What if we yelled “At ease!” really loud while BB was sleeping? 😭
LMFAO xD
BB would wake up violently, not to obey the command but because hed suddenly be on full alert. depending on how deeply he was asleep he might instinctively reach for where a weapon would be or immediately orient himself toward the source of the voice.🙀
then once he realizes its you, hed probably be a little irritated bc you just triggered a massive adrenaline dump and he wont be able to fall asleep. xD

Big Bad Dogs - Laly QnA Masterpost Original answers by Laly on Tumblr spar0w TUMBLR X Hi, I’m Near The Wanderer.Welcome to the masterpost
Note: There’s a long Q&A series about BB that someone has already summarized really well. Since it’s too much to include in this masterpost, I’ll just drop the link here. I also plan to save it in my own file, but I figured sharing it here would be more convenient for anyone who just wants quick access to information about BB.
For all the BB's babies, you guys can check out this post from @kolen1209
I really love this game, and I’ve been keeping notes on the content that Laly has shared so far (mostly to help me write better fanfiction). For now, I’m only jotting down details I personally find important or things that might come up later in the story, so this post is very much a work in progress.
I also translate posts from other languages into English. Since I usually translate into my mother tongue first and then into English, there may be small mistakes here and there. If you spot any, please let me know, I’d really appreciate it!

I'm curious about how you plan your game. How do you know what's coming next in the story? I've been making an outline for my visual novel project, but I have no idea how to take the branching paths and multiple choices into consideration — it's crazy! Do you have any tips for an aspiring game developer?
(Love the game,by the way. Cirrus is my beloved, thank you for writing him❤️)
Ooooh my god I love talking about visual novel narrative design, branching narratives and responsive storytelling are two of my favourite things ever. God I need to just sit down and put together a reading list, because there have been some amazing writers on the subject. Not that people have to have engaged with the academia about interactive narratives to write good VNs, but in my experience having specific language about the things you're probably thinking/doing unconsciously already can make your structures more deliberate and focused.
Also I wrote some chunky paragraphs, so my thoughts are under a readmore.
I promise I will discuss our process, since that's what you actually asked for, but first I have to share one of the best blog posts about branching narratives on the internet: Standard Patterns in Choice-Based Games by Sam Kabo Ashwell. There's eight story structures listed there, with 6 diagrams to illustrate what's going on. Just give them a quick glance and look at how a Time Cave story is different from a Gauntlet, and how that's different from a Branch and Bottleneck. All of the structures are valid ways to tell a branching storyline, but they work best when you know what your structure is. Most visual novels are either Gauntlets or Branch and Bottlenecks, so there's a decent chance that yours is somewhere on that spectrum, too.
Now, when it comes to us, I think the best advice we can offer is to think about how your story is going to end, how it starts, and think about the paths you can take to get between those spots. Maybe you've got a plot/route that's fairly linear, but you can flavour the ending depending on the kinds of experiences that happened earlier in the story, then split off for unique epilogues.
It's also worth saying that while being able to make choices is kind of important to visual novels, as a writer you can decide what kind of choices to offer the player. For example, at the moment in Obscura there's only one choice in the whole game where Vesper will say "the market sucks, i'm leaving", because there's only one moment in the game where that would be an in-character choice for Vesper to make. You also won't see us offering the player any choices to do magic, since in Obscuraworld humans cannot perform magic, only use magical objects.
You can use your characters and settings to restrict the possibility space of a branching narrative a lot in a way that doesn't feel restrictive to the player, and you definitely should take advantage of that! If you realise a choice you're offering is going to be a hard branch in a new direction, you're allowed to ask yourself, "Is this choice that suits the story and world?", and if the answer is no, you can cut it, or alter it.
My secret for choices, which really isn't a secret and is in fact just good advice you've probably seen before from someone else, is that players don't need every choice they're made to radically alter the world of the game, they need their choices to be acknowledged by the game.
In Keir's second chapter you're able to make a bet with Griff depending on how you did in Chapter One, and then depending on choices you make in Two, you can win or lose that bet. There is remarkably little new content that needs to be added to make that work (maybe 500 words in total, including all the alternate ways the bet can play out), but the subplot makes the world feel a little more reactive, and it's a way to recognise how you played in both Chapter One and Two.
Admittedly, there's definitely a certain amount of ~vibes to all this. I started getting a feel for adding in choices and acknowledgements the more I wrote, and my eye for those moments is still improving. And to get those vibes, the best I can recommend is just sitting down and starting to write and experiment.
Starbox - Website to Host Indie Games Affected by Censorship on Steam and Itch
Since the poll that I posted has gained overwhelming support, I have put together a new (temporary) indie game hosting website in the past couple of days.
It's not a solution or an alternative to big gaming platforms, it's a simple bare-bones website to help out fellow developers for the time being. We have to remember that the main issue lies with payment processors and until it is resolved, there is not going to be a viable alternative.
About the website:
⭐You can create an account, join and create groups, download games and submit applications for us to upload your games!
⭐I am not able to process payments. This website is intended to host free demos and free games. You can request to link your socials, Patreon, Ko-fi or any game platform where your games are up. You can also request to link a platform where your full game is available if you upload a demo. You don't have to have been directly impacted by Itch and Steam's payment processor's new rules to apply for your game to be uploaded to our site. Similarly to Itch, you can also apply with anything besides games, like board games and such.
⭐️I am a team of one, working on this project out of my own very slim pockets. I will be processing upload applications as quickly as physically possible, but please keep this information in mind when applying.
⭐I will be constantly working and updating the website, but it will likely remain very rudimentary.
⭐While the website is available on mobile, it is not fully functional on it, so I recommend viewing it on desktop.
⭐Since this website is intended to exist temporarily, it highly likely will be deleted at some point in the future once the main issue gets resolved and there's no longer a need for its existence.
You can visit the website at starboxy.com.
Consider also supporting me and this website on Ko-fi.
