Surprise good news for a Sunday! Dungeons And Dragons And Ponies? It looks like it! Are you a fan of DnD? Then this’ll really be a set for you. But, even if you’re not, it’s still really interesting to see. You get 5 ponies and a dice. Their clothes are cloth, and their accessories seem painted on (like a thief has a dagger/the boots etc) as well as physical things like an instrument and a shield. So, they’re looking out for design and including 3 ways of accessorizing them. The box art is a little weird, you’ve got dog-eye creeping in on one side and the black one doesn’t have exactly G1 face but it’s nothing terrible by any means. The sculpts! It looks like they took the earlier criticism to heart and actually acted on it! Somebody must have rolled a 20! As you remember, their earlier attempt at “G1 nostalgia mini figures” had odd head shapes (lumpy) cheap looking ‘sticker eyes’ without any face texture & were problematic/cheap looking in other ways as well. This prevented big hype upon their reveal/release. These use molded hair in G1-art-look styles so that’s going to automatically clear up ‘ball head’, and eliminate awful cheap hair. The eyes still appear to be flat/textureless which is a bit sad, if they were going to do all new molds anyway why not add eye texture but it’s not the hugest deal in a mini figure like this. The color They went with more earth tones yet still some fantasy, which for DnD is just fine. It seems fitting/not out of place. There’s 2 poses for the set of 5, which, ok they’re just starting out and it’s mini-figs so ok. But, how well will this do? How many DnD players love 80s ponies? How many G1 fans play DnD? What is the overlap like that would create (or not) demand? I have no actual idea but I’ll get this set if it is reasonably priced. (I don’t want any kind of 50 bucks for 5 tiny figures no ripoffs please) What do you think?
