Just as we opened our eyes much later than expected, a winter wonderland was born and our dear friend Frank took his last breath. Etched in the icon of his memory is 10:11 a.m. January 3, 2016. It's a small mark compared to his big impact, but one of the many we'll never forget.

A friend so close to passing that he doesn't smell the same. His voice is strained; His hands quiver. Of course, with face and throat cancer, he doesn't look the same. But under this mask of a weakened man is Frank smiling, joking, laughing, being our favorite carefree dude again. We're waiting for the unwanted because it doesn't seem real. The treatments stop as life keeps going and Frank keeps dancing to his own rhythm.

It's hard to explain missing something you've near forgot. Of all the friends I've lost, the one I miss the most, I blocked out. It's not that I didn't love him — but I was scared of facing the demons we shared. And now there's nothing left but a blank text box, old memories and my sharp tears reminding me of what I never said, never resolved, and never will. What do you do with the memories that only you are left to bear? Those private moments that cemented our bond — they're disintegrating despite all my efforts to hold on. I'm disgusted with my lack of effort to reconnect. Now all that's left is barely hanging on to the moments that keep going, going — gone.
