Children of Misfortune

"To be honest, I'd rather tell you now. Please, hear me out though. You may not enjoy what you hear. You may be scared, frightened, and wish to run away. But let me tell you right now, Jean Havoc. I'm probably the best chance you have right now, with those guys on your tail."

"I won't tell you everything, due to our short amount of time. However, I wil tell you the basics."

"You aren't the only one being hunted. By now, the rest of your team is as well. My own squad should be there to help them. I can't honestly tell you why they're after you, because I'm not too sure. All I know, is that it has to do with the Flame Alchemist."

Well wasn’t this just peachy? Everything had rather quickly gone to shit, though that wasn’t at all surprising as most expeditions ended up that way at some point. Artemis maneuvered as gracefully as she could through the air. She had gotten separated from the formation she had been apart of when she took care of a seven meter titan had tried to sneak up on them. 

The brunette normally hung out at the back anyway so loosing sight of her comrades wasn’t all that surprising. Though she should have caught up to them by now, and considering she didn’t see bits and pieces, of humans or titans, she assumed the group she had been in was alive. 

They may have double timed it, or changed course. To be safe Artemis decided she would keep her current heading for a while longer. Pressing the trigger  for the gas the brunette propelled herself forward. 

Minutes passed before she heard the tale tell stomping of a titan. Turning her head about Artemis’s hazel eyes caught sight of a ten meter titan on all fours moving with a purpose.  Her eye looked about for what could have possibly gotten the monstrosities attention. She doubted it was after her, well, it didn’t seem after her any way. 

Seeing no one she assumed they had gotten away and the titan was just chasing after ghosts. Artemis shifted her body, it was best to take care of it now before it spotted her.

 It took her all but a minute to change course, blades out and prepared. The titan didn’t know what hit it as the steel sliced through the flesh of the creatures neck.

Landing on the a near by tree branch she watched as it’s huge body started to evaporate. It was then there, while peering down that Artemis saw what the Titan had been heading towards.

So that’s what it was after

There lying a few feet away from the evaporating corpse was a body. Immediately the brunette jumped down to ground level and headed toward the still form her boots heavily stomping on the ground. 

Once close enough she took notice of the man’s broken gear and bloody head. He was in bad shape, and it occurred to her that he may not even still be alive. 

She nudged (kicked) the his leg.

This seemed to be taking longer then it should. Darius knew that these creatures were cruel, but the wait for death was agonizing. Couldn't the damn thing just get it over with? He was prepared for this, he was ready to die. So why wasn't he feelings anything wrap around him? Why wasn't anything liftinh him up and swallowing him whole? Hell, bite him in half, and let it be lights out!

 Feeling a firm kick to his leg, his eyes flew open in surprise and pain. Gripping the area, he assumed he'd have to add a bruise to his wounds. Remembering that there should be something there over him, he looked up to see a girl standing. When he heard her words, his lips parted and he blinked in confusion.

"W-What the hell..?" 

Looking around, he spotted a quickly evaporating body of the slayed titan off in the distance. Darius's gaze turned back to the other, soon looking her over. His savior, was this kid? He didn't even know that there were soldiers in this area. His squad was suppose to be the only one assigned to there. 

In a way, Darius was disappointed that he hadn't died. Now he'd have to not only live with the burden of being the only one in his squad to survive, but also he couldn't even save them. His friends and captain were all killed by one titan. What did that say about him? He was weak, and a coward for not even trying. 

Gaze softening, the dreadful feeling of angst, guilt, and loneliness began to fill his heart. He had been saved, but he was badly injured and had no way to protect himself. He was just going to get another person killed. He didn't want to live with anymore suffering or sadness.

"Listen, I'm in no condition to move around. I'll only drag you down and get you killed. You can probably guess what happened, if I'm the only one left and you had to save me."

SCREAMING HIS ORDERS

➜ Iyani flinched when he heard the other suddenly choking on his water. Shit, did he say something wrong? He got momentarily distracted and looked at the other with a concerned expression. Maybe he swallowed wrong? Or maybe he caught him off guard? He wasn’t sure but he was worried.

He took a small step back when the other’s head shot up, seeing the annoyed expression. A small frown crossed his visage for a moment before narrowing his eyes to look away. He hated whenever he upset Reese, because he seemed to get pretty heated when his mood got bad. He just wish he didn’t do it as often as he did.

He shut his eyes tight when the other walked over to him and raised a hand, flinching a little when he felt the small flick. His eyes parted in a confused manner as he looked at the other, listening to his words. and before he knew it, his right hand swung up and covered his mouth, stifling a small laugh that was coming from his throat.

He just found it so adorable the way that the other reacted so boldly to his compliment, and now that he looked at him, he could see the flush on his cheeks, and that just made him even cuter. But all of this distracted him from the fact that his sleeve started to fall and reveal some of the dark scar.

"The more you yap, the more I'm tempted to silencing your vocal cords." Reaching up, he pinched the others cheeks, tugging and pulling at them. Shooting the other a death glare, he attempted to conceal his heated face by messing with the other. It was the only thing he could think of to do, besides yelling, leaving, or freaking out.

Of course, he'd noticed the scar. He ignored it though. It was one of the first things he noticed about Iyani. He tended to hide things he was uncomfortable with, or nervous about. He may have done a shitty job of it, but it wasn't Reese's business. It never would be, and so he didn't bother paying it any attention.

➜ Iyani glanced at the other for a brief second when he heard him walk into the kitchen, but didn’t say a single word just yet seeing as he had to quickly get back to the food to make sure it wouldn’t burn. He had only his left sleeve rolled up to avoid from damaging the sweater, so he hardly used his right hand at all, mostly just leaving it wrapped around himself.

A nervous noise escaped him when he realized that the other was staring at him. He only noticed in his peripheral vision, but just knowing he was staring made a bright blush cross his cheeks. He wasn’t sure if he was angry with him or if he was just staring to stare, or if there were other reasons.

He was also desperately hoping that the other hadn’t noticed how he was acting while cooking. He knew full well the other probably noticed the scar on his left cheek not long ago, but it was never spoken of. But he knew if he saw the large one on his arm, it’d be a different story.

So when he noticed that the raven finally stopped staring, a sigh of relief escaped him, followed by a small smile crossing his lips. He turned his head to look at him for a moment before speaking.

     "M-morning… I-I hope this is o-okay for you t-to eat… A-and I wasn’t s-sure if—-"

Iyani had remembered at that moment that the other would probably be leaving after eating something, and he wasn’t sure if he’d come back. He quickly shook his head of the saddening thought and quickly brought back his smile.

Taking another long sip, he watched the other carefully. He seemed to be worrying about something, but Reese put it into the back of his mind, not giving it another thought. He probably should care more, but he was - distracted. 

Eyes practically glued to Iyani, Reese continued to look at the other. He didn't know why, but he just couldn't look away. By now, he had to know that he was making the other uncomfortable.

When the other spoke, he choked on his water, hacking some up, and a continuous string of coughs. Gripping his throat, he attempted to catch his breath. When he did, he set his bottle on the counter. Hand still at the base of his neck, his face was flushed not only because of the fact he was choking, he had also found the comment a bit.. 

Head snapping up, he shot the other a look of annoyance. Why did he have to say stuff like that anyways.. His reaction was completely different then what it would have been just the other day. If Iyani had said just that same thing, Reese would have just ignored it, or maybe shrugged it away. Things like this had never bothered him before. 

Why the fuck is going on..!

Remembering how the other reacted to Reese's anger, he took a deep breath. He didn't want the other crying and running out the door again. It was an inconvenience, and a pain in the ass.. Or feet, in his case. Instead, he walked over to the other, raised a hand, and flicked the others forehead.

     ’I was rooting for his execution…’      Oh. That statement was as good as a death wish, signed and ready to go. A fiery rage was ignited inside the cadet. Eren’s nostrils flared in rage, his demeanor resembling that of a wolf on the hunt. His target was sighted, his claws were out, and his teeth were bared; nothing could deter him from his path now. Not the stares from everyone whom was around, and not even the wide eyed expression plastered on the face of his adoptive sister who was walking with him.

Disgusting. 

"I'd like to ask that you don't touch me with such filthy hands. A monster like you must carry around hundreds of gross things. I don't want to catch anything." Tone laced with bitterness, the redhead taunted the other. He wanted to see how interesting this poor excuse for a soldier.. No, for a human could get.

"To answer your question however, no. I don't have a problem with you. I have a problem with how our government and military is handling this little.. Situation. Not only are you a toxic little thing, Eren Jaeger. But you're also a failure as a so-called soldier."

"You practically gave yourself over to Braun and Fubar. Not to mention you couldn't fight Annie Leonhardt. Is this because of your so-called feelings? That obviously can't be since you ended up almost killing an important pawn to humanity."

Turning his attention to the raven-haired girl, he tilted his head. Setting his hands into his pockets, he leaned towards her slightly. Dark eyes shifting from her grey iris, to her blood-red scarf. A small smile nipped at his cold features. 

"If I'm correct, you held ill-feelings towards the female shifter, did you not? I wonder if it was because your beloved brother held rather strong feelings for her. Am I right? You got jealous because  this little brat wanted to bang her instead of you?"
