KimKenta thoughts, because genuinely that made no sense to me
Their rescue scene was so good. It showed just how much they care about each other, Kim literally killed multiple people for Kenta without hesitation. Kenta, despite having been held and tortured for days, immediately put himself in front of Kim to shield him with his new ability. Kim putting the bullet vest on him and kissing Kenta on instinct, telling him he wouldn't leave him behind and Kenta finally having a moment of initiating. It was so good π₯Ήπ
How on earth do you write "I told you before I'd never leave you" to have their next scene be Kim leaving and Kenta staying put with an offer of "call me if you want". I get the whole "Kenta trying to live for himself for once" but how do you write Kim saying he wouldn't leave him to have him immediatley do just that... did they not think about that at all?? Besides... Kim and Kenta lived together so where is Kenta going with no money or job?? I can only assume he's nowhere near Pete so where did he go π.
I like that they're giving Kenta some time to learn how to be his own person, for someone like him it would be incredibly easy to slip into the codependent thing he had with Pete and Tony. My issue comes in writing the line "I won't leave you" then immediatley having the character do the opposite. Kim was gonna leave and while for him it was a given that Kenta would be allowed to contact him, for Kenta that isn't a given, for him it's something he needs permission for and something he more than likely wouldn't have done without having explicitly asked first. For Kenta it would mean leaving him. It's the writing making mixed signals.
I assume judging by the shot of them at the wedding they do end up together... but like... how?? Does Kim still live away from them?? Are they long distance like North and Sonic were?? Did Kenta join him at some point?? We got nothing. I get not including some stuff for time constraints but judging from what we did get... its not enough to really tell us their ending. I know the other couple's endings except theirs.
Their story feels so incomplete. I knew Kim was always going to leave the country but I expected he would atleast hint at Kenta about leaving with him. That goodbye conversation could have gone differently. But I also felt that they had so much more to say to each other but for some reason they held back. It was bittersweet. I believe Kim wants Kenta to take the decision regarding where their relationship should head. Kim have already made his feelings clear. He is waiting for Kenta to figure it out and tell him.
But I don't understand why they couldn't give us one year later update for Kimkenta. We have no knowledge of what happened in that one year. Did they already get together before the wedding ? If then how did that happen? They were the only couple who did not kiss during the wedding montage. Should I then think they are meeting each other for the first time since Kim left? Have they not figured it out yet? They look happy so I know they are at a good place. But what happened in between? There is so much we don't know. It was so disappointing to get nothing regarding their relationship development when every other got something. Change could have easily included something. It's so unfair to KimKenta. They deserved more!!
This exactly!! I would've been completely fine with Kim going and Kenta not if it had been done better. Kenta learning how to be an individual before entering a relationship is good, but writing it to say "I wouldn't leave you" then having him leave with a "you can call me" isn't great writing. They make it look like Kenta and Kim hadn't talked since the rescue and that if this scene hadn't happened they potentially wouldn't be in contact when Kim left.
I liked that Kim let the ball stay in Kenta's court, he's clearly a lot more comfortable in this and is letting Kenta decide if they start something, but the way they did it... not great.
They really needed to either put a little bit more into that scene or have another small one show how we got from point A (the rescue, kiss and declaration) to point B (Kim leaving and them seemingly being left open) to point C (they look like a couple at the wedding). For every other couple we know clearly if they're together and how it happened, but not for these two. There was much more to be said between them. They left entirely too much unanswered, there's a point where you can leave stuff up to interpretation, but at least give us something to work off of.
