Korra stood on the shimmering, mist-covered platform deep in the Spirit World, arms crossed and eyebrow raised at the tiny orange otter-weasel spirit bouncing excitedly in front of her.
"Relax, toots! I got this," Daxter declared. "One little tweak and you’ll have a physique that'll make every spirit in this realm weak in the knees. Just hold still and watch the master work!"
Before Korra could protest, the two-foot-tall otter-weasel spirit flung sparkling orange energy at her with a theatrical flourish. "Bam! Prepare to be amazified!"
A rush of spiritual energy hit Korra like a tidal wave. Hundreds of pounds of dense blubber billowed within her torso in an instant, stretching her body upward to twice her height. As this mass settled, her arms stretched and widened, her hands becoming huge flippers with flat, clawed fingers. Her hair surged outward into a thick mane that cascaded over her shoulders and chest. Her ponytail and side strands held on, though her trusty hair ties now looked comically small, if they were at all visible. Capping off this metamorphosis was the broadening of her face, with an impressive pair of tusks jutting out of her mouth.
When the light faded, Korra looked down at the landscape and her tiny companion from her newly towering perspective, then glanced down at herself in stunned silence.
Her once-toned midsection was now a heavy, rounded barrel that wobbled slightly as she shifted her weight. Her light blue tunic had stretched impressively with her new size, the fabric somehow holding together without tearing, though it now fit snugly over her powerful chest and round abdomen. Her brown wrap skirt and blue trousers had similarly adapted, stretched taut but intact.
She took an experimental step. Her boot slammed loudly against the ground. The ballast in her gut shifted, nearly throwing her off balance for a second. Korra windmilled her large, flipper-fingered hands and caught herself with a grunt. "Gah! Daxter, what the-?!" she growled; her voice came out deeper and had a rumbling undertone like a lion-walrus bellow. She glared down at the tiny spirit. "You call this a warrior's physique?! I feel like I swallowed a whole iceberg!"
"Okay… that’s not exactly what I had in mind," Daxter admitted, rubbing his paws together. "I was going for something more like 'ripped warrior goddess,' but 'giant lion-walrus chick' works too! You're still smokin' hot, by the way."
Korra’s frustration melted into a loud, booming laugh despite herself. "You little pest… this is ridiculous!" She tested a shiko, adapting to her extra weight with that same stubborn persistence she once used to master airbending. She slammed her foot down, sending a shockwave through the platform. "But… okay, I do feel strong. Really strong."
A competitive glint lit Korra's eyes. She threw her head back and let out a deep, earth-shaking ROOOAAAR-BELLOW that echoed across the misty landscape. Daxter covered his ears dramatically. "Yeesh! Warn a guy before you break the sound barrier!"
She turned toward the towering opponent waiting across the misty dohyo, a great, stony badger-mole-like entity known for its unbeatable bulk. Korra planted her feet wide, lowered her center of gravity (which was now very low and stable thanks to all that blubber), and grinned fiercely, her impressive mane fluffing up. "Alright, rock-guy! Let’s see if you can handle an Avatar who’s packing this much power!" She slapped her round belly once for emphasis.
Daxter hopped onto a nearby rock to get a better view. "Yeah! Go get ‘em, big mama! Show that overgrown pebble what happens when you mess with the Avatar and Orange Lightning!"
Even in this weird form, Korra was ready to charge headfirst into the challenge in front of her. She lumbered forward, mane swaying and a wolfish grin on her face. This was going to be fun.
