i started liars by sarah manguso but the main character’s husband is making me wanna kms and the copy i got from the library reeks of cigarettes so bad i might actually vomit so i guess no thank you

my daughter just started venturing into tiny chapter books and finding stuff for her to read at the library together is like top 5 parental experiences EVER

so while i may not personally call it body horror, i wouldn’t stop any woman from viewing pregnancy in that way because it’s probably closer to the truth.

i don’t think pregnancy is “body horror” but i absolutely agree that it’s been presented as something that is only beautiful and miraculous and safe because of how “natural” it is without informing people of how many medical interventions are needed for women to have “safe” pregnancies, how absolutely every part of your body changes nearly forever, how breastfeeding, postpartum/perinatal mental illness, and the lack of even basic care for mothers makes pregnancy and early motherhood literal hell on earth for far too many women and that’s when you have a pretty “normal” pregnancy. don’t even ask about when there are complications. so while yes, it’s miraculous, i do think people downplay the very real horrors that a very large portion of women experience during pregnancy. speaking as someone who had several layers of her flesh cut open in front of her so they could pull my baby out of me, there are many many many versions and aspects of pregnancy and childbirth which are horrific and traumatic to go through. sorry if that bursts someone’s bubble but

it is strange how all of these articles keep popping up like positive spin thinkpieces about certain popstars defending their choices or private life, almost like they’re trying to implant criticism and discourse about it. idk man i know this is borderline conspiracy but it doesn’t feel organic like almost 90% of the stuff on twitter now is designed to ragebait and misinform so people correct/argue in the comments. i wouldn’t be surprised if it’s part of a marketing strategy to promote or retain engagement in an artist’s new album etc. by finding topics to drive discourse and mine interest.
