Knowing yourself is the best way to equal the desire and the life.
You silly little girl, you think youāve survived so long survival shouldnāt hurt anymore. You keep trying to turn your body bulletproof. You keep trying to turn your heart bomb shelter. Stop, darling. You are soft and alive. You bruise and heal. Cherish it. It is what you were born to do. It will not be beautiful, but the truth never is. Come now, you promised yourself. You promised youād live through this.
Clementine von Radics, āThere is the Worst and Then There is More,ā Mouthful of ForeversĀ (via wordsnquotes)
People who really want to make a difference in the world usually do it, in one way or another. And Iāve noticed something about people who make a difference in the world: They hold the unshakable conviction that individuals are extremely important, that every life matters. They get excited over one smile. They are willing to feed one stomach, educate one mind, and treat one wound. They arenāt determined to revolutionize the world all at once; theyāre satisfied with small changes. Over time, though, the small changes add up. Sometimes they even transform cities and nations, and yes, the world.

You listen up. If you really loved this person theyāre always going to be a part of you, and youāre not going to get over it, and maybe that sounds like a dismal thing you donāt want to hear right now but you loved them for a reason because they spoke to a part of you thatās at your core, and you donāt want to erase that, you want to still be open to those feelings and if you try to shut them out and pretend they never even got in there and you can just turn that off, well thatās a really cold thing and a cold place to be. And Iāve been through a couple of break-ups in my day, theyāre never easy, and a friend of mine once said something to me that I found really, really touching. I was saying āI donāt know how Iām going to get over this one man itās really messing with my head,ā and he said āSometimes you donāt need to get over things, sometimes you need to recognize that life can be chaotic, and the chaos just exists.ā And that really calmed me down. And I think youāve got to remember like do you want to get over it? I donāt know that you do, I think you want to move on and think of it as a piece of your past instead of something thatās going to mess with your present or that youāre worried about with your future. But you should let that be the past. If you really loved that person thatās a beautiful thing you donāt want to get over that and thereās probably a lot that you can take away from that even if you still do love them a little bit forever.

you donāt exist anymore not to me anyway i cast your stuff in the ocean, along with the feelings i never seemed to lose last year you donāt exist anymore i donāt see you anywhere and youāre almost never on my mind when i look at the stars, i only see the stars and when i watch the moon, i see nothing but the moon

āShe looked at him and said, āWeāre all the same. We are all human. We all want to be successful and have jobs and spouses and families. And eventually, we will all die. We arenāt that different from each other.ā He looked at her with an expression of disbelief. How can she believe that? Maybe he was just a dreamer and she was a realist and they saw the world in different ways, but he couldnāt believe they were all the same. āBut I am me and you are you and we are both made up of our own losses and triumphs, our happiness and sadness, our life struggles. And nothing is more beautiful than that thought. We are different, not by the way we look, but because we have all endured different battles. We have all overcome a different demon.ā She was quiet as she thought about that. He had a point, and God he was beautiful when he spoke of something he was passionate about. She had always struggled with herself. Always so cautious to believe in anything that couldnāt be seen, like God or love. She saw the world in black and white. But this boy who had a fire in his heart, he made her see the world in color, and he made her want to believe in love.ā

I will grow. Ā Ā My mind will bloom into an overgrown orchard, wildflowers scattered beyond tower walls. Ā I will stand tall, Ā Ā Castle walls high, remove the weeds you planted, remove the memory of your unfriendly eyes. Ā Ā I will build myself stronger with everything you tried to take

This is what I have. The dull hangover of waiting, the blush of my heart on the damp grass, the flower-faced moon. A gull broods on the shore where a moment ago there were two. Softly my right hand fondles my left hand as though it were you.

Maybe love stays. Maybe love canāt. Maybe love shouldnāt. Love arrives exactly when love is supposed to. And love leaves exactly when love must. When love arrives, say, āWelcome. Make yourself comfortable.ā If love leaves, ask her to leave the door open behind her. Turn off the music, listen to the quiet. Whisper, āThank you for stopping by.ā

A Brief History of the Art of Conversation: I
I was looking back through my dissertation work from a few years ago, and found this poem. Thought Iād share it! It is in ten parts, but Iāll just share the first for now. A Brief History of the Art of Conversation Chapter I - The Crack of Dawn: A New-Fledged Faculty When they grunted, Gathered, hunted, Words were useful man-made tools ā Tongue-young, rough-and-ready. Always to the point. Pointed. Like a finger. Black and white did Not stay distinct. Grey slunk In, sinew waited by the cave mouth: Salivating saw-toothed wolf. They stockpiled sharpened sentences, Belched billowing fireballs And hurled barbed insults. They made each weapon double-edged: Throat-thrown, tongue-flung.
