Zitao smiled a little at Baromâs curiosity. It wasnât every day he got asked where he was from; and honestly, he regretted the fact that he honestly didnât remember anything about his life in China. âMy parents told me I was born in Qingdao, but we moved when I was barely three,â on top of the matter heâd lost all of his memories in the car accident - at least, the real Zitao did. An angel kept Huang Zitao alive now - but Zitao didnât think he was any different from the one that was lost in the crash. âSo...I donât really remember China. They took be back to visit family a lot, but thatâs about it,â
He turned towards the table when Barom offered him something to eat. He smiled a little before turning back to him. âDonât worry about it, I ate before I left my house. Iâm not really hungry,â he didnât want to disturb Isabella either. If she was as shy as Barom said she was, she might not take to having a near stranger sit down at the table with her. âI hope Iâm not inconveniencing you if fixing it might take awhile...if you need parts I can pay for them,â he was starting to fret and worry over what needed to be done to his bike. He had some money saved for a rainy day so if there were parts that needed replacing, he would gladly pay Barom back for his help.
Zitao felt probed. He bit his lip as she continued examining him, stepping around him as he was momentarily distracted. He tried to keep his eyes on her at all times, his muscles tense and ready to spring into action if the woman chose to either attack or do something that would end in a fight. He still didnât want to argue or anything; in fact, if he had his way, heâd be heading to find the demon that killed the man at this very moment.
âIâm not lying,â Zitao protested, hoping to keep her guard down by speaking to her. âHonestly I just didnât know what you were talking about,â he turned to face her, done with her pacing around him. He wanted to be able to see her and not have his back turned in case she was the enemy. He couldnât risk anything, not when there was a demon on the loose.
Zitao didnât flinch when she turned to face him, keeping that ring held tight against his palm as he met her gaze steadily, searching for that balance of relaxed and prepared to attack, attempting to communicate through body language alone that he wasnât about to hurt her and he also hoped she would lower her guard as well.
At her words, he frowned slightly in confusion. âCome where?â he questioned. He didnât know just where she would be going. Was she talking about going after the demon? Or was there something else she had in mind?
9 - My muse will tell you about a time their parents hurt their feelings
âMaybe itâs just a thing some parents do but...I donât know one day I did really well on a test and they didnât even say âI love youâ. Itâs like...my effort wasnât really worth it, you know what I mean...?â Zitao bit his lip, thinking he mustâve sounded like some lame brained bonehead whining about not getting a cookie. Zitao couldnât help it - he just loved his parents and he was always looking for the signs that they loved him back just as much.
It was just a simple, small bouquet bought on a studentâs budget. He figured he should at least do something considering the cashier at the cafe seemed so...down lately. Picking out a bright, cheerful bouquet of cheap but pretty flowers he hoped it would help him out.
He offered a shy smile as he held them over the counter towards the surprised man. âTo cheer you up,â Zitao said. âYou looked kind of sad,â

13 - My muse will tell you about a crime they committed
âMaybe I was just a kid,â Zitao said, biting his lip. âAnd maybe I really really wanted that chocolate bar. I mean I knew it was wrong but I just...really wanted it you know? So I stole it.â He ran a hand through his hair. âBut really, can you blame a kid? I was a kid. Donât turn me in - honestly the fact that I punched a guy out in high school is worse,â he clapped a hand over his mouth. âOkay yeah I only did that once too - but he hit me first!â
25 - My muse will go skinny dipping with your muse
Zitaoâs face was flushed a violent shade of red as he tried to avoid any and all eye contact with the man known as Kibum. He mustâve done something very bad in a past life to cause something like this to happen. He kept a towel around himself until the very last minute before jumping into the water the moment Kibum had dunked his head under. He curled into a ball shyly, feeling exposed and embarrassed.
Needless to say, it was the last time he would ever agree to a bet like this.
âI usually donât go see new movies,â Zitao confessed, running a hand through his hair. âHonestly though...that one caught my interest and it really wasnât that bad. Maybe the female lead couldâve been cast better but...â He laughed. Listen to him, talking about movies like he knew and understood them. âNah, I didnât really like her character. The rest of it was great though,â
Zitao raised his eyebrows when she cracked her knuckles - how silly, he thought. He didnât even crack his knuckles before a real fight, though he didnât get into many of those. At best, he stretched his fingers out to make them more limber so he could better throw the metal he controlled around. Nimble fingers meant for precise, subtle motions - though he was just as precise with a flick of his wrist as he was with a snap of his fingers.
Shaking her hand in his, he thought about the Street Fighter game in the corner and tilted his head to the side. âThatâs your specialty is it?â he questioned. 2D fighters were one of his favourites too - maybe he would challenge her at her own game. âYouâll find me as TAO if it only lets me have three letters - TAOZI if itâs five,â he replied, settling himself at one end of the game.
âHow noble of you,â he said at her offer to pay. âBut I can pay my own way,â he flipped a coin between his fingers, half of the expertise of the motion coming from the small amount of manipulative power he put into the coin. âOne round sounds fine to me,â Winner getâs status, Zitao thought to himself. Why did he always get caught up in these nerd games? He didnât deny that he enjoyed them though. It was how he let loose - in the nerdiest way possible. Sometimes he laughed at himself when he went home at the end of the day.
âCheating? I wouldnât think of it,â though he didnât see any way of cheating at Tetris. Unless he tried to trip his opponent. But he wasnât that kind of person. He could very well manipulate a ring on someoneâs finger with his pinky making it harder for them to push the buttons, but he wouldnât stoop that low. âI like to win fair and square,â he gave her a serious expression. âI hope youâll give me the same courtesy,â
Zitao smiled a little at that, running his fingers over the cats fur, listening to it purr. âIâve met a few,â he confessed, smiling lightly. âSome people just donât like cats. All they do is complain about fur getting in their food or some such thing. Small price to pay, I think,â the cat buries his face in his palm, asking for more. Zitao was all too happy to oblige.
Though he was surprised that nobody had taken Hyuna to a cat cafe before. That was a little strange - didnât people go to cat cafes when on a date or otherwise? Why wouldnât someone take her to one? Or maybe Zitao was just like that. He was always the kind of person to enjoy taking someone somewhere there was lots to look at, whether it was a park, or a museum or an aquarium...he didnât care where. That way, if they ran out of conversation topics, they could turn to external sources and talk about what they saw around them. It was like a security blanket just as much it was a chance to really get to know someone. That was his motive most of the time. Some people didnât like it - in fact one of the first people he took on a date complained the whole time he wasnât paying enough attention to her. Which was ridiculous. She kept checking her phone every five minutes.
âI have a small dog,â he said, shaking his head as he sipped his tea, wiggling his fingers to occupy the cat temporarily while he drank before setting it down. âHer nameâs Kandy. I picked her out when I was younger but sheâs with my mom now. I couldnât bring her to the apartment Iâm living in while I go to school,â he smiled affectionately at the thought of his little dog. He fished in his hand for his cellphone. âDo you...want to see a picture? Or are you more of a cat person than a dog person?â He smiled a little wider at that statement.

Zitao stared at the woman, frozen in something akin to fear but was more wariness than worry. He gripped the ring tight enough in his palm that he very well couldâve crushed it if he lost control of his power (it was biting into his skin and would leave an imprint when he finally let go). He blinked at her words, realizing she was accusing him of something.
âWhat...?â Zitao said slowly. He began to slowly come to the realization that maybe she knew there had been a demon attack and was now asking him where the demon went. âI donât know,â he managed to get out. This girl was only human, but she carried herself in a way that told him she had confidence in her abilities and in herself. It would do no good for Zitao to even question or challenge her. If it came down to a fight, neither of them would get out unscathed, and that was good reason to avoid one now.
But somehow, Zitao got the feeling that the answer heâd given was not what she wanted to hear. Swallowing, he took a few steps back, putting some distance between him and the mysterious girl, though being mindful of the fact that there was a body back there - somewhere. He turned his head slightly to make sure he knew where it was so he didnât trip - only to find the space it had been was empty. The grass was still pressed down where it had been lying, so he knew he hadnât been imagining it.
âOh,â Zitao said, biting his lip. So thatâs what she had meant. But the fact that the body was gone meant that the demon mustâve been nearby. It probably dragged it off to finish off the leftovers. But the fact that the demon had done it when there were two people nearby either meant it intended on luring them over there, or it just didnât care that it had been found out, or potentially could be. âUhm...â He thought of what to say next, worried that maybe he was being suspected of killing the man that had been here only moments before. âGood question...â He turned his head back towards the woman in an attempt to gather her reaction, wondering if she was a threat just like the demon could be.
There was a small wooded area near one of Seoulâs bigger parks, and Zitao often frequented its trails when he needed to surround himself with nature. He had a favourite tree where he sat to read a book or do his homework. Thatâs where he was headed that day, a small bag slung over his shoulder as he breathed the air around him, listening to the sound of the birds.
As he neared the tree, he came to a stop, his brow creasing at the sight of what looked like...well blood on the path. It hadnât soaked into the ground, but it didnât look fresh either. Zitao didnât know what to think, but if it was blood...then something had happened here. He only hoped it was the blood of some kind of animal.
Pulling one of the rings off his fingers, he clenched it tightly in his fist, prepared to fight if the moment came for it. He slipped into the bushes, carefully stepping off the path towards where the blood seemed to lead, though he was still unsure if it was even a good idea. His heart thudded in his chest as he continued to step through the bushes, twigs snapping noisily beneath his feet. He nearly tripped as he walked, gripping onto a tree to steady himself as he looked down to see what he had walked into --
only to freeze at the sight of what looked like a human leg.
Zitao swallowed, fishing a long stick out of the bush nearby and brushing the twigs and leaves aside, gradually uncovering the half buried body of a man with his chest torn open, his organs strewn around him, and his heart missing.
Feeling bile rise in his throat, Zitao staggered backwards, both glad and regretful that he hadnât eaten his lunch yet. He wouldâve thrown up, but at least he would have something to throw up instead of this dry retching that had suddenly overtaken him. He glanced back at the body, shaking as he slowly realized what mustâve happened here. A demon was the only thing that couldâve done this. And for all he knew, that eater demon could be nearby, watching him, maybe even baiting people.
Zitao was immediately on his guard, gripping the ring even tighter and stepping back through the bushes, trying to get towards the path. He wanted to find out what had done this, but right now, he had no leads. He could check the forest but how could he possibly do it alone?
It was his luck that the moment he stepped closer to the path, he nearly walked into a young woman. He let out a surprised, startled yelp and took a few staggering steps backwards - after all, she could be the demon.
Zitao turned his head at the sound of the shout, seeing a mildly flustered man approach. He was quickly introduced by the actor in a rather flattering way. Zitao flushed brilliantly, bowing his head to hide it. Hyunseung hadnât even seen him run a set yet, and he was already setting his hopes high. Zitao just hoped he wouldnât let him down. He had to be the best he could be.
As the manager left, Hyunseungâs faith in him continued to pour over him. The only people whoâd ever had this much faith in him were his parents. He guessed he should expect such positivity from a fellow angel, but somehow this was something else. And after all, he was right. Destiny and fate worked in unexpected ways. And the fact that heâd been found by the right person and ended up here in front of Hyunseung...maybe this is what heâd been called to do. If he only made it so far, then so be it. But until that moment, Zitao would fight for every moment he could spend working in this area. He might never get another chance.
âThank you,â Zitao said softly, his lips curling into a smile. It only widened as Hyunseung encouraged him towards the set, Zitao felt ready to take on the world, and heâd barely gone a few steps. He listened to Hyunseungâs words and nodded. âI can do that. They briefed me on it already I think. It didnât take very long,â he flushed when he added that last bit on - because the fact that it hadnât taken very long was both bragging about his skill and a testament to simply how easy moving his body in complicated formations was for him. Learning the set had been easy - but now he had to replicate it. His heart was already racing.
Zitao waited for the signal, crouching in the beginning stance of the set heâd been told to do. He waited for the shout before moving his body in the fluid motions heâd trained so long to perfect.

Zitao listened to her words as best as he could, relaxing more as she spoke. It seemed she wasnât uptight in the slightest. He appreciated that. He allowed himself to smile as he listened to her polite request. He watched her pick a table and immediately begin turning her attention towards a cat. So...she did like cats after all. He finally really could relax here.
Picking up the peach juice for her, and a green tea for himself, he headed over to the table and sat down, holding the juice out to her with a smile. âHere,â he wraps his hands around the tea. He feels a cat jump up onto his lap and lets out a surprised sound before reaching down to pet the cat gently.
He fell into a slight silence as he petted the cat who was purring happily in his lap, eventually standing on his haunches to paw at his cheeks. Zitao affectionately cuddled the cat, his face flushing when he remembered he was here with a girl. He really couldnât be more masculine if he tried he supposed...oh well. It was better he be himself instead of pretending he was some macho man who had no feelings for the adorable animal in his lap. And he loved the cat seated in his lap.
âI take it you do like cat cafes,â he said to her cheerfully, smiling brightly. âShe seems to like you,â he nodded towards the cat Hyuna was gently petting.
The man was silent as they made their way upstairs. Zitao tried to search for things to talk about, but decided to remain quiet for now, chewing his lip in thought. He followed him to the door of his apartment, sliding inside and seeing the little girl almost immediately. His lips curled into a smile at the sight of her - he liked children. He let out a soft laugh when she hid behind her father, thinking it was kind of cute, really.
âI can see that,â Zitao said, smiling gently at the father-daughter affection. He watched the little girl dart off as requested by her father and turned back to him as he spoke. He reached out to shake his hand, glad that heâd learned the name of the stranger at last. Barom.
âIâm Huang Zitao,â he shook the manâs hand, smiling warmly. âThanks so much for helping me with my bike. Itâs really the only thing I have to get around,â he wondered what he could do to repay the man for taking time out of his day to help him out - a complete stranger. More than that, a minority in Korea. People usually ignored him or bullied him just because he was Chinese. It was rude, but it was an unfortunate truth.
