Signs

They were wrong.

I may have fallen to my knees and been down, but that doesn’t define me.

No, I’m never going to be that person that stays down.

I’m stronger and braver than that.

Everyone praised me to my face but then tried to keep me from soaring high.

I don’t care why, but no one is going to stop me from becoming who and what I’m supposed to be.

I’m beautifully broken, soulfully deep with a loving heart and no one is going to change that about me.

I’ve had some rough times and I’ve been down the wrong roads, but I chose to keep going..

I decided I would keep showing up, stepping up and standing up for myself and what I want.

Sure, I still have bad days where I don’t have it together and maybe cry in the shower, but I keep going.

I’m more than a survivor, I’m a warrior.

The fires that tried to consume me in failure forged my unbreakable spirit that has picked me up so many times when I thought I couldn’t go on.

I fought, clawed and dug my way out of the bad stuff to find the light again, and it was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done.

I got to a point where just existing and surviving weren’t enough anymore.

I needed wings, so I went to find them..

It wasn’t easy learning how to fly when you’ve always just gotten by..

But I wanted more and I still do.

Maybe I won’t get where I want to be today, tomorrow or next week,

but I’ll get there.

Nothing and no one can stop me from taking back my happiness and joy now.

So, let them try to condemn me for the beautiful wings I found in the tragedy of my worst times...

I’ll just smile, wink and keep flying high.
