‘ oh, you were phrasing it in a dramatic way. ’ - bree to percy
“it’s always dramatic with you, ain’t it?” percy sighed, stretching out on his couch, his flannel shirt unbuttoned halfway, showing his tattoos magnificently drawn against his muscles and tanned skin. “bree cohen, you are a fine piece of work.”
✰ — — — BUZZFEED UNSOLVED SENTENCE STARTERS
‘ strap in ‘cause this one is rough. ’ ‘ it’s– it’s yucky. ’ ‘ i’m aware of some details of this and it’s– it’s yucky. ’ ‘ i’m not a gambling man, but i don’t really like those odds. ’ ‘ we could conceivably run into this guy taking a dump in the woods or something. ’ ‘ are you fucking out of your mind? ’ ‘ i’m starting to think you want to die. ’ ‘ you turned a corner on that one pretty quick. ’ ‘ oh my god, it’s fucking horrifying. ’ ‘ there’s an elk, though. there’s a deer over there. ’ ‘ here’s the remains and rubble of one of the greatest unsolved mysteries of all time and you’re looking at the fucking deer in the forrest. ’ ‘ maybe they were in there telling ghost stories. ’ ‘ that’s not what pillow talk is, i don’t think. ’ ‘ pillow talk could either mean something you do after sex or it could mean what’s like sleepover talk. ’ ‘ do you tell ghost stories after sex? ’ ‘ all very effective for– for murder. ’ ‘ they stabbed him so hard that the knife bent. ’ ‘ you would think that there’d be at least one witness. ’ ‘ you see someone running through the forrest covered in blood, you’re probably not gonna bat an eye. ’ ‘ that’s not how the forrest works. ’ ‘ excuse me, sir. why are you covered in blood? ’ ‘ i’m glad to know that you would be the worst crime scene witness of all time. ’ ‘ oh, you were phrasing it in a dramatic way. ’ ‘ what is it about killers– that they want to be caught so badly… or like they want to get as close to being caught without being caught? ’ ‘ i can’t put my mind into the mind of a criminal. ’ ‘ i can put my mind into the mind of a criminal. ’ ‘ some of them must be friends, others would like to plunge knives into each other. ’ ‘ i can imagine one friend of yours murdering you. ’ ‘ i’m pretty sure there was a coverup by the police department. ’ ‘ 70′s and 80′s police were always just like, ‘oh, you murdered someone? you got forty bucks?’ ’ ‘ great! what else do you want?! i murdered people for you! and now… what? ’ ‘ oh, so i’m the psycho cause i murdered for you!? ’ ‘ what, the police were just writing fan fiction? ’ ‘ this is just baffling to me. ’ ‘ i guess that’s their job, but can you imagine how much goddamn paperwork is involved in that? so much! ’ ‘ i’m pretty sure we’re being watched, so i kind of wanna leave, to be honest. ’ ‘ i’ve had enough of this place and i haven’t even been here that long. i hate this place. ’ ‘ this boogeyman is very thorough. ’ ‘ i guess we’re lucky he got lazy. ’ ‘ the greatest safety precautions of our time are written in blood. ’ ‘ i think they’re tired of this ongoing saga that never ends. ’ ‘ you know, i actually disagree with that last sentiment. ’ ‘ this is like straight-up end of days shit going on. ’ ‘ this could’ve been the beginning of the zombie apocalypse, in my mind. ’ ‘ i’ve daydreamed about having an amazing bunker that has satellite tv. ’ ‘ ‘bad advil’ sounds like a shitty indie band. ’ ‘ the wild west was the 80′s. ’ ‘ in the 80′s you could walk in a store, pocket a soda, punch a guy in the face, and then be like ‘see ya later. fuck you!’ cops wouldn’t get to your door for weeks. ’ ‘ he had books that were just titled ‘how to crime’? if he had a book called ‘how to crime’ then there’s your guy. ’ ‘ oh, yeah… nah, i’m good. eh, bit of a reach. ’ ‘ some old lady in florida bought the unabomber’s typewriter? ’ ‘ maybe this guy was really in the dog house and was just desperate for any kind of turn of affection from her so he thought, ‘i know that i’ll do! i’ll write the fbi!’ ’ ‘ no, i didn’t– what, is there anything to suggest that i would chase my mom with an axe? ’ ‘ i think you wear a mask sometimes. ’ ‘ maybe you should keep digging and see what happens. ’ ‘ these are two messed up weirdos who have found each other and it’s almost a shockingly beautiful love story. ’ ‘ i don’t get it. i just wanna talk about my work and everyone just keeps seeming to bring up all my past of all the shitty stuff i’ve done. ’ ‘ ugh, this guy’s gross. ’ ‘ it must’ve been fun to be a criminal in the 80′s. ’ ‘ everything before the 80′s – just lawless. ’ ‘ get your sunglasses ready because this one is packed full of bright stars. ’ ‘ i’m good to go. i’m always ready, baby! ’ ‘ it came true so she was actually warranted in all these fears. ’ ‘ this would be like if you were eaten by a shark. ’ ‘ i thought for a second we were talking about things that are actually scary. ’ ‘ i’m gonna let this slide because i know you’re just trying to get a rise out of me. ’ ‘ does that man have a magical penis or something? ’ ‘ you think the only reason someone would go back to someone is because they have a magical penis? ’ ‘ i feel like divorce is probably a lot of work. ’ ‘ do you not know how love works? ’ ‘ maybe i don’t know how love works. ’ ‘ i have a hard time imagining someone going gaga over christopher walken. ’ ‘ i bet when you get in a room with christopher walken, he commands the space. ’ ‘ i brought some cocktail weenies. ’ ‘ one of my greatest fears is that someone will trick me into doing heroin. ’ ‘ that’s the dumbest fear i’ve ever heard in my life. ’ ‘ how many situations can you be in that would put you up to that potential danger? ’ ‘ how many parties are you going to where heroin’s involved? it seems like a lot. ’ ‘ it’s the fear that someone would come up to me on the street and put heroin in me and then i’m hooked forever. ’ ‘ here’s what must’ve happened… these forty things, in succession. ’ ‘ what are you trying to do, fuck my wife? ’ ‘ why would he make this up? ’ ‘ he– he was just trying to fuck someones wife. ’ ‘ i can’t imagine murdering someone even when drunk. ’ ‘ when you drink you can imagine murdering someone?! ’ ‘ i ate a pumpkin once when i was drunk… i just took a bite out of a pumpkin. ’ ‘ that’s a rational fear! ’ ‘ that is not a rational fear! ’ ‘ these are the musings of a paranoid man. ’

There’s a beauty behind cinema. A beauty that was almost too complex to explain without getting incredibly infatuated with what you’re talking about and not knowing what you’re even talking about anymore. The elegance of a camera sweeping down a street and capturing kids riding around on bicycles or the grittiness of a completely still shot of a mother downing her 5th beer of the night with tears rolling down her stained cheeks or a frantically panicked shot of a teenage girl running from a masked killer for no logical reason was what always attracted JJ to films. The change in temperature and change of color in the leaves only meant one thing to the town; Halloween was coming. Classic and icon horror and thriller movies played at the local Art Theater in town, the stores all put decorations in their windows, the local schools would put up pumpkins outside their front doors, and Town Hall would cast an orange light on the building at night and feature a very fake looking but giant spider on the roof. It was one of JJ’s favorite time of year. He was one of the few men in town that would admit that they loved Pumpkin Spice Lattes and cinnamon apple cookies. It almost felt like a guilty pleasure, but JJ knew that he wasn’t guilty in the slightest. The taste bringing him back to when he was a child and his mother would bake Pumpkin Pie almost every other day for when his Dad got off work and the family would go to his grandparents house. The memories always filling his heart with that brief feeling of satisfaction only to be reminded that times are very different one of his grandparents isn’t with him anymore.
After spending what felt like an eternity trying to figure what movie he wanted to watch, he realized the one movie he had the urge to watch - he didn’t even own. Which meant that he had to go up to the local video store. JJ loved going up there though. The employees knew him by name and almost always put aside any used special editions they had just in case he wanted them. This time, he wanted to pick up a horror movie. Not just any horror movie, he wanted to watch the Nightmare on Elm Street series. He only owned the original one though. The only way to binge a series was to watch all of them. Quality of film was always an issue for JJ. As he grew older, he became harder to please and impress. However, he knew that the Nightmare series lost its quality as the films progressed. Planning on a marathon, he left his hosue and walked up to the video store. Thankfully it was right down the street. A quick 10 minute walk was all that it took from getting to point A from point B.
A bell rang as he walked into the store. “Hey JJ! We got some new arrivals in today! A special edition of Zombieland!” The store clerk informed him as he stepped inside.
“Thanks, man. You can keep that one this time around. I’m looking for something else today.”
“Well, you know where everything is so help yourself.” The employee replied with a smile as he bent down to pull out the movie they had held for JJ.
JJ made his way over the horror section, hoping to find the other films he was looking for. Preferrably on Blu-Ray because it always had way better quality in both picture and sound.
Emma felt disgusted with herself. For the first time in almost six years, she had fallen for a guy that would never give her a second look. Over and over, she had tried to teach herself to find a guy that was different from the rest of them. It had all started with Brian, he had melted her heart and charmed his way into her bed when she was only fifteen and he was sixteen. The next one was Drew, a man that would always have a piece of her heart, even if he shattered it over and over and over again. Then Chase, the boy who punched Drew and proved that going for a sweet and innocent looking guy isn’t always the best choice. Ryan, the one who swept her off her feet and then dropped her like a porcelain doll. And Ethan, the older man who had always managed to find his way back into her life. This time was no different. Walking the walk of shame down the street, heels clanking against the sidewalk, a sequin dress from the night before shining brightly in the cheerful sun. She was disgusting.
Her dark hair fell in front of her face, the video store in front of her. As she made her way inside, she felt the eyes turn in her direction. Whispers, tacky comments and eye rolls. She had been the princess for so long, now someone else had earned the titled. Her father, step-father James Mason had been the dean of students at Carolina Springs during her entire high school career. Her step-brother Scott, the king of everything had gotten a girl pregnant. Naturally, Emma stepped in to be the decent daughter — cheerleading, good grades, prim and proper appearance. But it would never be enough. “Hey man, we went to school together, didn’t we?”

Six years ago, nothing in the world mattered to Stella except for Drew Rogers. A senior in high school that had fallen in love with a junior in high school. The prim and proper straight A student had fallen for a dirtbag that looked like he belonged in an alternative band from the 1980s — but he was hers. Keyword was. Stella graduated and never looked back at Carolina Springs. The school had given her so much grief, so much pain, and so much love. Drew never understood that Stella wanted more out of life than parties and weekend getaways that resulted in hangovers from hell. She wanted to be a journalist in New York City, living in a flat with exposed brick and a little fire escape like Holly Golighty.
She had finally gotten her exposed brick, her cat, and the flat of her dreams but she was still so lonely without him. Nights were spent restless, an aching in her heart that hadn’t went away for six years.
It wasn’t what she had ever wanted.
North Carolina had been her home for four years. Her sister Gwen and step-sister Brooke graduated the year after her with Drew. Keeping her informed on what he had done or who he had done rather.
Being back home felt right. She just needed to see a familiar face.

— ❛ play the movie already, annie ! i'm ready to see channing half naked and fully cocked and loaded. ❜ april sipped on her hot tea with lemon and smirked, getting situated on her leather couch. she had always loved nights in with her best friend. ❛ i know it's sunday and all but, let's be real, who doesn't lust on the lord's day really. ❜ it had been a stressful week and april had looked forward to this moment for days. her feet ached, her eyes were red and her heart wasn't ready for another week of small children bossing her around.
DREW.
“oh no, it’s me. alert the fucking press.” annoyance echoed in his monotone voice. “well unless justin doesn’t show, i doubt you’ll be meeting up with brooke. as for emma? i didn’t even realize she was still around here. damn, what a waste of pure unspoiled spirit.” the moment the small red head gestured for him to take her hand, drew swallowed hard and placed his hand in hers. “living the american dream, aren’t we?”
— “we’re only living one life, might as well make it memorable, baby.” entering the gymnasium of carolina springs academy felt like a flashback, a war flashback. with drew by her side, everything felt ODD. like a fever dream that she didn’t want to wake up from. “oh look, there’s ophelia carmine, hm. wow, look at dan brooks, he sure did get fat and it’s only been a few years. jesus christ, what did marisol do to her hair.” stella knew deep down inside that drew didn’t care about how much some of their classmates had changed. in fact, she remembered time and time again that nobody cared for her commentary. “at least we still look decent.”
lcserisms:
’ are you fucking kidding me right now ? ‘ jackson felt rage boiling inside him. he had spent the entire day with his family, a collection of people who he HATED and WISHED would leave him alone. it had been years since he felt like he belonged with his family. ‘ this place is a fucking nightmare, just let me go. ‘ a whisper that roared loud enough for his father to hear him. a drunk man with rage in his eyes and fire in his over sized belly. ‘ dad ! i’m going out, leave me the fuck alone. ‘ he gave his father a smirk and slammed the door, heading toward his car. an old beater that had been handed down from cambridge to cambridge. dialing his brother’s number, he pushed the cell phone between his collarbone and ear. ‘ hey, you busy ? i gotta get the fuck away from dad. ‘
— justin had managed to move out on his own, hiding away from his past. a life of broken beer bottles and arguments that left him shattered and often bruised. he had wanted to take his brother with him, but he hadn’t. he felt bad, he felt horrible every day for it. “hey bub, i’m fixing to leave work. what did the fuckhead do this time?” their father had been the major reason that justin had lost brooke, the one person that kept him sane during high school and held him when he finally broke. “listen, if you still have the spare key to my apartment, you can go ahead and chill for a bit. i’ll pick up some beer and pizza. sound good?”

DREW.
carolina springs had been a sanctuary for drew rogers — a place that kept him safe and kept him away from his father’s anger and his mother’s intoxicated dread. the halls were the same, time had stopped after graduation. he was supposed to meet up with her older friends, percy and justin — two guys who had graduated before him, but still treated him like he was the best fucking friend in the world to them. seeing her, the one person that had never let him down made his entire world spin. his chest began to ache for something that he would never have again. he had fucked it up. she had seen the side of him that had a spot reserved in hell. “hey, uh.. glad i’m not the only person that decided to show up for this shindig.”
— his voice sent shivers down her spine. “oh, it’s you.” her entire world had changed in one semester all because of him, drew rogers. the boy with a manic laugh and dark mysterious eyes that kept her begging for more, intoxicated on the border of love and lust. he wasn’t the most attractive, the brightest, or the richest, but for a split second - he was hers. “i thought i would be meeting up with brooke or emma, didn’t realize you were, uh, invited.” she knew he had been, she had sent the invitation on facebook herself. smoothing her green plaid skirt and giving her best fake grin, stella stuck a hand out and gestured for drew to take it. “might as well go inside the gym and pretend to be happy, right?”
(( for my hunny @dreadsouls ))
— stella had dreaded this moment for quite some time. a reunion, a cliche get together for fake friends and enemies. carolina springs academy had been the highlight and the lowest of lights in stella’s life. she had graduated only two years prior, but it felt like a million years in her heart and in her head. she was unaware if she would see her old friends, so-called friends. her little sister gwen had been missing in action for days, which stella knew deep down in her soul that her sister was hiding from her ex-boyfriend, a mere mortal who gwen assumed was GOD. freshly showered, nails painted blood red, and hair curled to perfection. estella tristan wilson was ready for anything that came her way.
