clinicals are a new type of hell within itself. roman’s smart, factual t a point, but he lacks… people skills. not to say that he’s particularly not charming, he rather is ; he just lacks a bit of understanding, of compassion of sorts. and he’s just an all-around odd-ball. he spends most of his time unbalanced. his hands absolutely won’t stop shaking, caffeine burning like fire through his veins. ❝ sorry, ❞ he glances apologetically at the patient, having once again failed to stick them, then to uriah, ❝ can you get this ? i don’t know what’s wrong with me. ❞

“i don’t think even years of practice would help me,” he smiles. his lack of coordination and balance knows no bounds. “in that case, do you want to grab a bite or something?”

It was enough to make the girl warm up to Uriah more, and that’s when Axel can tell that they’ve broken through the shy barrier. “Yay!” Regina shouts in response as she accepts that answer, and Axel can’t even be too upset over that. It was far too cute, and a little ice cream really doesn’t hurt anyone. “Good to know.” Axel is teasing a little with a laugh of his own.

“I think Lars and I have always wanted this, to settle down together someday, but the timing wasn’t right when we were younger, you know?”

“Well that’s what piblings are for, aren’t they? Spoiling you when your dads refuse to.” Uriah says with a laugh, thought hey know that’s never going to happen - Regina will want for nothing, with parents like Lars and Axel. “You just come to me, sweetheart. I’ll always be here for you, just like your dads.” They tell her with a chuckle, giving her a gentle hug before they straighten up again.

It was a big relief to see that the two of them were getting along. It wasn’t like Axel had any doubt on his mind though because his best friend was pretty great, especially when it comes to interacting with children. They were someone Axel trusts the most in his life, so having Regina be around them was important to him.

His own arms rest over his chest as he watches the two of them interact. Regina is giggling a little as Uriah lifts one of the rabbit’s ears like that. Her eyes open wide as she listens, also nodding along. “I will come see you! So if they don’t let me have ice cream for dinner you would?”  Which makes Axel laugh as he steps closer. “Sweetheart everyone is going to spoil you so much.” He looks over to his best friend again. “She’s the best thing to ever happen to us, Uriah. I mean it.”

“Good, you come and see me whenever you want, okay?” They say with a smile, reaching to pat her shoulder gently. Uriah loves children, they love babysitting for their friends and helping out - of course one day they hope they’ll have a family of their own, but for now they’re happy helping Axel and Lars with their new little girl. “I’ll let you have ice cream anytime you want, even if your dads say no.”

“It has been a big change for all of us, but she’s settling in great.” Axel knew that going from the streets of Gotham to being adopted by Lars and himself was quite the lifestyle change. She took to the two of them instantly though so it was as if everything was meant to be. Axel knew that Uriah was great with kids so he envisions this going well. 

Her little hands hold the rabbit up to show them. “His name is Floppy. This is my best friend!” Regina says with a soft giggle at that. It makes Axel smile too to watch the get to know each other. “I’ve had him since I can remember. Do you like Floppy?”  She asks the question as if it was the most important one she could think of. 

God, she’s so cute, Uriah can’t help the wide smile on their face as they watch the little girl. They’ve always had a soft spot for kids, they can’t help it, and knowing that Lars and Axel have taken this girl in and are going to take care of her, give her a better life - Uriah thinks that’s incredible, and they definitely wants to help however they can.

This was an important moment for Axel.  He places a hand on his daughter’s head as she peers out from behind his legs. “It’s alright, honey. You can come out. We can trust them.” Regina slowly coming out from where she had been hiding. One of her arms holding her stuffed rabbit named FLOPPY close to her. Axel kneels down to get to her level. “This is my BEST FRIEND, Uriah.” He looks up at them, and tilts his head. “She’s a little shy, but I think she’s starting to warm up to you.” 

The little girl stepping forward to look up at them. “Hello.”

“Hey, she can take all the time she needs. I can’t even imagine how many new people she’s met since you brought her home.” Uriah assures their friend with a smile, not wanting Axel to feel responsible for this. They’ve always been good with kids for reasons beyond their understanding, so they don’t doubt they can find a way to make Regina like her - but they do hope it doesn’t come to that.

              ‘ oh, just woman up and read wiki-how like the rest of us.    hasn’t fixed  any  of my relationships,   but did help fix the toaster oven.     what’s broke anyway? other than your, like, angst meter.  ’ 

“Your concern is touching.” Uriah says with a weak chuckle, shaking their head. They shouldn’t be so surprised - it’s not exactly the cheeriest topic of conversation. “Oh that list’s kinda long, maybe it’s time for a change of subject.”

“you’re welcome. i don’t know how you can do half of that, but it’s lovely.” it’s then that he realizes that he might be on uriah’s ways. the dancer had stopped after one dance, but there was no telling if it was the last of their set. “am i in the way? because i can leave you alone if you don’t want the audience.” 

“You may be able to take care of yourself. But I am still gonna keep an eye on you, Uriah” he said and sighed. “I always do when it comes to people I care about. People out there are like sharks, just waiting to attack. And I am too smart to let them attack the people I hold closest to my heart” he added and then moved to sit down on his chair again. “Now come and sit with me while I come up with a good punishment for the man”

he wouldn’t say that he has two left legs, but it was close enough and it became even more clear whenever he watched uriah dancing. a beauty and fluidity to their movements that cyrus would never be able to mimic. and wouldn’t even try because he didn’t fancy a broken leg, thank you very much. his smile was wide, quiet ( he wouldn’t risk disrupting the other ) and lost in the dance as much as the dancer himself. it’s only when uriah is done that he brings his hands together in much-deserved applause. “that was beautiful.” more than that, it was magical how they could express so much without a single word. “Well it is quite the relief that you don’t think that I did. Because I would never do that to the people I actually cherish” he said and shook his head. “Maybe that is foolish of me. But when it comes to certain matters I would much rather be foolish than clever” he added. Gaze moving back to the man who had almost put Uriah’s life in danger, he then snapped his fingers as a way to call upon some of the men that worked for him. “Oh you will work for me. But I am gonna be more careful with who I leave you alone with from now on”

sofia chuckled at the statement, knowing how true it was. she would always look out for uriah and the other paragon med students. they were forming into her work family, and she was nothing but loyal to family. “hm, well if that happens please text me so that I don’t have to do that alone. cause that’s my usual Saturday night now.” she teased, “i would try to give you advice but i’m not sure i’m the best person for it.” her tone was joyful, for the first time in a long time being able to talk about her relationship in a positive way and not to complain about it, or sulk about it. “ i’m not really sure how i landed sam but, we had a chemistry class together, he kind of seemed like an asshole, and then next thing i knew i was making out with him in the back of a library and forcing him to hold my hand when we walked to class together.” she had to laugh at how different things were now. “but, if i’m allowed to give any advice, i would just say try to be honest with them, it will only help you in the long run.”

……..oh hey, look, wood things? if his face wasn’t red from the cold or the hand holding, it sure was when the reality of his statement hit him. well, he certainly never claimed to be good at this. it wasn’t like he’d ever had a chance to practice, and in truth? he was embarrassed to admit it, but his best references with this stuff was movies he’d watched with his family, so the little squeeze is enough to divert his attention fully– looking at their hands together a moment before he looks back up, eyes zeroing in on one, “i mean, the dragon incense burner with smoke coming out of its snout is pretty clearly the winner for me. what about you?” he asks, squeezing their hand back.

Shaking his head, a soft sigh left his lips as he looked at the other. “You have done nothing wrong. He is the one who should apologize for putting your life in danger” he assured the other and tried not to get too upset over the fact that someone wanted to hurt the people Oswald cared for, the people who had been there for him when the world had turned it’s back. “I will always have your back, don’t you worry” Oswald added, which was something he rarely said to people. Trust was hard to give out to people but Uriah was worthy. “Hopefully there won’t be a next time”

“Every OTHER day?” Axel gasp dramatically, but they were right. Although he usually was better at avoiding being caught. He was just stealthy like that. He was always thankful for his best friend accepting him and his strange behaviors. “I hear they have some special treats from all over. I’m quite excited.” He says with a grin as he leads the way in long strides.
