Prince of Every Kingdom

“Constance, how can you say you love me? Hm?”

He eyed her carefully. The way she sprawled onto her side, sheets bunched at her waist now that she’d propped herself up. The way she pretended to pout and look forlornly at him, her very heart breaking in her chest in his absence.

It was all a ploy and she knew it would work on him. It was why she did it. She also knew he saw right through it, would shake his head at her shenanigans, and that his “scolding” would always be exactly what she wanted.

“Here I am trying to remake this shattered empire into a united realm of independent states, and you’re over there looking like that. Unbelievable.”

He tossed his pen onto the desk with an exaggerated scoff, rising from his chair and tugging his shirt over his head so that he might sleep comfortably once she inevitably pinned him to the mattress and used her sorcery to trance him into sleep. Or so he told everyone she did.
