thank you! i don't think i can say something new about it, because i used to do the same, especially with classic art being mostly oil art and realistic painting. what helped me is my professor's phrase - there're painters and graphic artists. you just got to figure out what appeals to you more, and focus on that - whether you're more a shapebuilder and prefer mixing colors and work with values, or you'd rather work with lineart, composition and be bit more experimental i'd lie if i said i don't sometimes envy artists who're good with rendering, but it doesn't mean i don't find joy in line/flatcolor works. i'd suggest to find what inspires you most, observe it and remind yourself that simple color and lines can be just as expressive personally i always find inspiration in modern/art nouveau works, especially posters - whether it's ads, theater or something else. take notes on art of 20th century and observe works of artists you admire, including animation and comics since they often use cel shading too here's a bunch of examples, and an animation short i love a lot (as well as works of its creators) SUNDOWN - Animation Short Film 2020 - GOBELINS
