The study

Thanks to a study conducted by researchers at the University of Singapore, led by Yuin-Han Loh, published on medRxiv, the site hosting the work awaiting screening by the scientific community, the gateway to the new coronavirus was discovered through the eyes. It is a group of corneal and conjunctiva cells that have a high concentration of Ace2, the receptor used by the virus to enter human cells. The discovery of the Ace2 receptor on some cells of the eye shows what has long been suspected that the virus is able to enter the human body through direct or indirect contact with the mucous membranes of the eye and is able to infect the cells of the conjunctiva.
