Translation of Nintendo Dreamās article about Xenoblade Genesis (vol.387 Aug. 2026)
Please note that my Japanese isnāt fluent, so please help me improve and feel free to correct any mistakes.
A new Genesis in the Xenoblade Series.
A new tale in the Xenoblade series has been born!
In the video that was released, we were shown a world in which all things are manifested from the Anima that flows throughout the vast land, along with a scene in which a red-haired character with long ears enters Leukos, an academy for Vesselai.
Additional memorable scenes included riding creatures similar to horses and dragons, as well as intriguing comments made by a variety of characters.
We donāt know the specific details yet, but the sight of the land stretching all the way to the sky made us imagine the possibility of freely travelling across a vast world, as weāve come to expect from the Xenoblade series.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Japanese Version Observation and Thoughts on Ultra 4DX Version
I moved to Japan in the time between the first and second movie, so this time around I was able to see the Japanese version a few times. Two of those times were in Ultra 4DX and one was a regular 4D screening, so I thought Iād share a little about them.
Please note that I'm not fluent in Japanese, so Iām definitely going to have missed some things. Iām waiting for the DVD release, so I can watch with subtitles. Iāll be very clear if Iām not entirely confident about something. Please also feel free to correct me if I made any mistakes that you know of.
Spoilers ahead!
Japanese Version Observations
- Voices were typically kept the same if it was a character that didnāt outright speak (eg. Yoshi, the blue toad that gets saved and escorted home, the babies etc.)
- A few moments had additional minor dialogue. (The yellow luma prompts Peach to come with it when making the warp star, Bowser makes walking sounds when he moves his puppet off of the bed, and his puppet yells goodnight when leaving the room.
- Luigi still sings Amore, itās just a Japanese version of it.
- The Lumaās chant āé«ā (mustache) instead of āplumbersā.
- Thereās a few additional instances of the bros joking about each other. (Mario mimics Luigi saying his childhood is over rather than just saying that he said it, and Luigi copies Peachās nickname of āMustacheā when joking about the contents of her letter to Mario.
- Toad is jealous about Yoshi joining because he thinks that heās supposed to be known as the cute one.
- Luigiās codenames when using the radio are āgreenā, āredā, and ādogā. He uses the English words for all three instead of using their Japanese language equivalents.
- I didnāt catch everything that was said here, so there might be information missing, but during the confrontation on the bridge, it sounded to me that Bowser was complaining over making the soup, rather than being forced to join a book club. (Itās possible that he complained about both, but I didnāt catch it.)
- Luigiās comment about the castle dying at the end carried more of an implication that it just vanished into thin air.
- There may actually be two different versions of the Japanese script. I also watched the English version in theatres several times, which was accompanied by Japanese subtitles. There were times when I wanted to clarify something that I heard in the Japanese dub, only to find that the subtitles were different. Iād need to look more at this when the DVD version comes out. Everything else Iāve spoke about so far relates to the Japanese dub, not the sub.
Thatās all for now that immediately jumps to mind, but feel free to ask any questions if you have them. (I might not know the answers for a while, but I can look down the line!)
Ultra 4DX Thoughts
The Ultra 4DX version differed from the regular 4D version in a few ways, so Iāll start with what the regular 4D version did differently.
- The normal 4D version included 3D, which the Ultra 4DX didnāt.
- There was more emphasis on the smaller movements in the normal 4D, which Ultra 4DX often omitted in place of more realistic effects. The first example to come to mind is Bowser painting. In the 4D version, every move of his brush was accompanied by small seat movements, whereas there was no movement in the Ultra 4DX version, but there were splashes of water when he threw the paint at the canvas.
- The 4D version used scent (though only once from what I noticed.) when the group land into the jungle, you can smell the jungle.
- There were more flashing lights to accompany action scenes in the regular 4D version, usually after any kind of impact.
Okay, now onto what was specific to the Ultra 4DX version.
- Much stronger movement compared to the normal 4D version. It felt like being on a roller coaster at times, with enough movement to completely spin our cups around in the cup holder.
- Stronger impacts. For example, you can feel a hit to your back when Luigi kneecaps Bowser Jr. (it wasnāt uncomfortable, but enough to jolt you forward a little if you arenāt expecting it.)
- Screen X was cool and allowed you to see a lot more of the backgrounds. Occasionally you could get to see characters that the normal version wouldnāt allow you to see. (You can fully see Mario when Bowser Jr. hugs his father after being saved from the dragon, for example.)
- The headrests would heat up a bit whenever there was fire.
- Smoke occasionally came up from the floor beneath the screen (used during the desert scenes and when the group are running away from the falling castle.)
- You could feel wind blowing at you during the Fox ride segments (This, along with the stronger movement made those scenes the highlight for me during the Ultra 4DX viewing.)
Those are the main points that come to mind. Overall, it was a really cool experience! Iām looking forward to the DVD release in Japan. I want to see if they sell both movies in one over here, so I can look through the changes to the first movieās script, too.
Wanted to take a shot at translating the information on Xenoblade Genesis that was released on Monolith Soft's page.
Please note that I'm not fluent in Japanese, so there could be some minor mistakes here and there. Please feel free to correct me if you notice anything.
I chose to keep names consistent with the English version if the English name was already known. An example of this is åØ士, which can mean vessel warrior/vessel samurai in Japanese. This has been localised as Vesselai in the English trailer. (Presumably vessel + samurai.)
I donāt think Anshar and Eleanor have been confirmed as the English names yet (Anshar could also be read as Anshal), so they could be subject to change in the English version.
- Rhythm Heaven looks fun! Iāve never played the series, but Iām considering it. I like the look of the RPG mode.
- Canāt wait for the Pokopia update! Building around the water is such a pain normally, so this looks like itāll fix that issue.
- Fire Emblem looks interesting. Iāve only played a few of the games in the series, but Iāll probably play this one.
- I really like the Donkey Kong Bananza Mario collab and the new song is great, but it seems like you donāt keep the outfits and that makes me sad. I want a permanent Luigi outfit Pauline :(
- Iām an enormous Xenoblade fan, so the Switch 2 editions and announcement of Xenoblade Genesis were easily the biggest highlights for me. Canāt believe they brought back all original voice actors just to voice the heart-to-hearts. This is the first time some of these actors are coming back to voice these characters in 16 years. The new modes being added to 2 and 3 look fun, too!Iām super intrigued with Genesis. It looks like a totally new direction for the series and the world looks beautiful.
- I loved Wii Sports Resort, so Iām excited! Canāt wait to go back to Wuhu island after so long. I hope we can explore it open world style. Iāve wanted that since the first time I saw it. The long segment dedicated entirely to thumb wrestling was a choice, but my friends and I thought the amount of time spent on showing it was really funny.
- Iāve never played Star Fox, but Iām intrigued after the Galaxy movie, so Iāll probably make my start here.
- So excited for Splatoon Raiders! Iām looking forward to the direct for it.
- Iāve been wanting to replay Ocarina of Time for a while, so Iām very excited about the remake. Hoping itāll one day lead to one for Majoraās Mask, too!
- I was a little surprised to see no Mario outside of the Bananza collab, especially since the first direct after the first movie was a massive stream of Mario announcements, but it was announced beforehand that the movie was the main event of the 40th anniversary, so maybe itās not too surprising.
I enjoyed the direct overall, but I also feel like enjoyment of this one for a lot of people might depend on:
A: Whether or not they had already heard about the Ocarina of Time rumours.
B: Whether or not theyāre a Xenoblade fan.
I think ending on Ocarina might not have been the best call since it was already rumoured, so I can understand the disappointment around it. Leading with it might have been better, especially since there wasnāt any gameplay shown.
Thereās certainly some big games still missing from the Switch 2, so itāll be exciting to see the next one!
Hopes for the next direct:
- Luigiās mansion 4
- Animal Crossing
- New 3D Mario game
- Professor Layton and the New World of Steam release date
- A Tomodachi Life update (I miss the Concert Hall)
