thyméo met his partner pokemon when he was 10, playing a game of knights and dragons with friends, he managed to grab onto a honedge ⎛ by accident! ⎠ which latched onto his arm, and is the reason his right arm is no longer the dominant arm ⎛ there's some nerve damage! ⎠ per the dex entry for honedge:

Apparently Honedge was born when a departed spirit began inhabiting an ancient sword. It attaches itself to people and drinks their life force.

the spirit in the sword is an oathbreaker paladin named thibaud, who happens to be the dark bakura to thyméo. his past incarnation, thibaud died on the battlefield- spitting curses at the world as his blood stained his own blade ⎛ honedge is shiny! ⎠ , the vengeful soul latched onto the bloodied blade and followed the honedge creation path.

since thibaud is just 'thyméo in the past but if he also had no coping skills', instead of draining thymeo's life force, thibaud formed a link between the blade and thyméo.

unlike most of the honedge evolution line, the evolution from doublade to aegislash was spontaneous- usually it takes a dusk stone, but doublade will evolve on its own if it senses the 'soul of a king' in its trainer, and thyméo may not be a king's bloodline, but he's the blood of the holy maiden of kalos, which counts!

due to his unique bond with his pokemon, when aegislash ⎛ thibaud ⎠ takes damage, thyméo ALSO takes damage. he has finished battles hiding bruises forming, and very few people are aware of how the bond between him and his ace pokemon actually works.

the other fun fact is that thibaud can do a little switcheroo and throw thyméo into the body of the aegislash and then wander around using thymeo's body himself.

thyméo still remembers the day where he sat for the portrait. his mother had done her best to calm his nerves, brushing his hair and telling him that it wouldn't take too long. so he sat for it. when the day was done, the portrait was finished.

now, in shabboneau castle was a portrait of a young man with inky black hair and pale blue eyes- just on the cusp of manhood. he had the potential to be someone handsome, but still had the awkward look of a teenager still growing into his body. it was one of the items in the castle that his mother refused to donate or sell- even though thyméo had told her that he wouldn't mind.

it wasn't such a surprise to know then, that someone had seen the portrait. a young woman who, after a moment, he recognizes as grand duchess blue. they'd never had a battle before, but it was expected for him to know the challengers who came and rose through the ranks.

the portrait at shabboneau castle does you little justice, she says, and he gives a small smile. ❝ you flatter me, grand duchess, ❞

honestly, thyméo is rather open as a person- but the one thing he keeps close to the vest is the existence of thibaud, the soul from his aegislash, because thibaud is like dark bakura. angry and vengeful (and his reasons are actually pretty valid tbqh).

an oathbreaker paladin from the medieval times of kalos, thibaud essentially was betrayed by the people he swore to protect, and he went off the shits about it. he died on the battlefield and his bloodstained sword became a honedge that wandered. thyméo is the reincarnation of what was left over, it's a messy situation.

usually, thyméo has this well handled, but sometimes his anger flares and that's when it becomes more obvious that something isn't quite right.
