Grace waking up from the coma was the first shot they filmed for the movie! They wanted Ryan to feel eased into the character, and what better way to do that than have him play a character who can't remember who he is?

The little "GOOD LUCK!" note in sharpie that's written on Grace's sleeping bag was canonically written by the other astronauts on the I.S.S. before the Hail Mary crew got put into the ship. In real life, Phil and Chris wrote one word each. They said it was like "a blessing on the movie."

Ryan's most nerve-wracking day on set was when he had to shoot with the classroom full of children. Most of the kids were made up of the children of the film's crew members.

The scene where Grace looks through Yao and Ilukhina's photos is footage of him looking at and reacting to actual pictures of the actors with their loved ones.

When Grace calls Stratt to tell her that he and Carl figured out how to breed astrophage, Ryan is genuinely calling Sandra on her day off set, and her audio is her genuine reaction to the unexpected line: "Carl and I made a baby!"

"We like showcasing Ryland Grace's social anxiety while having a lot of people staring at him. LOL!"

Their intention for the space funeral scene was to have Grace convey that he was trying to ease his own sadness by making the dead people with him feel better about being dead :(

The markings on Rocky's body convey his mission patch, his rank in the crew, his wedding band, and his family crest.

Grace and Stratt's conversation on the boat is Grace asking her if they're allowed to be close friends, and the response from Stratt is no, they can't. This gets driven home in the karaoke scene. She understands the value of connection, a part of her wants it, but "Her love for people has to be suspended for her to do her job."

Rocky has different forward-facing faces for different thought processes! They named his "satellite dish" face, his "scrunched up thinking face", and his "monobrow face".

Direct quote: "I love how on the spectrum Rocky is." ROCKY AUTISTIC CODED CONFIRMED!

After Rocky recovers from his injuries: "As Rocky returns to the movie, the lights turn on. The warmth returns. It's like the day breaking."

Confirmed that when Grace and Rocky reunite, Rocky says to Grace, "You came back for me, question?"

They throw this out there for two seconds and do NOT expand on it, but according to Andy Weir, Stratt is imprisoned for life but somehow ESCAPES???

The Eridians built Grace an artificial tree in his enclosure because Rocky knew he liked trees

you can never get a clear listen to him. his primary sense node is covered in "hair" and the part that isn't is hidden by two crystals that refract sound waves in a pleasing but disorienting way. he covers his body in billowy cloth at all times. not snug and sensible and unobstructive like eridian coverings, but loose and layered, draped and flowing.

the most clear part of him are his internal organs. because yes, the alien's carapace isn't sound-proof. his single heart beats insistingly in his core, his lungs exchanging gas constantly, his long digestive tract always bubbling and contracting. his thorax is packed impossibly tight and it's all moving and singing.

and it shouldn't be possible, with how fragile he is, for that internal pressure to maintain. how does the thin membrane of his external organ (another horror that sends eridians reeling) keep it all contained? his "skin" is so easily pierced, cut, bruised, burnt, how does he not split open under his own mass?

when savior rocky first arrived home and described the environmental needs of his alien, the scientists thought he'd made a mistake in his frantic panic to get everything out. it isn't possible this being lives at such low atmospheric pressure, at half the gravity, and in a gas that's nearly double the weight of ammonia. in a gas so dangerous, so caustic. and if it does then how is it obligately terrestrial like rocky claims? shouldn't it fly or float instead? (and then to see it in the water, learning that it can float or sink at will.)

and this alien has come bearing gifts that will not only save your species but launch it into impossible heights of technological and intellectual advancement. he has discovered the solution to astrophage and bred it to thrive on threeworld and translated his instructions into eridian. he has given your people the complete sum of his people's knowledge, advanced in ways the eridians can't believe and behind in ways that seem ludicrous. and he has given his life for your people to have these things.

he knows how your solar system was formed. he knows how the universe started.

his name means beautiful and generous and relieving.

He doesn't want to go home today...

He's pretty sure he'll be greated by questions or not at all it was a 50/50 plus he just finished a hectic shift with 3 emergencies! Three! He almost got hurt by an anomaly because he was too busy on the heart monitor, thankfully agent was nearby and checking each room since some anomalies tend to slip sometimes.

He really wants coffee.

Unfortunate head nurse and even secretary started to work on the other patient which left him with room 8,god he always hated doing surgery. Not only was it nerve racking the timer wasn't comforting, not one bit.

They really need to change the container for antibiotics, he almost always give that instead of medicine or vice versa.

He REALLY wants coffee...

It didn't help that the others were slowly picking off on what's happening in the hospital, as much as he favors Matthew (ratthew) he is really coming close to revealing all the secrets...

And Barney coming in using his charm to get more coffee from him... He really needs to get out of the front desk whenever that happens...nevermind he's sure that guy waits for him specifically to be in front desk duty before coming in...

He REALLY REALLY wants a coffee...

After his shift was over he yawned and wore his mask as agent gave him a quick Pat on the back, reassuring him that they can handle the rest of the night.

He got his bag and start walking on the streets something he has grown used to in years as his family doesn't even remember dropping and picking him up, so he developed self defense because he's been in some situations where he couldn't do anything but that is where his speed comes in handy since he mostly run away when he manages to trick them which causes agent to teach him after the 3rd time it happened...

He needs coffee...

He reached the looming mansion as he sighs and went in, it was always between 12 or early morning (1-3am) whenever he got home, so he taught that no one will be awake or they're all on patrol since that's been the chance everytime...

He slowly enter the mansion quickly going back to the quiet east wing where he lived in silence for years.

Before he could go someone put their hands on his shoulder making him jump and quickly twist the person's hand and jump away.

He looked behind him and paled...

Shit.

He should've gotten coffee...

They've been waiting for hours...

They weren't entirely sure when name will come back since the papers only said that he does night shifts and no extra information...

Once they heard the gate open slowly they realize that this must be name, most bats would enter through the Batcave after patrol and no one else would be going out with Alfred at a time like this...

They waited till the front door open and then there they saw name in their nurse uniform and looking extremely tired.

Name didn't even stop to go to the kitchen as they saw him immediately turn their body to the east wing... So that's where he stays at... They barely even go there...

"I'll go great him-"

He didn't think that name, someone who work as a nurse or whatever role he has in the hospital would be able to hurt dick by sheer strength! Even he can't do that! Maybe because it was too fast and sudden?

Alfred should be still awake right? They should ask help first before going back to trying to talk to name...

He slowly give the patient the medicine band help them lay done to rest then he stood and left to head back to the front.

Today was supposed to he him, nurse, surgeon, and security.

So he was unfortunately going back and forth from the front to the rooms which was a total drag.

He sigh as he open the door and wait till the next one arrived since nurse was handling 2 other patients right now and surgeon is busy with surgery. (Duh)

He sighs as he hears the bell and he looked up his eyes immediately recognized the brown coat and mustache.

"Hello Barney."

"Hello friend! May I perhaps ask for a coffee?"

He already had fetched one before he could finish.

"Here."

"Thank you friend! You're always so nice!"

He smiled at Barney as he sip the coffee in one big gulp before leaving.

Same old same old.

"Hey intern you doing good?"

Security walked in as he checked for coffee

"Did an anomaly passed by? I'm sorry about that..."

"Pish no worries intern, you're the only one here that works everyday, I won't be too mad instead I'm worried. You're taking breaks in the morning yeah?"

He smiled... He's glad that at least in the hospital he was cared for.

"Yeah... I am... Don't worry much"

"It feels like yesterday when you first were an intern.."

"That was 2 years ago..."

"And yet we still call you intern! you're just too adorable sometimes"

Security laughed as he finally got his coffee

"I'll going to the halls just call me if an anomaly is at front causing trouble"

He really liked it here... Everyone was like family they've known each other for years now and he wasn't afraid to admit that the hospital was his home.

More than a home than the mansion.

This was his family.

Rocky can be an asshole (affectionate) at times, but I think he knows when not to push certain subjects. Grace doesn't make light of anything to do with radiation around Rocky, Rocky respects Grace's complicated feelings about the whole kidnapping thing. It's what friends are for.

I do, however, think that Rocky would be fucking merciless about ragging Grace for the whole 'didn't realise he was second in command' thing.

I mean, originally when Grace tells him that, I think Rocky would accept it. Rocky knows basically nothing about human social structures, after all, and absolutely nothing about the hierarchy of the Petrova Task Force. Maybe it's normal for people's exact positions in human hierarchies to be somewhat ambiguous. Maybe there were multiple second in commands so it was easy for Grace to not realise he was special. Rocky doesn't know.

Then, over time and the journey to Erid, more stories start to emerge and… wait, why was Grace at the copyright court case thing? What does Grace mean, Stratt just took him everywhere, question?

Huh, Grace was also in charge of helping the crew choose their suicide plans? And trained alongside them every step of the way?

Grace had an office on the Vat. Grace was responsible for most of the science team and was present for every important new hire's first interview.

Grace was part of the decision to PAVE HIS PLANET'S DESERTS AND USE RADIATION ENERGY WEAPONS TO DESTROY THE POLAR ICE CAPS??? And yeah, the explanation of what nuclear weapons are is not a fun discussion for either of them.

Oh and even less fun discussion: Grace was the one who ultimately persuaded Stratt to put the crew into comas for the journey.

(This reveal causes one of their few major fights on the way to Erid, because Rocky is not a fan of things that put Grace at risk or of forced, unobserved sleep in general, and because Grace is very defensive and guilty about making a decision that killed two of his close friends. Lots of yelling and subsequent sulking at opposite ends of the ship ensues.)

But yeah, Rocky is starting to doubt Grace's reliability as a narrator, statement. And Rocky is going to express this doubt loudly and frequently whenever Grace mentions his surprise at being second in command on the Task Force, because that is also what friends are for.

When they get to Erid, and Grace is inevitably a part of multiple projects, both to support his own survival on Erid and to improve Eridian science, Rocky is going to pointedly ask Grace if he's sure he's aware of exactly how important he is to these projects, as the only alien on Erid.

Would Grace like Rocky to ask the head of the science thrum to clarify Grace's exact place in the hierarchy again, statement?

Would Grace like Rocky to make him a badge with that information on it, question, to aid his weak human memory?

Rocky can probably manufacture some version of a human marker pen should Grace want to write the info on his hand. Wouldn't want any confusion there.

He loves his coworkers, they were like the family they were desperate of...

Paramedic was like grayson, The brother that welcomes and strives to be the best to each sibling...

Security was like jason, someone that had experience and wish to protect everyone else...

Everything was normal. Some Crime happened he dealt with it, helped old lady walk across the road, help the kids, and stop another rouge on attacking the city until he stumbles upon a person desperately trying to fight off... A meta? Was that even a meta?

He quickly dash over to the scene and helped the citizen before kicking the meta(?) Away before he could deal another punch or kick the meta ran away with a surprising speed, he didn't follow since there was an injured citizen crying in pain right behind him, at first he hesitated as he saw the green blood? Drop from the massive injury.

He wasn't sure what to do since this was an unknown liquid.

"Hey friend, I suggest you bring them to Dr. Harlow's hospital. He and his employees have delt with injuries like that"

A stranger wearing a brown coat and hat suddenly said as he walked up to him

"It's right up at that road, good luck friend"

The stranger continued as he walked pass him, he was a bit suspicious but he didn't have enough time. He quickly picked up the injured citizen and use his grappling hook to swing his way to the hospital.

When he arrived there he immediately opened the front doors, the hospital was oddly silent... Maybe because it was night time? He wasn't sure as he immediately went to the front desk.

"Uh hi- I heard you delt with this kind of stuff-"

"Oh yeah.... INTERN!"

The person behind the desk looked like they don't give a shit as they casual nod and yelled for someone.

"Coming-"

He turned his head as his eyes met with the person as they stopped.

He looked... Familiar.

"Ah... Let me handle it sir"

The intern said as he took the injured citizen from him and walked to the halls then to a room...

"Uhm hey do you perhaps know his name-"

"Classified, if you're not injured or a family member get going"

He flashed his usual cheerful smile which earned a groan from the guy behind the desk as he left and grappled away.

That intern guy.... He looked really familiar...

When he arrived back at the manor he walked up to Tim and turn his chair around.

"Heeeey timbers mind doing me a favor?"

He smiled at his brother's moody behavior as he stood close.

"Can you go through this hospital's records?"

"Why?"

He told him about Dr. Harlow's Hospital and why he wanted to check it.

"There's someone there that looked familiar but I don't know why though"

Tim quickly went to the hospitals record and employees.

"You okay/need coffee?"

Both agent and secretary said as they saw him enter.

"Yes and please"

"Shouldn't he control his breathing first? He just got an anxiety attack"

"Coffee heals that"

Agent couldn't with these two as he let secretary give him the coffee.

"Thanks..."

"So who was that?"

He paused as he thinks about sharing his uhm family.

"He is uh... A brother"

"Why did he look surprised though? Didn't tell him you have a job?"

Secretary being a gossip immediately asked as he sip his own coffee.

"Kinda? I think he's just surprised that he recognized me..."

He said as he sat down and let out a sigh while agent walks close and rub his shoulders

They remain in silence as the others process what he said.

"So that's why you're always on shift besides being workaholic..."

They felt like they shouldn't be here...

Their family seemed to forget about them over time which made them a bit lonely and angry, they thought that they would've been apart of the family for some months... They didn't expect it to only last two months... That got them a bit pissed off...

At least Alfred pay them some small attention..

Due to this, they tend to go to the garden that anyone barely comes to since it was a bit far from the mansion.

At first the garden looked ruined...the Flowers barely had any petals left, thankfully they had a bunch of seeds of their favorite flower since before Bruce ever found them, he lived in an orphanage where that flower thrived on the hill right besides them.

They wished they stayed there instead.

When time passed, the garden eventually became a sea of purple flowers which are their favorite nightshades.

While attending their garden they spotted someone in the forest, it probably wasn't a good idea but they decided to follow the person.

When they finally managed to catch up they immediately ranted that this was private property and why was the person in the forest anyway!

At first the person was startled and thought they were a beast but soon realized it was a human!

They soon noticed that the person was injured and figured it's probably... Their fault...

So in their guilt they brought the person you thwir garden and tend their injuries.

While treating the person, they introduced themselves as two time and they told them their own name.

They didn't mind two time well except for the constant babble something about the spawn.

At first when they brought up that they should join they didn't think much of it so they said yes which made two time beam and drag them inside the forest till they reach a place that looked like a village...

Overtime they found friendship and... Something more with two time as they filled the void left by their family.

But good things never seemed to last...

They should've known that the symbols around the village ment something.

Or else they wouldn't be bleeding in the garden they onece adored and cherished while looking up at the love of his life.

He teared up and looked at the other body. He doesn't recognize them but he could tell that the child also suffered.

He touch name's face and held them close.

He shall deliver the news... After he grieves

Regret filled them...

They wished they didn't do it.

They love name. Truly they do. They were the only one that felt real for them.

They can understand that name will be angry.
