Blair + Celia Potter: “you’re hogging the blankets!”
“Celia, no,” Tess said, firmly, in her best mom voice, “It’s too cold.”
“Please, if you are going to sleep in there, take some extra blankets!” This was from Beth, who had already anticipated that Celia would, despite the protests from her sisters, continue to sleep in the sleeping porch.
“You will still freeze,” Blair added, smirking, crossing her arms.
Celia rolled her eyes at her sisters. “Guys, I’m fine. I’ve been fine.”
“It’s going to be even colder tonight,” Tess had warned.
Celia pretended not to hear. She loved her room. She loved that it had windows overlooking the mountains, the forest. She’d hung lights in the windows that lined two of the four walls. It was small (although not to Celia, who had once shared a room of that size with all four of her sisters), but it was comfortable and it was her’s. It was her favorite room in the house and she wasn’t going to let the weather force her into one of the other rooms during the winter months. She just put on a sweatshirt and some socks and she was fine.
It was around 2AM that night when she finally decided that she was not fine.
She hadn’t been able to fall asleep. She was too cold. Even underneath all of the blankets that Beth had dumped on her before she went to bed, she still felt it. If she wasn’t inches away from being an ice cube, she’d go downstairs and sleep on one of the sofas, but it was cold down there, too (although not nearly so cold as it was out on the sleeping porch) and so she swallowed her pride and walked over to Blair’s room; the light underneath the door signaling that she was still awake.
“I’m sleeping in here.” She said.
Blair smirked, “Couldn’t take it, huh?”
“Shut up.”
Blair, still smiling, inclined her head, motioning for Celia to get in. In a few moments, Celia was in bed beside her, snuggling down into the covers.
“Hey, you are hogging the blankets!” Blair said, pulling some away from her.
“I’m just … so cold.”
“You aren’t getting any sympathy from me,” Blair replied, laughing, but she loosened her grip on the covers, allowing for Celia to take some more. “In the morning, you are moving your stuff into the spare room.”
“I know,” Celia replied, relenting. She closed her eyes, then, and quickly fell into a deep sleep, warm and comfortable beside her sister.
