I didn’t want to spend too long on rough animation since the movement is basic and something I could inbetween when doing the final lines (though I mainly ended up doing that for the cushioning frames at the end) 

I initially started working on it a few months ago, cut out the pieces and hand embroidered one of the eyes and horn and belly lines, but then I stopped... I don’t think there was a reason, just a bunch of other stuff came up and I was busy focusing on animation and drawing. And so, it sat on my desk waiting to be finished.

But a coupla weeks ago, I returned to this and finished embroidering the other eye. last thursday I told myself to finally finish this plush off! I pretty much spent all day thursday to sunday working on it, and then monday to thursday I would just spend the evening sewing and attaching all the parts together and adding details until it was done!

I am so happy with how well this turned out! It is so cute and soft to touch. The only thing I’m a little annoyed with is how the thread knots used for attaching the body parts together can be seen in some areas (namely the horns, the other knots are hidden by faux fur or the necklace) but I can’t really help it since I used a thicker polyester thread and it is a bit harder to hide compared to cotton thread.

these were the original boards for the shot. the storyboards/project this was a part of was pretty long for me, and when i timed it, it was around 5 minutes long. even though the original project was just gonna be an animatic (ofc with cleaned up characters and bgs etc), i found it difficult to motivate myself to work on it around quarter way through, especially with a bunch of other stuff going on so i abandoned it.

to keep things short, around a month ago i wanted to work on a short animation so i looked to this old project and picked out this shot which had fun character movement and well, started

rough animation! it was fun drawing the key poses, although i think the overall animation moves a lil bit too fast - even if he is panicked and talking quickly - but unfortunately it was something i didnt notice until towards the end... uhh

Kinda inspired by the times where I would just sneak onto a Hinox and steal the gear/items around their necks because I couldn’t be bothered fighting them (or was too afraid earlier in my play through)

inspired by a location from the game. I thought the scene of a korok flower on top of a rusted guardian was pretty neat and it has stuck with me.
