How to Help the Victims of the Sierra Leone Mudslide.
For those who don’t know:
The death toll from a devastating landslide and flooding that hit Sierra Leone earlier this week has risen to nearly 500, according to hospital officials.
More than 600 people remained missing on Sunday, with rescue officials warning that the chances of finding survivors are decreasing each day. The death toll earlier stood at 450.
One of Africa’s worst flooding-related disasters in years occurred when the side of Mount Sugar Loaf collapsed on Monday after heavy rain, burying parts of Regent town on the outskirts of the capital, Freetown.
Churches across the country held special services on Sunday in memory of those killed.
Authorities this week buried 461 bodies in quickly-dug graves in the nearby Waterloo cemetery.
Six days after the mudslide, at least 10,000 people have already been forced from their homes.
The government has called for the evacuation of another 10,000 people living on an unstable hillside in Freetown, where a large crack has opened.
I’m sure this list will be far from complete but here are some ways that you can help the victims of this disaster:
HELP SIERRA LEONE MUDSLIDE SURVIVORS

Concern Worldwide is helping with the relief efforts, you can read about it and find a link to their donation page here.
Heart Shaped Hands is raising money which you can find here, and Kei Kamara, a Sierra Leone footballer and president of the organization, will match all the donations you make.
The Red Cross has been aiding Sierra Leone this past week, you can read about what they’ve done here and there is a donation link at the bottom of the page and here is the Sierra Leone Red Cross Society.

Schools for Salone is also taking donations for the mudslide victims, if you donate here make sure to specify you want to money to go to the flood victims in the comment box.

“Her fantasy novel Children of Blood and Bone, the first of a trilogy about a young girl’s battle with a prince over bringing magic back to West Africa, is going to be released some time next year. But it’s already got a seven-figure publishing deal with Macmillan, and a massive deal with Fox Studios too, with the latter acquiring the movie rights pretty early on in the day for a book that hasn’t even been published yet.”

I’m happy for her. I hope executives don’t get greedy. Something about a movie deal before a book is released sounds too sketchy

Man. 😪
hey if you’re a man i’m gonna need you to never approach a woman who’s alone at night time. don’t care what your intention is– unless it’s an emergency, don’t. you probably have no idea what the jolt of cold terror and/or the gnawing dread feels like in these situations. thanks
If it is an emergency and you’re coming up and she’s not flat out looking right at you, call out and be all “Hey I’m sorry this is an emergency I need help” WAY before you come right up to her. If she’s looking right at you coming up, still, keep some distance and keep your hands visible. I thought all this was common sense, I don’t ever try to surprise anyone by coming close up to them, but people just don’t always think, especially if you’ve got something important falling apart on you.
This isn’t just for her sake. You don’t know what weapons she could have on her, and if you startle her and she panics… you don’t wanna be the recipient of that.

#BlackWomenAtWork uncovers everyday struggles black women face at work
Black women are fed up with the way they are treated in the workplace so they are sharing their experiences on Twitter. Activist Brittany Packnett kicked off the hashtag #BlackWomenAtWork in response to the disrespectful ways in which two prominent black women were treated by public figures throughout the day.
As a way to help address these issues, Packnett encouraged black women online to share some of their real-life experiences at work.
“I wanted the hashtag to make the invisible visible, to challenge non-black people to stand with black women not just when this happens on television, but in the cube right next to them,” she said. “I’m also glad stories of triumph and achievement got shared through the hashtag as well ― black women are more than just our woes, we are triumphant.”
Note to my ex.
Today my professor told me every cell in our entire body is destroyed and replaced every seven years. How comforting it is to know that one day I will have a body that you will have never touched.
This just made me feel so warm.
thank you.
Important especially for victims of abuse, remember your body is yours and it heals in more ways than you realize.
I reblog this every time I see it because every time, I’m a little more me and a little less you.
This year is the year.
