ACCESSIBILITY: Requires flying, Legion content

CAVEATS: I’m hesitant to post this one. The uninstanced Nighthold is crawling with mobs in most portions, but there are a few places that are unoccupied.

NOTES: As long as you don’t venture too far away from the safe areas, you can use the Nightwell’s cradle and Elisande’s palace for your own ends. Two notable locations are the well’s tower and the courtyard garden, including the terrace behind it.

ZONE: Dragon Isles, Thaldraszus. NPCS: None. ACCESSIBILITY: Neutral, easily reached.

NOTES: A lovely spot for artistic souls who wish to express themselves with some painting and beautiful vistas.

Location: First Arcanist’s Retreat

Zone: Suramar

Notes: Most of the First Arcanist’s estate is, annoyingly, still infested with hostile Nightborne. She should really do something about that– but in the meantime, we can at least enjoy a little peace and quiet off to the side in both a balcony with a view of the estate (and… a lot of rocks), and a little lounge sequestered away directly below it. When do we get the full city to use, again?

Location: Nighthold Nook

Zone: Suramar

Notes: The Nighthold has changed a little since I last visited for this blog, and while some areas have been repopulated, this little quiet nook off to the side remains free for someone to curl up and finally get some uninterrupted reading done with the perfect ambiance to do so.

Many of the items below, which are consumed immediately for artifact power, have little lore except that which they imply. There are many more than these, but in order to shorten the list I have opted to include only objects of night elf/Highborne origin. (That, for example, means I will not be listing any items that came into possession of elves that were initially created by titans or old gods, etc.) That does mean some of these items will be Nightborne in design and may not be relevant to the pre-Sundering information I wish to provide about Highborne society, but they can allude to traditional arts and objects that did exist pre-Sundering.

Since this list includes items from Legion and all prior expansions, it will be a continued work in progress with the assumption that all listed below are not all in existence. There are some duplicate items that can be found in earlier artifact posts.

Because there are so many Aran cities, I’m splitting them into three posts! Shal’Aran will get its own post because it’s a Legion spoiler whereas the others are not and its information is subject to change.

Note: I’m operating under the assumption that ‘Aran’ is a Darnassian suffix that indicates it is a city (likely in a different way than ‘naar’ does for towns like Dolanaar and Astranaar, especially since all of the cities with ‘Aran’ in their name are pre-Sundering ruins). Because of that, the ‘Aran’ suffix may denote certain types of Highborne cities. I’m also assuming that most, if not all of these cities were Highborne cities pre-Sundering by association of Bashal’Aran, Ameth’Aran, Biel’Aran, and Shal’Aran, which were all places where Highborne were known to have lived in, if not nearby. I am also using spots that are archaeology sites as some (if not substantial) evidence for the cities being Highborne because many archaeology items are of Highborne origin.
