âMy stylist is such an idiot. District 7, lumber. Iâd like to put an axe through his face.â
Chip listened to his music way too loudly, and that apparently qualified him to help occasionally with the audio engineering behind the most recent arena event. He hadnât done much. He worked on it so long ago that he barely remembered what he actually did, but he knew it wasnât much. Still, when the arena ground began to shake, when he saw which technicians were in the re-created tech Cave of the HQ, he knew what was coming. And when it hit, he held his breath. It was so loud, so powerful, that it left even his left ear ringing.Â
When he was let go for his break, he could still feel the pressure in his ears, in his skull; like the noise had never fully diminished. It stuck with him as he went through the motions of making coffee. Only once he had poured a full cup did he look over at the bag beside the machine, and realized it was decaf. âFuuuuck,â he hissed out.
Trixie looked up from the table sheâd perched herself at in the main lobby of the resort. The screens here were either muted or turned down much lower than in the viewing rooms or even the sponsor lounge sheâd passed. She wasnât a fan of the deep bass that emanated anytime the sonic boom was shown again, she hadnât been when itâd happened the night before either. She eyed Chip a moment before speaking, âWhatâs got you in such a foul mood?â She questioned.
maverickmontanaâ:
He laughed a little. âYeah, I feel like if I were at this party as a kid Iâd tire myself out fast. Go big and then go home.â He paused. âHow is District Two doing? Smithâs gotten pretty far now.â
-
âOh she seems to have energy for days though.â Trixie laughed. Val always had especially if it meant dressing up and terrorizing a few sponsors. âSmith has gotten pretty far, Iâm cautiously optimistic.â Sheâd seen District Two come in second place because of a stupid mishap or a moment of hesitation, she wouldnât let her hopes get too high just because heâd made it this far.Â
maverickmontanaâ:
âNow you tell me,â he joked. âIf I want to win big Iâd have to wait a lot longer and probably lose a lot more of my money, so I think Iâll call it quits for now. What are you betting on tonight?â
-
âI only just found you.â Trixanna laughed softly. She looked around a moment and then shrugged. âOther than how long until Valkaryie tuckers out and wants to go to bed? Nothing. And even thatâs personal and not monetary.â

âThis is rigged,â Maverick said, frowning at the slot machine which had just taken all his money and given him absolutely nothing. Fortunately, heâd only brought twenty bucks tonight, not willing to lose any more than that (because he didnât have any more than that). âWord to the wise, donât play this one.â
Trixanna had watched in slight amusement as Maverick seemingly lost all his money to a machine. âWell, slow machines are purely based on luck and usually have very poor odds.â She shrugged. âBut when you do win, you usually win big.âÂ
slateskylarâ:
âWell itâs not snooping like that,â he said defensively. âHestia knows, she totally supports it. Not that I need her support since Iâm 18. Itâs more like â taking notes and reporting back. Like the Gazette but⌠way less gossipy.â
-
She remembered spouting that she was a victor, she could make her own decisions and then, four years later that she was an adult she could make her own decisions. She didnât comment on his statement though. âOkay, less gossipy, then what about the games are they wanting to write about?âÂ
slateskylarâ:
âShe didnât bring me,â he said, âIâm actually working. Doing some snooping for a new publishing press in the Capitol. They wanna make real books but gotta make some money off Hunger Games shit first.â
-
Trixie raised a brow at the information given. âYou wish to be an author? What kind of snooping are you doing? Does Hestia know - know that youâre snooping about?â She asked.Â
slateskylarâ:
âFuck excitement,â he said. âI just want to go home.â He didnât hate the beach, not as much as some people did, but he missed Twelve.
âYou and me both kid.â Trixie sighed. She hated the public eye, hated being in it, hated more so that her child was in it though she would never leave Val at home. âWhyâd Hestia bring you along this time? Why didnât you stay home?â
wstbrookâ:
âI might, if it wasnât supposed to be lunchtime.â Archie chuckled and raised his eyebrows. Glancing over, he gave a fond smile, happy to see who had wandered into the lounge.Â
âLetâs hope it ends quick this time. But not too quick, I do enjoy the ball.â He quipped but he couldnât agree more with the sentiment. There was enough death in one game to last a lifetime.Â
-
The corner of Trixieâs lips turned up in a small smile. âYou gotta learn to take a late breakfast, eat lunch well after lunch.â She chuckled. In all honesty, she hadnât eaten at all that day, her stomach in knots.Â
âI couldnât agree more, well about it ending quickly.â She wasnât a fan of any ball, not even her own victory ball thirty-some years prior. She really just wanted to return home though.Â

Archie sipped on a glass of earl grey tea. âAlmost makes you lose your appetite.â He haphazardly motioned towards a screen. The escort had taken to the sponsorâs lounge to watch the games. His eyes wandered more towards the waves than the television. He wasnât a fan of the viewing rooms, too dark, and more cramped than the ones in the Capitol. The soft light on his skin was much more welcome.Â
Westbrook glanced at his phone before putting it on vibrate, turning his attention to the other. For the moment he still had reason to check on the games. One of his tributes was still alive and a little more promising than Cable. He squinted, âwhat an unfortunate name.âÂ
Trixie had been watching from the well-lit sponsor room just for a short time, something having caught her attention as she passed by and thus she had slipped into the room. She raised a brow at the manâs comment. âOh, you mean you donât take great joy in the spectacle?â She questioned sarcastically. âThis is only the beginning too.â It was tiring, at the very least, after so many years.Â
âKind of on the nose,â Slate said, chewing on the end of his pen as he sat in one of the movie-theater-turned-viewing-rooms. âSin city and all that for the rebels. I was really hoping theyâd go for a blank void, but thereâs always next time.â
âThere wouldnât be enough excitement.â Trixie muttered, tone bordering on bitter. Everything was about excitement for the sponsors, money the sponsors would spend, all on the blood and gore.Â

âI could stand to learn more. Maybe some first-aid, if you can spare a few tips,â Smith said. He wasnât the type to ask for help, especially when he thought it looked weak on his end. After seeing what happened to his brother and his injury, Smith didnât want to be in a position where he didnât know any basic skills. âTrust me, I donât want any trouble with alliances. Iâm being careful with who I work with. As for weapons, I can work with anything heavy. Maces, clubs, mauls. Shit, even a good hammer. Iâm more of a âbeat-them-âtil-they-stop-breathingâ kind of guy.â
-
âI would just visit the first aid station. Make sure if you get a wound you keep it clean. Antibiotic creams can only do some much if you slap them on top of a dirty wound. Also check out the plant identification station, alot of plants have medicinal properties.â Thatâd been something hadnât known nearly enough about before having a green house in her backyard. When he answered about weapons, she was quiet a moment. So he wasnât one whoâd end things quickly it seemed. Heâd put on a good show and she knew the sponsors would enjoy that no matter how much it made her own stomach churn. âGot it, Iâll see what I can do.âÂ
smithbrickâ:
âPlan, right,â Smith said, nodding his head as if he knew what he was talking about. In truth, he volunteered on a whim and didnât have a single plan in mind as to how he would get out alive. âI mean, I know how to fight. Not to toot my own horn, but I even know how to set a fire or two. I just donât know about teaming up with the other tributes, you know, âcause of the rebel shit. Plus, we both know how alliances went for Masonâ
-
Trixie said nothing in reply to his comment on the so called ârebel shitâ. They were from Two, supposed to be so far shoved up the Capitolâs ass that rebellion shouldnât even be on their radar. As such, she wouldnât admit to her involvement in the rebellion no matter how small it was. Nor would she give any indication sheâd been involved. So instead, sheâd focus on what he admitted to. âGood, survival skills are something that seems to be lacking in the academies no a days. Fighting and weapons are always focused on, no so much survival.â She shrugged, thinking for a moment. âAs for alliances, they can be beneficial. You just have to know how to split before they turn sour.â As they had the games before. âWhatâs your weapon of choice? If you canât get it at the cornucopia I can try to pul the strings to get it to you.â
