Hello everyone! I decided to make a short post where I address different misconceptions about astrology or astrological beliefs

Truth be told I believed in the majority of the misconceptions in here, until I eventually expanded my knowledge on Hellenistic astrology and decided to "redeem" myself by making this post in order to help others understand astrology more accurately. I hope you enjoy this post!

♡︎. "THE 8TH HOUSE REPRESENTS SEXUAL RELATIONSHIPS"

A classic misconception that constantly circles around astrology spaces. For the majority of time the 8th house was never associated with sexual encounters. The 8th house represents shared resources, inheritance, taxes, debt, loss and death itself. Notice how it doesn't mention sex anywhere in it's traditional interpretation? This misconception got popularized when the 8th house started to be associated with Scorpio/Pluto (which mind you these two are also not traditionally associated with sexual encounters). If you want to know the house and the planet that genuinely represent sexuality and sexual encounters, then you will need to look at the 5th house and Venus

♡︎. "HOUSES ARE CORRELATED TO SIGNS"

If you don't know what I'm referring to, it's basically the concept that "Aries governs over the 1st house, Taurus governs over the 2nd house etc." This misconception is probably something that a lot of us fell for because modern astrology (aka the system that a good amount of people started from) is mapped by this belief, but once you get into traditional astrology you realize just how invalid this theory is.

A good way for you to detach from this theory is to learn the traditional meaning of each house and perhaps even learn about planetary joys so that you can build a better understanding on how houses work in astrology

♡︎. "UNION (1585) REPRESENTS MARRIAGE / MONY (7782) REPRESENTS MONEY / ETC."

For me personally asteroids no longer pique my interest, but if I do use them then I'm very picky with what asteroids I choose. In fact, I believe that everyone should be picky with the asteroids that they choose and everyone should research an asteroid's name before assiging a meaning to it

Union is constantly seen as an asteroid that represents marriage or soulmate connections because the word "union" itself can be seen in a romantic light, but the reason behind this asteroid's name is not a romantic one. The asteroid was named after the Union Observatory, not after a philosophical idea of love. In my opinion assiging this asteroid to love is quite silly

Another popular example is asteroid Mony. Everyone think that this asteroid is related to Money due the fact that these two terms are similar, but the truth is that this asteroid was named in honour of Monica De Magistris (for context Mony is a common nickname for people that are named Monica). With all due respect, assigning money to this asteroid knowing that its name is supposed to be a tribute is straight up stupid

What I'm trying to say is that people should use asteroids with discernment and research the meaning behind their names first

♡︎. "THE 12TH HOUSE REPRESENTS SPIRITUALITY"

Spoilers: it does not. The 12th house was always considered a dark house that represents isolation, pain, imprisonment, hidden enemies and sorrow. If you want to find out which houses are actually associated with spirituality, then you will need to look at the 9th and 3rd house. A lot of people may argue that through painful and isolated moments you can spiritualy awaken, but truth be told the majority of people do not have the maturity needed for spiritual awakening in harsh life moments, so the idea of the 12th house being spiritual still doesn't hold up much
