This has been the most rewarding use of a Sunday afternoon.

Its all in the posture

Rabbits are prey animals, and because of this instinctually, they hide sickness so they dont draw attention to themselves by predators. For domestic rabbits, early symptoms are not easy to catch so you need a careful eye.

Pain in most small mammals usually looks like a rather hunched sitting position.

Typically the head is ducked and the back is kinda pushed oddly. Think of how you curl up when you have a stomach ache. The front paws are not really relaxed but visibly look like the buny is kinda leaning forward on them.

A key detail is they tend to stay in this position and are very reluctant to move

Usually but not always, eyes can be kinda squinty or slow closing and rabbits may also grind their teeth, similar to tooth purring but harsher noise. It will literally sound like teeth are GRINDING

Another posture to look for that is very common is tummy pressing which spindle does that instantly cues me

Its like how you want to rub your stomach or lay on your stomach when it hurts to alleviate pain. Its important to observe your bunny while healthy and sometimes its good to even take pictures or record your healthy rabbit to have a point of reference because posture differences can be subtle.
