☞ Unidentified woman passes alongside her 7 m/o fetus due to indeterminate drug usage. The age of the woman in question is unclear (or at the very least unknown to me) as well as the drug in question. It’s unclear whether this was the result of prescription drugs or illicit substance abuse.
Fetal examination revealed several severe congenital abnormalities—including the absence of both lungs, kidneys, defected forelimbs, and clubbed feet. The absence of kidneys would also imply critically low levels of amniotic fluids, effectively inhibiting the development of its lungs.
A fetus is unable to produce urine without its kidneys, which is what primarily makes up the amniotic fluid. Without these fluids, the lungs can’t properly develop. The fetus regularly breathes the fluid in and out, physically stretching and stimulating developing airways. Without the fluid to “breathe”, this process does not occur, preventing the lungs from developing to a functional capacity.
Interestingly enough, such abnormalities easily could’ve been due to a genetic or sporadic mutation, as opposed to the result of prescription/illicit drugs. In any case, this fetus sadly wouldn’t have been able to survive outside of its mother’s womb, even in the event that she (the mother) survived.
I’ve just stumbled across a super interesting post-mortem fetal examination. More on that soon

☞ Death by malnutrition (fatal starvation) in a case of anorexia nervosa. This cadaver is frighteningly unique due to her notable lack of fat and muscle tissue.
☞ These are laparoscopic images of a human ovum (egg) emerging from an ovary. Captured accidentally during a hysterectomy examination, these are the clearest pictures of human ovulation to date.
The human ovum is one of the largest cells in the body. Ovulation was originally thought to be a quick process, where eggs would “burst” out of the ovary. Instead, it took over 15 minutes for the ovary to fully release the egg, better described as a “secretion” rather than an explosion.
