Wednesday from Wednesday is an autistic coded character for a lot of fans but I don’t think Wednesday is autistic representation because she was not written in the show to be autistic or said by the writers to be autistic.

Norma from Dead End Paranormal Park is a canonically autistic character and I think Norma is autistic representation because she is written in the show to be autistic and is based off the creator’s experience of being autistic.

People who want to get rid of and entirely erase the support needs terms aren't well educated on how these terms help everyone with autism, regardless of the support needs that they have, and this needs to be fixed.

Because i have seen a post of a person on Instagram falsely claiming to be HSN while being able to drive, do stuff that people with HSN autism can't do or need substantial, and by that i mean VERY SUBSTANTIAL, support in order to do so. Driving is something that many HSN autistics can't do and that they would need someone else to drive them places, for example. I am MSN and while i am less impaired by those with HSN autism are, i don't think i would be able to drive at all, never mind safely, due to my autism. Things like GPS services are not enough to help me be able to drive, which is the example that the creator that i am talking about used as an example for why she thinks she has high support needs.

But that's not the main issue here, the main issue that i want to address using this post is that the same creator wants to get rid of support needs terms entirely. She doesn't want people to describe themselves as having, low, medium or high support needs. And she doesn't understand that the harm doing this can cause to those who desperately need to use these terms in order to get the supports and services required for them, especially in the US. In internet spaces, it's far easier for people to describe their complex needs in amounts such as low, medium and high, then it is for them the describe every single thing that they need help with on average. Plus, doing that in casual spaces such as on the online autism community is not needed as well as too much information. Labels like low, medium and high describe their needs in a better and more safer, easier way.

Getting rid of this makes things so much harder for people, and everyone on the autism spectrum. It can be doubly harder for people in real life, in situations where services truly need to know their needs so they can best support the person. Without the use of autism levels and support needs labels, that can make it that much harder and longer for people to describe, and for people with autism, communication is a known struggle and a symptom of having autism, plus the fact that some autistics also struggle with self awareness as well too. While i understand that this creator has no real power to change it how we see things, the fact that she is suggesting it anyway is dangerous in and out of itself because there are people with real authority out there who may or may not agree with her take.
