Aidy Bryant is done with having to beg designers to dress her curvy figure

Saturday Night Live cast member Aidy Bryant didn’t don a gown by a designer known the world over at the Emmys. Instead she went with a short, flowery, sheer black dress designed by plus-size brand Eloquii. Speaking out about plus-size clothing, Bryant named two things she hates about it.

People are using MLK Jr. to silence black protesters — but they’re forgetting something important

On Tuesday night, protests erupted in Charlotte, North Carolina, following the police shooting of Keith Lamont Scott, a black man who authorities said had a firearm. Hundreds of protesters congregated in the streets calling for justice for Scott, who his sister maintained was unarmed.

Many Twitter users brought up King in order to decry current protests. But critics of the modern-day movement for black lives seem to suffer from historical amnesia when it comes to King’s legacy and the measures others fighting for justice had to take to produce radical change.

There’s a history, of course, of people misrepresenting King and what he stood for. In 2016, King remains best remembered for his “I Have a Dream” speech, where he expresses his oft-quoted hope that one day his children will no longer judged by the “color of their skin but by the content of their character.” Typically forgotten are King’s less digestible truths such as his views on capitalism.
