it's a kill or be killed kinda world

Robby hisses as the ice pack makes a connection with his cheek. Oh, that's going to bruise. Combatitive patients are nothing new but some of them are more of a struggle to deal with than others.

It is only after they get him sedated and handled does Robby actually take the time to deal with his own wound. Though, it's the woman before him that manages to convince him to slow down for a minute.

He can't have his student doctors worried about him.

"I'm fine. It's not the first time I've been punched." He takes over holding the ice pack, pressing it to his throbbing cheek and trying not to wince as moving his lips pulls at the split lip there.

But knowing and seeing first hand are two different beasts.

Shaking the condensation off her hand, she lingers for a moment-- still too fresh from classes to get used to seeing her attending get socked in the jaw. There's that sympathy wince again, "I know tensions can run high here, but shit."

Yeah, not a badge of honor to look forward too. Even if it's inevitable. Ladybird chewed her lower lip for a moment in thought- could probably throw a rock and be hard pressed to not hit a staff member who'd be assaulted on the job. "At least there isn't, like, a MMA fight in town this week."

sonny has times were they remember everything that happened. death. the pain. the fear. the not understanding what was going on or why. it's usually haunting his dreams, visions of woodland, of thick trees and lush greenery. it hangs like a memory just out of fingertip reach.

the memories of friends-- or at least what they thought were friends-- drinking by the campfire, the smell of smoke thick on his tongue. fleeting feelings of joy. of companionship.

something something how sonny had to deal with coming back to life-- not even intentionally, not even completely at first-- after being dead for well over thirty years. thirty years for fucks sake. and having to deal with just how much the world had changed during his death. that nothing was the same. that there was almost nothing familiar for sonny to hold onto to try and get some kind of solid footing.

everyone who had known sonny in life had moved on for the most part, their parents grieved the loss for years, never knowing what happened. even they moved on with their lives, they had too.
