Tens of thousands of tonnes of rubbish remains uncleared from a Sheffield ‘recycling’ site – months after regulators ordered it to be cleared. Sheffield Recycling Services has still failed to comply with an enforcement notice from the Environment Agency over ‘excessive waste’ at over its Manor Works site on Cricket Inn Road, close to the Sheffield Parkway. Picture: Andrew Roe The site was meant to be cleared by the end of March, but huge piles of waste around 40ft high still remain. Rusting skips full of waste are also at the site, along with abandoned cars. Beesley Corporate Solutions were appointed as administrators to the company in March after a petition to wind up the firm was submitted in December. A spokesman for the Environment Agency said it is ‘considering’ taking further action against the company while working with administrators to get the rubbish removed. Sheffield Recycling Services. Picture: Andrew Roe He said: “The Environment Agency is investigating a waste site in Sheffield where excessive waste has been stored on the site. “We are taking action against the operator, Sheffield Recycling Services, which ran the facility before going into administration. “Earlier this year we served an enforcement notice on the firm; we suspended the operator’s permit, preventing any more waste from being brought onto the site until the site is compliant. “We are now considering taking further enforcement action against the company because it has not met the requirements of the enforcement notice before the deadline of the end of March. Picture: Andrew Roe “In the meantime, we are working with the administrators and the landowner to have the waste removed from the site.” A source who has previously complained about the state of the site said he was unhappy with how the Environment Agency has regulated the site since the enforcement notice was imposed. He said: “It is disgraceful. Nothing has happened for weeks to clean it up. “It has actually got worse with people dumping stuff there.” Sheffield Recycling Services.
