Yesterday I listened to the Norwegian podcast Harm & Hegseth, which is an entertainment podcast, mostly about both Norwegian and international celebrities. But they also talk a lot about SKAM, especially this last season, and yesterday Tore Petterson was on it as a guest/substitute for Vegard Harm (one of the regular hosts) and he ended up talking a bit about SKAM and Tarjei and Henrik.
Basically, he helped Tarjei and Henrik with their portrayals of Isak and Even, by talking to them about his own story, talking through feelings and reactions in different situations, and answering questions they might have.
I just find this endlessly fascinating - we already know that the entire premise of the show is based on interviews with teens from all over Norway, that Julie has done interviews with the cast about what they think about their characters, and that the response from the fans might influence decisions they make. Also this article talks bout Geir Helge Roaas (child- and youth psychiatrist, who has worked with LGBT-youth for years) and how he contacted NRK when Isak was announced as the main, and was then invited by Julie to a meeting, and ended up being credited in every episode of s3, presumably for advising her on some aspects of the series (he mentioned the clip Pride, for instance). And in addition to getting advice on how to write the season, she makes sure that the two main actors also get to do their own research to help them understand their characters as well as they possibly can!! I just think this is so admirable - she really takes this job seriously. It’s so apparent that the goal here is not to make money or gain a massive following, but to help the target audience.
