Kurt’s world changed when his mom died. His mom was the only one who understood him and supported his likes and interests. She helped him create outfits for his stuffed animals and his action figures, she sang and danced along with him to musicals. She was his best friend. At first, Kurt cried himself to sleep every night, missing his mother. He started to sleepwalk and had trouble staying awake at school, so he started seeing a therapist, which helped process his grief. She suggested that he sign up for the local cooking classes, and Kurt soon fell in love with cooking. He had baked here and there with his mom. He found cooking soothing and comforting. He started cooking for his family, since his dad could barely cook. It helped take his mind off his pain.
Growing up, Kurt wasn’t like the other boys. He hated messes, and would much rather play house with the girls in his class or play on the swings than play football or soccer. He came out to his dad in high school, who accepted him with loving arms. He was bullied throughout middle school and high school for being openly gay and his bold outfit choices. He counted down the days until he could graduate. He had a hard time leaving his siblings and dad at home, but he called them once a week to check in.
While in college at NYU, Kurt majored in theatre. He was pretty active, joining clubs like fashion club, and was apart of the theatre community. He loved acting and preforming. During his sophomore year of college, he met Steven. The two quickly fell in love. Like most theatre group romances, the two had a very messy break up. Steven was an attention hog, and told everyone that Kurt had cheated on him, when he had not. His friends dropped him. Kurt fell into a depression and soon faced being kicked out. With encouragement from his dad to try again, Kurt changed his major and got into the culinary program. He found new friends. While he missed preforming, he still had cooking as an outlet for his creative side.
After college, he worked in a French restaurant. Over the years, he worked his way up from sous chef to one of the head cooks. He loved his job, he had a group of friends, and was even dabbling in community theatre. That is, until the world went up in flames. His beloved restaurant that he worked at, went under and he struggled to find a job. He had to move back in with his dad. He was nervous about spending time on a cruise. What would he do without his large closet, so much sun and his beautiful kitchen?. Maybe Sue isn’t as crazy as she seems.
