Guess who is finally done with the animatic?

Please do check it out, it’s based on the MDZS AD which did such a great job with this scene. It took me a month and more than 100 drawings to complete, I feel like I ran a marathon.

Had fun drawing it, honestly I love this extra and the AD so much I would actually want to make a scene where wangxian throws rings on the market, but I don’t think I’ll manage to do it rn 🤣

Then Wei Wuxian realizes Lan Wangji actually means to cook for him, and after some banter, Lan Wangji admits he already has cooked for Wei Wuxian before. Wei Wuxian is overwhelmed with joy and kisses Lan Wangji, who gets Wei Wuxian to admit that he's burned pots before. Lan Wangji promises to cook again for Wei Wuxian, who thanks him in advance. End VD]

Summary: Patience is a bitter plant that bears sweet fruit. Lan Wangji doesn't know why Wei Wuxian is so interested in traveling to a city at the very edge of the civilized world. After Yunping, what secrets could possibly be left? But the desert remembers many things. Kay's comments: I finally had the time to dive into this story and it's as good as I hoped! Kryal is such a master at Wangxian characterization and the slow unravelling of the story was wonderful; I was hooked from the beginning, wondering where it would go and I loved the ending. I loved the mystery of it and the world-building and exploring new parts of the world. The end-notes were once again highly entertaining and you can really see that the world-building is a passion project. Excerpt: “Waaaait.” Grinning, he skipped ahead a few steps and turned slightly to peer up into Lan Wangji’s eyes. “Lan Zhan!” he exclaimed, mock-shocked. “Do you mean to tell me that you always stay at that inn because the proprietor doesn’t like you?” “…Mn.” That was unmistakably sheepishness. Wei Wuxian laughed, swinging their joined hands back and forth between them like a child as they walked. “That poor woman! Although… it still seems odd. I can’t imagine why someone would dislike you so much, especially if she only knew stories about you to begin with.”

Wei Ying scrambles from his desk and over to the tank, presses his face right against the glass. “Was Wen Ning right?” he whispers. His breath fogs the glass. “Are you our new cephalopod overlords?” Once again, the little blue and white octopus taps twice against the glass. Wei Ying goggles. Then it taps a sequence against the glass. But Wei Ying has worked on enough expedition ships to know Morse code, or at least the most important code of all—SOS. This little octopus needs help.

Kay's comments: This story is a remix of celerydragon's story "all wrapped up in you (cold arms so warm)", which I loved, and I love this story as well! Here we have marine biologist Wei Ying who, unbeknownst to him, ended up with his high school crush turned octopus Lan Zhan in his lab. There's pining, there's monsterfucking and human fucking - what's not to love? Also features intern Mo Xuanyu, who figures out that the answer to bring Lan Zhan back into his human form is obviously a true love's kiss. Just brilliant.

Before I started writing in earnest, I did not understand how much writing was going to eat into my fic reading time. We joke about having too many tabs open, but I have a different problem: the amount of tabs I have open on new fics is way smaller than it used to be. My ao3 wrapped would be a sad affair. Unless I’ve subscribed to an author or come across something on my dash, I basically don’t see it

Which has really driven home for me how much fandom cannot just be creators. You have to have people who want to read fic and meta discussions and joke posts. You have to have people who want to look at art and gifs. It has to be mutual.

Community thrives on flow. You have to have that movement of people sharing things with each other for a community to exist
