mr-snarkshark!
âOh my my my~ Arenât you zhe curious vone, hmmmm?â
Forcing himself to his feet with a quick stretch, the head of leviathanâs claw looked over the boy carefully with those calculating eyes. He tapped on his chin rhythmically with the bottom of the pen in his hand. This boy was naive, perhaps a little dimâŚ..though it really was hard to tell with some of these guild folk, gruffness didnât always translate to a lack of intelligence. After allâŚhe was related to Don Whitehorse, and Yeager both knew and respected the man and his station. But you couldnât really count on that sort of thing toâŚcarry on in later generations.
The boy was a hard worker, but a little too serious for Yeagerâs taste. He could use a splash of fun in his presentation when speaking to people! It certainly wouldnât kill him to have a little more personality.Â
Though he was tired, the man was not about to divulge anything to do with his personal life to the young man that stood before him now. Heâd change subject, dance around the topicâŚadd a bit of flare, and have fun with it! But ultimately, his aim was to make sure that Harry left without knowing even a spec of information about the man that he hadnât already known.
ââŚ.Alvays vorking so haaaard! Truly your grandpa-pa is appreciative of all zhat you do for him, ja? Iâve never seen somevone run around so much for zhe sake of just thinking zhe vone you care about is in need! Itâs inschpiring! Perhaps my girls could learn a thing or two from you, ha ha ha!â
Drawing a gloved hand over his mouth as he spoke, Yeagerâs eyes narrowed.
âIt really is sad, you knowâŚ.zhat zhe ozhers donât appreciate all zhe effort you go through to live up to zhe Donâs expectations. So sad! Ja! So very very sad! Vith as little time I schpend around hereâŚ.youâd think Iâd be zhe last person to see zhis sort of thing, und yet! Even I can see how much youâre trying!â
Harry blinked. No. He wasnât that curious. But, he shrugged lightly as an answer instead. He might as well make it sound like he was agreeing. There wasnât really a problem with disagreeing with a tired Yeager. In fact, it might be a little interesting to learn about. He didnât get to see Yeager alone often, so he didnât get to talk freely or learn much about him. He might as well take advantage of the time they had together now.
Yeager was one of the guild leaders in the Union, not only that, but one of the top five as well. So it was important for him to keep good relations, at least on the surface, wasnât it?
Even if Leviathanâs Claw rubbed Harry the wrong way some of the time, he couldnât fault Yeager for any of it. He did his jobs and he did them well. That was what mattered ... well, that and he didnât seem to cause any problems with the Unions understood rules. No blatant disregards or anything of the sort. So? Play nice. Which was easier said than done, especially for Harry.Â
Harry was prone to speaking his mind, unfortunately.
âEh? Not ... Iâd do this for anyone in Altosk if I knew they needed it.âÂ
He didnât quite understand where this was going. Though he understood maybe the idea of it being âinspiringâ. Sort of. But it was just what Altosk expected of him. What his grandpa expected of him. And, even now, what he expected of himself.
âIâd appreciate it if you would kindly shut yer trap âbout me.â
He was now keenly aware of what Yeager said. The little voice in the back of his head agreeing with Yeager, but also making his stomach churn in discomfort. He did not like otherâs being able to so clearly see who he was ... or really, what he wanted to complain about, shout about ...Â
âIf ya didnât wanna tell me anything, ya couldâa just said so. I ainât so interested that Iâd go tooth ân nail to pry it out.â
