i am still holding onto mitski's "one morning this sadness will fossilize and i will forget how to cry"
the last time i properly used my tumblr account i was broke, single and in a job i hated
i'm now back in a relationship in a job i really like and have enough money to buy trinkets sometimes. im so goated
How quickly he changed to using Gary, man I do love this movie a lot.
Then literally seconds later.
It’s all literally so sweet.
I hate that creating art is so impossibly linked to your status and personal finance. so many people in better off positions can take time to deepen their craft and fine tune their methodology while everyone else has to squeeze it between work shifts, quiet breaks or sleepless nights
"what about having work ethic" how about I smack you and your trust fund a new one

thank you superman 2025 and fantastic for 2025 for putting romantic relationships back into the spotlight for comic book movies
most superhero books are soap opera romance stories but they also punch dinosaurs
Seeing online hype about supergirl next year? hell yeah
"Can't wait to see krypto again 😍"
do they know chat
Read a fucking comic man
Shoutout to Superman (2025) for making it incredibly fucking clear that Superman is for good people. He’s hope. He’s love. He’s supportive. He’s an immigrant. He supports Palestine. He loves animals. He protects children.
The movie is a light. If you’ve been feeling really depressed about the world lately I’d highly suggest watching Superman.

I think the BIGGEST reason why so many idiots scream about modern comic book projects being "woke" or whatever the fuck comes down to this
they know, even through layers and layers of delusion, that these characters they love wouldn't like them
so they pretend that they never were "woke"
if comic books have set eras like "Golden Age" "Sliver Age" stuff like that. we don't we have set eras for comic book movies and tv shows?
btw if anyone thinks that the way Superman (2025) handles its politics is a bit heavy handed; that's just how superman stories work
one of the best recent stories is called superman smashes the klan
here at dc we like our politically charged stories to have the subtle feel of a brick to the temple. We like that
broken record but I cannot stand how so much nerd shit that is so obviously left in its politics can be loved so much by the worst right wing arseholes in history
yeah yeah "death of the author" and all that I have a master of arts I know. just so many loud snot nosed chucklefucks bring down shit they like for being "woke and dumb" when newsflash!!!! It's been woke the whole time!!! The fact you MISSED that makes me wonder your reading comprehesion level!!!!!

when i first heard about the male loneliness epidemic i was like oh yeah close camaraderie and bonding between men is often discouraged in favor of competition or, if not discouraged, at least filtered through a lens of individualism that precludes deep connections. and then i learned what people meant by it (men arent getting laid) to which i say skill issue
one of favourite bits of writing I've done recently was for a show called SIBLING DINNER which I created with the other boys in freshly squeezed theatre
most of the work that comes out of there is tradicomedy, like most of it is a very silly comedic show under a pretence of sadness - with sibling dinner being 3 very weird and cooky brothers have to meet up so they can stay in the will. got lots of highlights in there personally but the main one is Jan's Frame Scene
the idea was that after the introduction each "act" is interrupted by a "Papa Brain Scene" - a duolouge between one sibling (who is holding an ornate picture frame) and who THEY perceive their father to be; the goal to give the audience an entertaining, silly entertaining entry point into the characters mind, to break up the long ensemble scenes with something weirder and to recontexulise that characters behavior. (For context, Brett sees his father as an evil, pathetic old man & Demitri sees his father as an overbearing Military officer.)
specifically for my character Jan, the youngest and the favourite, his Papa Brain Scene is a sitcom, with his father being very sweet and caring, with him constantly reminding a young impressionable Jan that "he is the most important thing in the world, more important than wives or taxes" - the way Papa (or SITCOM DAD in the script) acts is so contradictory to the way the rest of the show displays him, to the point where even the audience knows that Jan creates his own history and believes it's true.
the crux of this scene showing Jan and his weird Brain father sharing a kiss as a thank you for a christmas present; both a moment to jolt the audience & shock them, and to show how unstable and ultimately, wrong Jan's perception of the world is compared to his siblings. Even compassion and care, in Jan's eyes, is transactional.
It's a moment that has played super well on stage; a moment where the audience sees that Jan is the most unstable of the three & once Jan crumbles at the end of the show, gives context to who Jan really sees himself as: a loner with a fake life.
