I’m back with another DIY. Since I have been noticing a lot of Concrete related DIY’s on Tumblr and Pinterest and I decided to try out a couple of them myself and share them with you. Hence, the “Concrete Project Series”. It might sound a bit strange I guess, but trust me, they look super chic. The first one that I’m sharing with you is a concrete candle.
Pencil, Ruler and Scissors
Old candles and candle wick
Step 1: Take your cardboard box and using the help of a pencil and ruler, mark the length you want your candle to be of. Once marked, cut the box to the desired length.
Step 2 : Take your mixture of concrete- 3 parts sand, 1 part cement and 1 part water. Mix them well and pour it only half way into the cardboard box. Let this dry for at least 24 Hours.
Step 3 : Once the concrete part has dried off, take your old candles and melt them until they are in a liquid state. Place your wick in the center of the concrete and start pouring your melted candles till you reach the top. Let it dry for another 24 Hours.
*Method for melting old candles– Place the old candles in a container. Take a larger container and boil some water in it. Place the container with old candles in it so the candles can melt with the heat of the boiling water surrounding it. Do NOT place the melted candles container directly under the heat.
Step 4 : It’s time for the big revelation. Bring in your candle and tear of the cardboard box from around. That’s it! You are done. If you want this to be a scented candle, you can add some essential oil in the melting candle mixture.
It is pretty simple. The overall process takes two days only because of the drying process involved, however otherwise, this could be completed in less than an hour.
