its a little comical that in the project hail mary movie, Yáo and Ilyukhina have completely meaningless deaths. like they were willing to die to save humanity but because they died in the transportation stage they contribute literally nothing to all the actual 'saving the world' stuff...and because the world still gets saved it means their sacrifice was unnecessary.
honestly the memorial stuff for every astronaut who isn't grace is going to be really awkward bc they all died and none of them helped solve the problem. sorry to both initial scientists who did not even make it into the rocketship and died tragically young. sorry to the engineer and pilot who ended up dying before the actual mission started in their sleep. thank you all for your noble sacrifices that amounted to nothing and were ultimately unneeded. its cool, that one guy and his alien bestie figured it out
