Very relevant for the tumblr leftist crowd
!!!!
More doodle world art.
I'm gonna continue drawing a small illustrative picture of other doodles lore out of fun and till some interesting idea comes to mind.
(totally normal person voice) yeah, the thought of being ever so slightly immoral makes me burst out into tears and feel physically ill, so i closely monitor everything i think, say and do just in case i do something wrong. and if i do something wrong, i reaffirm my moral stance by thinking out my moral rules and views in my mind to undo the evil damage ive done. i gotta try my hardest to be as moral as possible because otherwise, everyone will find out that im secretly evil at my core and ill become the worse person ever. that would disastrous and the mere thought of it scares me more than anything. what? no, i dont have ocd, i can't say that i have that because thatd be immoral for me (me specifically) to say

like, I myself have also never lived on the rez so I can really only speak to the experiences I’ve had shared with me by friends and family—and frankly, there are some things my loved ones just straight up won’t even talk about because it was just that fucking bad. but with the way some folks on this site (in particular, as I’ve mentioned before, white Europeans who seem to have convinced themselves that just because they’re not American means they’re absolved of all the evils of white supremacy and imperialism) talk about Native people living in the imperial core it feels really clear to me that a lot of these people have never even, like, attempted to so much as imagine just how fucking bad the conditions on most reservations are. they’re certainly not doing any research into it. just, like, speaking loudly and confidently about how privileged we are to live in the US without a shred of consideration for the fact that these places were intentionally constructed to have the worst living conditions possible. and like that’s not to say that you can’t have any semblance of a good life there, I’ve also heard so many stories of joy and love and community on the rez and I don’t want to take away from that. but those things are hard fought for through the fucking incredible power and resilience of what it is to be a native person surviving genocide, they happen IN SPITE of all the odds stacked against us. I promise that you as a white person in fucking France or whatever are not worse off than generations of people forced into reservations, with extremely limited access to food and clean water and healthcare. for real.
and of course the justification is always “oh well that’s such a small percentage of the US population though” as if that’s not literally the same logic used by the government to allow these people to continue to suffer, and as though population percentage is supposed to make me just stop caring about my relatives. like that just doesn’t make you look better. and if you’re from a colonizing European country it was your fucking ancestors that created the conditions that led to people suffering today. shut the fuck up!
Black Character Designs
Im taking a gamble with this, i did this on my toyhouse but im curious what the results would be on tumblr.
Do You Feel Black Characters Are "Harder" To Draw?
No
Yes
If you picked yes, please explain why you feel this way.
If you comment please remember to use BLACK if you specifically are talking about Black people, dont substitute it for Poc when you mean Black. This post is also NOT a confessional, please be respectful.
Decided to post the questions along with this
● If you find Black characters harder to design, why do you feel this way?
● Do you think its important to learn to draw black characters?
● What are things you should avoid doing when designing Black characters?
● Do black character designs stop at human\humanoid designs?
● For Black users only, while everything is certainly the answer, is there anything specific you'd like to see more of in black character designs?
You can answer as many as you like, just dont answer the last one if your not Black.
Hey so. You understand the things to avoid about drawing Black characters but are still afraid of drawing us?
Let me explain something, i understand where this comes from, somewhat, it is understandable to not want to accidentally do something harmful, but in my opinion, being afraid and avoidant of drawing Black people is more harmful than trying and messing up a bit the first time, its very VERY easy to not draw caricatures, i promise you, its incredibly easy to avoid, unless you are being careless, inconsiderate, or malicious, you will not draw an offensive caricature. You have to remember that we are people too, we have different features of course, but Black people, again, are people and if you draw people you can draw a Black person.
You won't be able to learn or improve if you lead with fear and not consideration, yes, it is important to consider certain aspects of drawing Black people (i.e, checking to make sure the skin isnt grey, making sure you consider how your portraying your Black characters, etc.) But being afraid of accidentally doing something racist will just hold you back, and in my opinion, can come off quite othering, you should be mindful and considerate, not fearful.
Its also important to pinpoint what exactly your afraid of. Afraid of accidentally doing something racist? Well have you done research on what to avoid? Have you asked for feedback or advice from Black artists and writers?
Is it backlash your afraid of? Are you assuming Black individuals will come after you if you make one little slip up? I personally think this mentality feeds into the Angry minority stereotype and how online we're frequently accused and framed as bullies, aggressors, harassers, etc. When i assure the vast majority of Black people do not condone those things nor do we lead with anger, in fact, most of us are very nice about criticisms or tips, so if its backlash your afraid of, you need to get rid of the mindset you will be attacked for every little thing you do, if you are genuinely trying, no one is going to go after you (even then, criticism is not going after anyone and if someone points out something and its not in a super sweet, soft way, thats still not automatically bad, Black people have a right to be wary of nonblack people handling topics of Blackness, Black people and Black culture, if someone says "Hey no, thats really fucked up actually", your response to that will tell us everything, all we really want is a "oh shit, my bad, I'll fix it, im so sorry for that, i appreciate the criticism" and thats it)
So use references, tips and tutorials, ask for advice, do research, engage with Black art and artists, leading with this fear is more harmful than good, you shouldn't be afraid to draw a human being, especially if you literally haven't even tried to do it yet.

So what's going on with so many people on my most recent poll about if Black characters are harder to draw going "No, BUT, hair-"
Textured hair is not that difficult to draw and if you feel like its something that's uniquely more difficult than straight hair textures you really just need more practice because i promise you, its not that difficult.
For real.
It's really not hard to learn. Breaking it down into shapes really helps. I did this in less than 5 minutes.
You can really learn a lot by just breaking things down into basic shapes and going from there.

This isn't at all a new or novel observation, but. Allyship in a fandom space means nothing if you immediately ditch the ally part in favor of equating antiblack rhetoric that makes its way into your favorite show, character interpretation, writer's rooms etc. as fandom drama. This shouldn't have to be said. But it still doesn't seem to be common sense. I guarantee you Black fans and other fans of color who are rightfully upset about very blatant, very ignorant and disrespectful depictions in the media they consume, from creators who have made very clear their extreme lack of respect for nonwhite fans, are a far cry from typical fandom bad faith discourse. Yet I always, always see the complaint anyway of "never being able to please these people." Hey question. Who's "these people". Answer quickly
I’m so glad this conversation is finally being had because blerds really can’t do NOTHING in fandom without the comment section reeking of hatred.
Marion :D
( his armor is kinda confusing to draw but i think i did an alright job :] )
if u think poc talking about fandom racism is ruining ur fun and putting a strain on the community, I wish u a very shut the fuck up
its kind of crazy that all it took for self shipping to become a recognizable trend in certain spaces was using a japanese word for it instead
So can we talk about the orientalism that plagues fandom and is present in the selfship community. Yume as a term blew up because of it, it's why white people give their self inserts Asian names and then get mad when someone tells them that's cultural appropriation. Asian terms (and especially Japanese ones) are seen as a cool aesthetic more so than something from an irl culture

Btw you are valid as aplatonic or aplatonic-spectrum even if:
You have friends
You use "friend" vocabulary
You have friends but don't call them that
You don't have friends but still use "friend" vocabulary
You want friends
You want (a) partner(s), of any kind
You're only aplatonic; no other aspec
You don't want relationships of any kind (including with animals)
Where you are on the aplatonic spectrum fluctuates
Your aplatonicism is caused or exaserbated by autism, NPD, OCD, or any other neurodivergency
Your aplatonicism influences your gender or sexuality
Literally anything else that isn't seen as an "acceptable" way to be aplatonic!!
