Grace recovering that last memory, of his cowardice and selfishness and pain, and deciding he Doesn't Want To Know More actually and almost completely aborting his attempts to get his memory back. He erases all the boards after turning them into viscious self critiques, he drops the cardigan into storage, starts wearing his crewmates' clothes again because he swears that all of his own have suddenly start to trigger that disorienting feeling of an oncoming flashback. He's ok with this. He knows who he was and he can be a different person now. He is a different person now, he's been factory reset and that's starting to seem like less and less of a bad thing. So what if he was a bad person on Earth? So what if he thinks back on who he was with shame and guilt and loathing? That's not him anymore. He can make it not him anymore. And the only other living being for lightyears doesn't know anything but what Grace has told him.

Been absolutely enthralled recently by the idea of the nannybot's medical care getting significantly worse after the beetles launch. Because ofc it still works, Stratt wouldn't want her astronauts to suffer needlessly, but it would also be deeply counterproductive to have it attempt to stop their suicides so, logically, if it determines that a crew member is dying or engaging in self destructive behaviour, it wouldn't step in unless explicitly directed to. If fact, it would very likely offer to speed up the process, either by direction to the designated methods aboard or by medical alternatives; even before Grace's last minute placement, there would always have been backup options if someone's method ended up not working or of they no longer wanted to use it. It's all very clean, honestly, let it never be said that the suicide part of this mission was disregarded.

Thinking about Eridian trauma again and I had an idea. Judging by Rocky's... well, everything: paranoia, compulsion, hyper-alertness and rumination are all commonly developed subconscious stress responses to past threats, by both humans and eridians alike.
