I think the first few times he tries it he's a little too focused on the "be good and be still" side of things he winds himself up. Tries not to squirm so badly he forgets to sink into it, so lasered in on looking up with big eyes he can feel are dampening his eyelashes that the entire point of this exercise goes over his head. Just sits there being so intentionally calm with his breathing that he's not calm in the slightest.
His partner does notice, though. Of course. Hard not to notice that Langdon's clearly not relaxing into anything. All it takes is a little encouragement, some petting over his head, brushing a hand over his cheek, resting a palm on the back of his neck. Little reminders of both a slight possessiveness but also I got you, trust me.
